The proliferation of the wireless communication data and network architectures are intercalating difficulty to find an optimal path due to high computational time and memory constraints. Most of the conventional Software Defined Networks (SDN) are independent of dynamic path planning parameters and network topology due to change in data size and communication range. Also, these models are not efficient in large scale systems due to lack of node trustiness and path planning process. In order to overcome these dynamic problems in software defined networks, a hybrid dynamic trust probability based path planning model is proposed in this paper to make it suitable for large scale networks. In this model, a hybrid Cluster based Ant Colony Optimization (C-ACO) approach is integrated with node trustiness to investigate best possible communication path in the SDN. Through simulations it is observed that the proposed scheme for SDN yields better efficiency than the traditional meta heuristic approaches. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The article presents preliminary results of experimental research on an exemplary steel machine tool body support beam unfilled and filled with polymer concrete and from homogeneous polymer concrete. The scope of the research involved an attempt to determine the static properties of the beam depending on its design. The tests were carried out for a very small range of forces due to the danger of damage to beams made of polymer concrete alone. The same test conditions were used for all types of beams. As a result of the tests, the deflection characteristics of a double-sided beam were obtained. During the research, the configuration of the measuring apparatus and dedicated software for testing and analysing the results were developed. An induction displacement sensor with measurement accuracy up to 0.5 μm and a strain gauge force sensor with an accuracy of 0.2 N was used in the station. The force actuator was an electrodynamic inductor controlled by a microprocessor system controlling the given force. Each measurement was repeated ten times. The test results were used to determine parameters such as the stiffness coefficient. Due to the fact that the beams were not symmetrical, the tests were carried out for the beam in two directions. The obtained characteristics allowed the conclusions about the comparison of the used beams and they are a supplement to the research conducted by the authors regarding their dynamic properties. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The noise, sound pollution, and harshness are steadily increasing alarmingly from various vehicles such as lorries, vans, cars, and buses. It is considered a significant concern in our modern life due to the long-term harmful effect on human health. The excessive vehicular noise and sound pollution mainly affecting in specific areas of smart cities such as hospitals, educational institutes, various private/public organizations. As a result, people are suffering from neurocognitive problems. Therefore, controlling the sound pollution from vehicles are incredibly essential to mitigate health issues globally. However, minimal research was conducted by monitoring vehicular noise intensity in a smart city area using smart, reliable, and sophisticated technologies such as the internet of things (IoT) to mitigate these issues. This paper presents an enhanced intelligent IoT-enabled vehicular noise intensity monitoring system to protect the city dweller’s health by reducing sound pollution in the smart city. We are planned to propose an architectural framework using noise intensity measuring sensors, 360° Camera, 360° LIDAR, GPS (Global Positioning System) in the vehicle with IoT technology for monitoring individual vehicles and their nearby vehicles over the smart city. The proposed system can monitor real-timely vehicular noises and notify designated stakeholders (i.e., vehicle owner, city authority) promptly and stored in the cloud with valid proofs. The proposed system helps to develop an ideal vehicular noise monitoring system over the smart cities and the widespread significance of mitigating health problems that relate to sound pollution and increase public awareness. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Neuropsychological rehabilitation is a high complexity process that involves returning the functionality lost to a patient with acquired brain damage. In this context, technological development provides several possibilities for the stimulation of various brain functions involved in cognitive processing and behavioral regulation of a patient. For this reason, these types of treatments, including technological input, allow the patient to improve their levels of motivation and performance of neuropsychological rehabilitation activities. This article reviews some technological devices that provide improvements in the context of neuropsychology for the care of patients with acquired brain damage.

The World Health Organization reveals that over one billion persons worldwide living with some disability. On the other hand, video conferencing applications have become massively popular in our daily lives, from the domestic to the professional, even for the management of public services. Therefore, the use of video conferencing systems by any person, especially the elderly, with a disability or little training, is essential. Furthermore, not all videoconferencing applications comply with accessibility standards. In this study, the six most used videoconferencing systems were selected to evaluate compliance with accessibility guidelines, related to the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and 2.2. This study has limitations, depending on the experience of the evaluators in accessibility. This study can serve as a guide for expert and non-expert users in the selection of accessible applications.

The use of applications with Machine Learning (ML) is increasingly frequent and their daily use demands more capacity for processing information in real-time. Many devices deploy their infrastructure in Cloud computing environments, where latency and network partitions are the main challenges they must face. However, in environments such as Dew computing, these problems are mitigated since the information processing is carried out directly on the data source, so an Internet connection is not necessary. This article evaluates the performance of the Nvidia Jetson Nano platform, under a Dew computing approach, with an application that uses ML to solve a problem of identification and counting of land vehicles, in real-time, in the city of Quito, Ecuador. Two types of experiments were conducted, the first experiment aimed to evaluate the use of processing resources (CPU and GPU), device temperature, power consumption, and the amount of RAM used in the ML task. The second experiment sought to evaluate the effectiveness of the platform combined with OpenDataCam.

Wearable technology has grown tremendously throughout the time and is well known in transmitting or receiving the data for the remote monitoring in the telehealth applications. However, the existing wearable technology including the textile-antennas have limitation due to the high cost material, challenging fabrication, metal fatigue, porous and produce high loss. To address this issue, in this research, a low cost method using thermal-print of clothes iron is proposed. A low cost material of conductive carbon is used where no sintering or fabrication process is needed while provide the affordable fabrication cost. The textile antenna had return loss, S11 of −31.6 dB, the gain of 4.1 dB, the bandwidth of 6.9%, while the directivity was 3.812 dB at 5.8 GHz. The antenna prototype provides a convenient and unobtrusive communication subject to flexing and bending. In the prototype module testing, the transceiver antenna can transmit and receive the signal effectively up till 3 m’ coverage. Moreover, after repeated flexing, the surface and RF performance of the textile antenna did not degrade, so it can be a suitable device in the future generations, especially in indoor wireless remote monitoring. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The paper describes a novel project aimed at developing the concept and technique of cyber safety system of the education process' participants in the digital learning environment (integration of human and cyber-physical systems approach). A striking feature of the proposed approach lies in its notable difference from the one and focus on a human in the network's cybersecurity loop rather than technical aspects or human personal data. Besides, it discusses the method and way of conducting experimental studies.

In order to contribute to the Inclusive Education of Children with Special Needs in the Arts Education Programmes of Music in Portugal, an Action-Research project was started in 2018. With this work we intend to characterize the child that originated the study and to relate their characterization with studies obtained in the literature review, whose theme is the inclusion of children with Special Needs in music teaching. The studies considered highlighted some barriers and point out some facilitators to an effective inclusion. We also sought authors to help us reflect on the learning processes of the child, their development, the specific relationship between adult and child (scaffolding) and social interactions in the context in which they live. The analysis of "Vygotsky’s Cognitive Development Theory" and "Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory of Human Development" presented us with this possibility. Besides the literature review, nine interviews were carried out, considering the mother and the different education and health professionals who work with the child. All information compiled was organised and studied through content analysis supported by Computer-assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software on the webQDA platform. The results highlight the importance of using assistive technology, music software, adapted musical instruments, etc., in the learning of music, as we found in the literature. They also point out the need for individualised support (people), the need to promote the skills of the professionals working with the child, the accessibility of spaces and the adaptations of programmes.
