The mathematics used in handling logarithmic kinetic data often involves unnecessary steps. Determination of activation volume (V) and pressure resistance (z) often becomes laborious. In this paper we illustrate the simplest way to determine activation volume and pressure resistance needed for evaluating high pressure processing de foods. Activation volume and pressure resistance are determined in one step by linear fit with least squares on computers. Four new equations were proposed for the prediction of the activation volume and pressure resistance in a single step in the case of evaluation of processes of food with high pressure.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. Melanoma is a malign type of skin cancer responsible for several deaths in the world. An early diagnosis increases the probability of cure. Dermatoscopy is one of the procedures for such diagnosis. Using dermatoscopy, it is possible to recognize skin structures that are not visible to the human sight. The dermatoscope zooms in images for a more precise diagnostic. Although less efficient than the analysis of experts, it is possible to find several proposals for the automatic classification of skin lesions in the literature, some of them using image characteristics of shape, colour, and texture. Our proposal aims at supporting doctors using dermatoscopy for the automatic classification of skin lesions. In our experiments, we used 21 classification algorithms with different inducing paradigms. The best results were obtained using the FuzzyDT algorithm, based on a set of image characteristics related to shape, colour, and texture. One of the main contributions of this proposal, is the characteristic selection procedure using FuzzyDT, which obtained high accuracy, as well as a dataset of preprocessed cancer skin images. The article is devoted to developing methods of dynamic correction of signals registered at the output of a non-linear measuring transducer for the purpose to recover its input signal. Dynamic correction leads to decreased inertia/time response of the measuring transducer and smoothes its non-linearity. Signal recovery problem is resolved based on the non-linear model of measuring transducer as a first kind, second degree polynomial Volterra integral equation. As the problem is ill-posed, the model regularization method is used. The article offers a differential regularization operator transforming the input polynomial integral equation into a polynomial integro-differential equation. For numerical realization of the given models’ type an algorithm based on the difference and quadrature methods is offered. The key problem of limited modelling time when using the kernel, given by the tabular method, is resolved by applying a procedure of restarting of the calculation process with offset of the time interval the integral equation kernel defined on. To resolve the issue of significant short-period errors in calculations after the restart of the calculation process, we offer a method for obtaining solution from two parallel computing processes with tabular kernels offset in time at a half of the time interval they are defined on. A feature of integral models is their resistance to high-frequency interference, which are present in real engineering systems. The obtained results can be used in dynamic correction devices of measuring transducers of automatic control and measurement systems. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The machine learning algorithms are becoming more potential in artificial intelligence. In order to evaluate network security and performance, the classification of network is very much essential. In recent decades, various software or products produce various network traffic with different parameter types and with different service as per necessity. Thereby, classification of the network traffic plays a major role to increase the performance of a network management. The traffic classification has become more vital study range especially with the evolution of machine learning techniques. Here, we considered few machine learning techniques like the support vector machine, random forest classifier, and multilayer perceptron which are used to classify the network traffic. We considered various parameters like Telnet, Ping, and Voice traffic flows simulated by distributed Internet traffic generator tool. Each host in the network was connected through an overlay network to an Open vSwitch (OVS). The OVS was connected to a Ryu controller which collected basic flow statistics between hosts. These statistics were then parsed by a Python traffic classification script which periodically output the learned traffic labels of each flow. After investigating different classification techniques, we found that multilayer perceptron was found to work much better than other classifiers techniques. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper reports the fourth phase of an ongoing research connecting two researchers from different areas of expertise - Architecture and Design - and more specifically CIM (City Information Modeling) software and design ethics. This experiment resorts to the concept of the Trojan Horse to develop a common project. In this phase, the experiment is designed to evaluate the consistency of the results obtained in the previous phases when replicability is increased. The experiment extends the previous method by increasing the repetition factor by the value of one and tests whether the procedures result in the same outcomes and without any additional noise. The ultimate goal is to improve the level of evidence to which design intruders may enter CIM environments without distorting simulation results. Computer analysis can help stop or at least mitigate human failures as methods and analysis can be speeded up immensely. However, better tools are required to better address the challenges posed by the need to have more rigorous and attentive analysis. This research stems from the conversation between CIM and Design using design thinking and design methods as a means for searching for better knowledge integration. Until now, CIM systems have been combining human action with algorithmic based design in the conviction that design thinking requires human interaction to warrant a rational (while creative) workflow, but will it be robust enough to detect its inner fragilities without the direct intervention of the human actor? Results until now seem to point that design thinking still requires some level of human dialog with the system reinforcing the claim that AI is still too artificial and perhaps not so intelligent. Future work will provide possible answers to this problem - a hypothesis is given for the fifth phase.

This paper presents the development of a learning-teaching methodology, based on the application of virtual and augmented reality. Its aim is to develop a teaching system based on immersive technologies containing 3D virtual environments. Lack of specialized workspace can be partially conciliated with the use of simulators for different areas of knowledge. Technical contributions of researchers in engineering areas are considered. The quality of the methodological design is verified through virtual laboratory sessions in simulated environments. Benefits of having these spaces include greater ease of access to laboratories when student populations are numerous, relieve in conducting controlled experiments without fear of experiencing equipment failures. For the execution of this work, bibliographic search on immersive methodologies applied to learning has been done. Works that contribute to virtual education, enhanced by the application of augmented reality, were selected. The second step has been the construction of a proposal of the teaching methodology for virtualized learning.

Machine Learning systems are generally thought of as fully automatic. However, in recent years, interactive systems in which Human experts actively contribute towards the learning process have shown improved performance when compared to fully automated ones. This may be so in scenarios of Big Data, scenarios in which the input is a data stream, or when there is concept drift. In this paper we present a system for supporting auditors in the task of financial fraud detection. The system is interactive in the sense that the auditors can provide feedback regarding the instances of the data they use, or even suggest new variables. This feedback is incorporated into newly trained Machine Learning models which improve over time. In this paper we show that the order by which instances are evaluated by the auditors, and their feedback incorporated, influences the evolution of the performance of the system over time. The goal of this paper is to study of different instance selection strategies for Human evaluation and feedback can improve the learning speed. This information can then be used by the system to determine, at each moment, which instances would improve the system the most, so that these can be suggested to the users for validation. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Metaheuristics have been widely used to solve NP-hard problems, with excellent results. Among all NP-hard problems, the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) is potentially the most studied one. In this work, a variation of the TSP is considered;the main differences being, edges may have positive or negative costs and the objective is to return a Hamiltonian cycle with cost as close as possible to zero. This variation is called the balanced TSP (BTSP). To tackle this new problem, we present an adaptive variant of the iterated local search metaheuristic featuring also random restart. This algorithm was tested on the MESS2018 metaheuristic competition and achieved notable results, scoring the 5th position overall. In this paper, we detail all the components of the algorithm itself and present the best solutions identified. Even though this metaheuristic was tailored for the BTSP, with small modifications its structure can be applied to virtually any NP-hard problem. In particular, we introduce the uneven reward-and-punishment rule which is a powerful tool, applicable in many contexts where fast responses to dynamic changes are crucial. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

In an educational environment, classifying the cognitive aspect of students is critical. It is because an accurate classification is needed by a lecturer to take the right decision for enhancing a better educational environment. To the best of our knowledge, there is no previous research that focuses on this classification process. In this paper, we propose discretization and feature selection methods before the classification. For this purpose, we adopt the equal frequency for the discretization whose result is evaluated by using logistic regression with two regularizations: lasso and ridge. The experimental result shows that four-intervals on the ridge achieve the highest accuracy. It is to be the base to determine the level of the student’s performance: excellent, good, fair, and poor. Next, we remove unnecessary features, by using the Gain Ratio and Gini Index. Also, we build classifiers to evaluate our proposed methods by using k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN), Neural Network (NN), and CN2 Rule Induction. The experimental result indicates that both discretization and feature selection can enhance the performance of the classification process. Concerning the accuracy level, there is an increase of about 35%, 2.14%, and 3.8% on average of k-NN, NN, and CN2 Rule Induction respectively, from those with original features. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The industrial assembly of large equipment is usually organized as site assembly, requires a high degree of manual work. Humans, with their cognitive skills and abilities, still carry out a significant share of manual and cognitive tasks in this context. For process-efficient as well as human-centered design of workplaces, anthropometric characteristics and needs of the employees have to be considered. These specific attributes differ from human to human and require new adaptation concepts for workstations. In this paper, the individualization dimensions of site assembly are specified and extended with the focus on user-adaptive design. In addition, adaptive concepts for the implementation of individual configuration options, such as capturing of human characteristics and adaptive execution of the adjustment, are identified and presented in an extended taxonomy.
