According to literature review, the number of studies focusing on Computer-Assisted Qualitative-Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) as well as on clear descriptions of how these tools can be used is still scarce. Besides this, despite the recognition of content analysis for its appropriateness to qualitative studies, several authors refer to ambiguity problems, mostly related to the subjectivity of the coding process, which may interfere with the assurance of the validity criteria of stability, reproducibility and accuracy. This study is predominately methodological and focuses on a segment of the results of a multiple case study, involving five peer learning projects, implemented in five Portuguese educational institutions;and on the reflection on the role of content analysis, as the chosen data analysis technique, and the support of qualitative analysis software WebQDA, particularly regarding the assurance of the validity criteria of reproducibility and accuracy. By means of a semi-structured interview and a survey by questionnaire, this study aims at assessing teachers and peer teacher students’ perceptions of motivations to integrate the projects as well as of the contributions resulting from participation, regarding benefits and major challenges;and analyse the role of content analysis, supported by software WebQDA, in identifying these teachers and peer teacher students’ convergent/divergent perceptions. Results show there is clear convergence of teachers and peer teacher students’ perceptions regarding the three variables assessed, particularly as for participation benefits. It is also evident that teachers and peer teacher students’ perceptions diverge in matters related to specificities of the role assumed in the projects. The contribution of software WebQDA was particularly significant regarding the transparency, structure and systematization facilitated. Financial institutions suffer from the risk of losing money from bad customers, specifically banking sectors, where the risk of losing money is higher, due to bad loans. This causes an economic slowdown of the nation. The banking industry has a significant action of lending cash to individuals who are needing cash. In order to payback, the principal borrowed from the depositor bank collects the interest made by the principal borrowers. Credit risk investigation is turning into a significant field in financial risk management. Many credit risk analysis strategies are utilized for the assessment of credit risk of the client dataset. In this paper, we designed a model which takes loan data of the customers who applied for a loan from a bank and predicted to give the credit of the client or reject the utilization of the client. This work attempts to present the process and the results of the content analysis of 27 Bologna Reform Implementation Reports of 8 Portuguese Higher Education Institutions (PHEI) aiming the identification of procedural standards in the adequacy of the Institutions to the various lines of action established by the Bologna’s political-educational Reform and the knowledge of the extent of the adequacy they carried out. Accordingly, the work assumes the following sectioned structure: 1) the objectives set for the study and for the analysis;2) the theoretical framework which supported the analysis;3) the methodological design of the analytical project;4) The main evidences found. Based on the assumptions of the humanistic-interpretative methodology and theoretically indebted to Laurence Bardin’s theoretical conceptualization on the principles and procedural phases involved in content analysis, this work additionally highlighted the advances of the computer-assisted qualitative data analysis movement (CAQDAS) and had NVivo 10.0 software to aid the analysis. The partial results show common trends or patterns and subtle differences in the adequacy undertaken by the various PHEI and in the various teaching subsystems, denoting the focus of their narratives on the impacts experienced in the teaching-learning processes, and the changes which were introduced in their institutional structures. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The study presented in this article is the outcome of an investigation that collects and analyses the results obtained from the students’ responses after finishing a course on Personal Software Process (PSP). The objective of the course is for future Computer Engineers to learn and improve the software construction process. When they finished the course, a short questionnaire was conducted to find out their perception of how it was carried out and the answers were analysed from two different points of views. From a quantitative point of view, the answers were analysed to find out if the course is truly interesting for the students;from a qualitative point of view, the responses were analysed to extract the positive and negative aspects and the improvements that the students perceive about the course. As conclusions, it must be indicated that the results obtained have allowed us to contrast our results with other studies previously carried out by other authors, and it has also allowed us to make proposals for improvements for new courses to be carried out in the future. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Interface Design of Transport Mobile Commerce APP: A Case Study of Taiwan Railway 1

Mobile Apps have emerged in the past ten years. Transportation Apps have emerged accordingly, and are no longer restricted to purchase tickets on-site. The purpose of this study is to explore the user’s needs for the Taiwan Railway App, and based on the user’s needs, revise and design the Taiwan Railway App interface to increase intuition. This study analyzes and compares the three existing Taiwan Railway Apps, using observation methods, semi-structured interviews, and questionnaires to summarize the needs of the participants: 1) The overall satisfaction of the Taiwan Railway Reservation (80%) is the highest, followed by Taiwan Railways e-booking (20%), Taiwan Railway Assistant is the lowest (0%);2) refer to the participant’s suggestions to modify the new APP, the items are as follows: 1) Enlarge the booking block;2) change the small icon Simplify re-composition;3) add one-way and round-trip ticket interface;4) set the booking button after selecting the booking column;and 5) separate the date and time menu. After completing the pre-testing, using the Taiwan Railway Reservation as the prototype, the App interface was revised and the new App Prototype was made. After the test, it can be found that users have become more intuitive in using the interface and the average score has improved. Based on the above analysis results, a traffic mobile business App was designed and produced, and user tests were conducted. The results are consistent with the original expectations and more intuitive to use. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Tensor Multi-linear MMSE Estimation Using the Einstein Product 1

Tensors are multi-way arrays which are natural generalization of vectors and matrices to higher orders, and can be used to represent data and signals depending on a multitude of indices. Hence they are heavily used in various disciplines including signal processing, multi-domain communications, machine learning and Big Data. This paper introduces a tensor framework for multi-linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimation using the Einstein Product. The classical notion of linear MMSE estimator for vectors has been extended to tensor case leading to the notion of multi-linear MMSE estimation. A numerical approach for approximating tensor inversion based on Newton Method is also presented, and its use for computing the proposed multi-linear MMSE estimator is considered. A comparison with the existing multi-dimensional filtering using the Tucker product which relies on n-mode unfolding of tensors is also presented. An application of the tensor based estimation in a multiple antenna Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO OFDM) system is considered where the tensor formulation allows a convenient treatment of inter-carrier interference, leading to a tensor equalizer which outperforms the per sub-carrier equalizer more commonly used for MIMO OFDM. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Continuous monitoring of users' comfort level in automated driving could allow for optimizing human-automation teaming in this domain. Physiological parameters such as heart rate, eye blink frequency and pupil diameter are promising potential indicators for discomfort. In a driving simulator study, 20 participants experienced three automated close approach situations to a truck driving ahead and could report discomfort continuously by a handset control. Heart rate was measured by a smartband, and eye related parameters by eye tracking glasses. Two mathematical models, a logistic regression model and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model, were compared for estimating discomfort by combing these physiological parameters. Both models showed similar prediction performance with slightly better prediction accuracy for the logistic model, even if the number of parameters (model complexity) contained in the logistic model was far less than in the SVM model.

Today, smart environments require attention from the network level for connecting devices to the application level for adapting their behavior to continuously changing environmental conditions. Just as a smartphone can choose between using mobile internet or a WLAN connection, IoT applications that manage smart environments must know how to establish relationships among heterogeneous devices. However, establishing connections and relationships between devices may require many manual actions from both the application developer and the user. In this paper, we propose two new layers that can make programming IoT applications more intuitive and convenient for the software developers and enable them to leverage the various connectivity types. These new layers, Social Layer and Situational Context Layer, are crosscutting with IoT-A layers, complement many of the existing IoT architectures and, in addition, to take advance of the ever-growing set of devices and their resources around the user in their applications easily. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Selected Problems of the Numerical Capacity Assessment for Floating systems 1

Modular floating systems are structures used both for the army and the civilian population needs. They enable construction of temporary water crossings, for example, in place of permanent out of service bridges or objects renovated due to mechanical and other damages. Special features of this type structures include the possibility of using them regardless of the depth and terrain conditions of the water crossings. The requirements currently set for such structures force their modernization as well as search for innovative solutions. They should allow easy and quick assembly-disassembly of the structure, and have a low weight and dimensions to facilitate transport as well as minimize storage space. These requirements are met by a pontoon construction based on an innovative cassette designed in Poland (Military University of Technology). A single cassette contains a high-strength elastic coating pontoon which, after filling with air, allows obtaining the regulation of buoyancy force, appropriate depending on the type of water crossings. The paper deals with testing the load capacity of a pontoon bridge composed of repetitive segments-cassettes with adjustable immersion. Numerical models of a single floating cassette and a group of connected cassettes constituting ferries or sections of a pontoon bridge are also presented in the paper. The methodology for load capacity tests and selected test results of such floating objects are discussed. Multibody numerical methods and FEM (Finite Element Method) are used for dynamic and static analysis of multi-component floating systems. Selected field tests and laboratory stand tests conducted with the use of the strength machine are applied to validate the various type of numerical models. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
