A mobile application-based service providing table-based information on the reduced emission amounts of greenhouse gases by riding the escooter was proposed to increase user awareness of air quality and purchase intention towards e-scooters. The extended unified theory of acceptance and use of technology was employed and an explanatory variable of environmental awareness (EA) was incorporated for enhancing constructs to investigate the factors that may influence the user acceptance of table-based mobile information on the reduction in emissions of six air pollution sources. The results indicate that the model constructs of habit, EA, social influence, and effort expectancy are useful predictors of the behavioral intention (BI) to use app services in receiving air pollution information. In addition, the model constructs of EA and BI are useful predictors of the purchase intention for e-scooter products after received the table-based air pollution information.

Internet of Things (IoT) explores the new sensor-based wearable devices and technologies that can be used in day-to-day life. It has opened up a wide range of new dimensions in elderly care, disability care and patient care through real-time monitoring and life supports. This new paradigm has reformed the lifestyle of the socially dependent individuals for the better. It has helped set high standards in the healthcare domain by enabling smart and high technology devices. It has bestowed a self-dependent life to the differently-abled and elderly individuals. Another appealing aspect about IoT is such devices are being made cost-effective in terms of their development so that large number of users look up to these devices for daily usage and whole mankind takes maximum benefit out of the technology. IoT, indeed has got a lot to serve to the society on various aspects, only if mankind is ready to accept it wholeheartedly. This paper briefly summarizes the role of IoT in healthcare and life support and highlights its novel utilities for betterment of socially dependents. Features of some of the IoT solutions have also been discussed thoroughly for instantiating the care that can be imparted by these devices in transforming the socially dependent lives to self-dependent ones. Also, a feature comparison has been provided to stress on the fact that IoT devices can indeed be upgraded at a fast pace which is not to be abdicated but rather be availed for the greater good. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Informatics has the potential to be of great use in the field of oceanography, such as an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler. This study uses informatics and machine learning techniques to analyze and model data collected from an ADCP device. Principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to reduce dimensionality and extract the most common and important features. K-means clustering was applied on the data set to group the data points into distinct clusters, and to determine driving features for each cluster and across the entire dataset. The main common features across clusters were bottom tracking range, navigation north velocity, heading, and error velocity. Virtual assessment of cluster tendency and improved virtual assessment of cluster tendency algorithms were applied after k-means to determine that the data in fact could be clustered, and what the optimal number of clusters are. These informatics and machine learning techniques were useful in identifying the most significant features within the ADCP data set and have the potential to be used in future informatics-based research in oceanography and marine sciences in general. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In Ecuador, the statistics presented by Educational Evaluation National Institution EENI register that 22.8% of the students from the Andean region and 18.3% from the coast, had insufficient grades in areas that include the study of science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). This study proposes the development of a physics mobile application that applies the methodology of gamification and increased reality to improve creativity, academic performance, the interaction between students and teachers (collaborative learning) and that is motivating and interesting for reinforce students' knowledge during use. For the development of the application, the theme will focus on the study of direct current electrical circuits. The proposed application will be made using the development environment called Scratch, which will allow us to create applications in a simpler and faster way with quite efficient results. On the other hand, the gamification methodology is applied which allows the student to use the application, learn, and reinforce their knowledge continuously. The functionalities that will make up the application will consist of the ease and versatility of building various associations of electrical resistances (series, parallel and mixed), circuits (batteries, variable and fixed resistors, motors, etc.) and the use of other components that allow students to set challenges and problems who will be able to solve them in a defined time. This application greatly encourages collaborative work and allows constant information by applying in-creased reality to electronic components. The application creates a safe and dynamic environment for learning since multiple tests can be carried out, fostering creativity, and developing reinforcement learning. The tests carried out have been satisfactory with students, carrying out a control group (traditional teaching) and a test group (with the use of the proposed application). B-mode ultrasound imaging is a popular medical imaging technique. Like other image processing tasks, deep learning has been used for analysis of B-mode ultrasound images in the last few years. However, training deep learning models require large labeled datasets, which is often unavailable for ultrasound images. The lack of large labeled data is a bottleneck for the use of deep learning in ultrasound image analysis. To overcome this challenge, in this work, we exploit auxiliary classifier generative adversarial network (ACGAN) that combines the benefits of data augmentation and transfer learning in the same framework. We conduct experiment on a dataset of breast ultrasound images that shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

A facial expression is a natural reflection of human feelings, It is the nature of the human to reciprocate through the facial expression to the living world from where the inputs are perceived. The human science measures the emotion, feeling and sentiment by seeing the human face and face curves, but the recognition of emotion through artificial means with high accuracy and less computing resources is more challenging. In this research work, we developed a state-of-the-art procedure that recognizes the emotion of seven categories, namely Happy, Anger, Sad, Disgust, Neutral, Surprise, and Fear efficiently using deep learning. In this work, the model is trained using the fer2013 data set consists of 35887, and the CK48+ dataset consists of 3540 images. We proposed a hybrid model of feature selection that is used before feeding to the proposed computing model of CNN architecture. We claim through the use of both the models one after the other the emotions is correctly recognized with high accuracy during both training and testing phases, which the conventional method doesn’t have. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Distance measurement can be performed basically by two types of sensors. The first type is ultrasonic sensor, which uses sound waves with a frequency of 40 kHz to measure distance. Second type is lidar, laser-based optical ranging sensor. The main idea in this study is to compare two types of distance sensor for the different distances between 50 cm-300 cm. Additional parameters are environment: laboratory and natural, surfaces: wall and glass in front of the wall. All tests contain 1000 measurements from which minimum value, maximum value and median are picked. Sensors are connected into Raspberry Pi 4B 4 GB RAM. The ultrasonic distance sensor which is used in this study is US-015. The sensor's operating range is between 2 and 400 cm. Connected to the hardware as recommended by the manufacturer. The test code was obtained from an official manufacturer site. The laser sensor used in this paper is Lidar-lite v3 with a declared distance range between 5 and 4000 cm. The test code with defaults parameters and connection setup are downloaded from the official site. Maximum distance update rates can be set to 500 Hz. Tests cases prepared for both sensors consist of stable place in which sensors are placed. In front of the sensors are set walls at different distances such as 50, 150 and 300 cm. In the last test case an glass obstacle has been added at distance 50 cm from sensor. In that test sensors are placed 300 cm from the wall. Preliminary results of these tests show interesting aspects of sensor works.

Using computer simulation to study the impact of connected and autonomous trucks on freeway mixed traffic flow. The future freeway vehicle models are divided into 4 types, conventional passenger cars, connected and autonomous passenger cars, conventional trucks, and connected and autonomous trucks. Based on the characteristics of the four models, the Nasch model was improved, including slowing down probability, driving style, maximum speed, lane changing behavior, and safety distance determination. Created a new mixed traffic flow model.

The paper is dedicated to the memory of Lotfi Zadeh, the founder of fuzzy logic. His ideas and theories brought about a considerable shift of modern scientific paradigm, related to the development of «human-centric» mathematical theories with applications. Some pages of Zadeh’s extraordinary biography are discussed. The main components of his scientific contribution, including fuzzy sets and linguistic variables, fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning, possibility theory and soft computing, information granulation and computing with words, are reviewed.
