Space Tourism is a topic of ever-growing discussion as commercial space providers are closer to opening opportunities for aspiring spaceflight participants. The current efforts on defining requirements for commercial space flight crews and participants, in the United States, are mainly safety-based and take into consideration the minimization of risks both from an operational and regulatory perspective. There is however a need to open discussions on space passenger experience design and create a paradigm that covers this novel role. A design approach is outlined to identify areas of study that already attempt to address human factors aspects in astronautical applications. This paper employs the PEAR model to identify high-level passenger-environment interactions that ought to be considered within the context of tourism. Using Virgin Galactic's concept of operations as a baseline, the model is used to gather the human factors that appear influential in passenger experience as well as methods to evaluate them.

Within the broad area of forensic accident investigations, much attention is usually focused on the accident reconstruction as well as human factors related to visual conspicuity, including time of day, age of driver, sight lines, weather, and the presence or absence of any intoxicating substances. This paper presents several approaches to accident reconstruction, human vision, as well as haptic and auditory factors tied to data obtained from a subject rig traveling over the rumble strips. These analyses are related to aspects of a severe trucking accident that occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on a clear, dry, interstate highway. The accident occurred when a tractor and semi-trailer hauling a large shipment of whiskey, appeared to strike a second tractor and semi-trailer that was parked near the fog line. Truck 1 raked the trailer and cab of Truck 2, rupturing both fuels tanks which led to a horrific fire.

The need to preserve past cultures, textile and clothing creations, identities of a society in a certain time period, made the development of exhibition design area relevant. Exhibition spaces must give innovative answers to the aspirations of the society, which are the visitors, reason of being of its existence. In this framework, human factor is essential in the exhibition design field. The present article intends to address essential points regarding human factor in its relation with the design of exhibitions of fashion and clothing products. Thus, we intend to equate and emphasize the role of the exhibition designer in solving issues related to human factors, both with regard to exhibition design projects and also with regard to the visitor/user experience of the exhibitions. In this sense, through the literature review and the presentation of examples it is our intention to clarify concepts and modes of action. The present article intends to address essential points regarding human factor in its relation with the design of exhibitions of fashion and clothing products. Mental workload is an important indicator of an operator's performance when executing a certain task. As a design concept, it is fundamental for monitoring and assessing his interaction with technological devices, such as imaging systems. A bad design can affect the mental workload of the operator, and therefore, becomes useful to assess it while performing the required tasks. This work presents a tool for cognitive workload assessment that is composed of two open-source and low-cost hardware parts: an electroencephalography system and an eye-tracker. Both are synchronized via an open-source software: Lab Streaming Layer. This paper describes the architecture of the sensor system, considering also specially developed hardware and software components that were included to allow the integration of the different subsystems. In order to show the performance of the system as tool to assess some psycho-physical indicators, examples of dedicated signal processing are also presented.

Information and communication technologies are increasingly present in university orientation and tutoring. The objective of this study is to determine the needs regarding the use of ICT by teachers perceived by the student. A mixed study was developed to 2779 students for the quantitative study and 51 for the qualitative study of different European universities. A scale created for the project that includes this research was used as well as the realization of different discussion groups. The results of both analyzes detect that university students demand more ICT skills from teachers as well as more direct virtual contact through different networks. In conclusion, an extra effort of the teaching staff is required by the student regarding the use of ICT in guidance and tutoring.

In Brazil, conventional construction sites processes prevail, where the workers develop outdoor activities and are exposed to environment variables, which, along with the personal variables - metabolic rate and clothing - may cause heat stress. This article evaluates the heat exposure that workers with outside activities on concrete slabs during the construction of buildings in the city of Campinas, state of Sao Paulo, in Southeastern Brazil. For the data collection, the analysis and exposure evaluation it was used the norms ISO 7243, ISO 8996, ISO 9920 and the Norma Regulamentadora Brasileira (NR5) that foresees the tolerated limits of heat exposure. It was analyzed the Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer Index (WBGT) along with the metabolic rate estimated of 40 exposed construction workers. The results show that, in every season of the year there is the necessity of heat exposure monitoring to avoid health damage to the construction workers' health.

Rather different views on the state of the art in truck platooning have seen some significant public activity earlier in 2019. Is it that complex to achieve real world bottom line fuel savings on public highways or public roads? What role do users - truck drivers - play when it comes to truck platooning acceptance? Acceptance issues are vital for successfully deploying truck platooning technologies. Acceptance of truck platooning may vary according to the level of automation and diverse application contexts. This paper sketches deployment paths of truck platooning and investigates truck platooning acceptance issues. Doing so, a literature review regarding truck platooning acceptance as well as empirical studies in Austria are conducted. The empirical findings confirm the trust among drivers in level 1 platoons and indicate truck drivers are rather reserved when it comes to the intention to use level 1 platooning.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of playing surface on physiological responses and performance variables of hockey players. Astroturf, also known as synthetic grass, increases the physiological demand of the game. The game is faster as compared to the game played on grassy field. It may be attributed to the fact that there is a natural difference in the design characteristics of both the courts. The performance of a player depends upon a combination of all the human factors including physical, physiological and biomechanical components of the player. Energy demand of the game is more on Astroturf as compared to the grassy field. Similarly agility of a player to cope with the fast defensive movements and to hold the ball is a deciding factor to escape from getting injured. As the game is fast on astroturf and the player has to depend upon more sprints or in other words more anaerobic components. The present study was conducted on selected national level hockey players of Punjab. The findings of the study indicated the significant differences in terms of physiological components like VO2max, Anaerobic threshold and ATVO2 but no significant difference in the physical characteristics of the player.

Public information guidance system plays an increasingly important role in the normal operation of railway passenger stations. National Graphical Symbol Standardization Technical Committee has investigated the public information guidance systems of 57 representative railway passenger stations. Nearly 290 main problems are summarized from standardization of guiding elements' design, systemic degree of factor setting, coordination of guidance system planning and architectural design, which provides reference for further optimizing and improving the public information guidance system of railway passenger stations.

Digital device ubiquity increased the need for HCI's analysis, but academic research is frequently supported in week frameworks. The establishment of a structured body of knowledge is essential for the development of more efficient interfaces and interaction experiences. Contemporary interface design is grounded in the natural ways that humans interact with each other and/or interact with the environment, fostering the development of transparent interactions through the use of increasingly more natural modalities in HCI. Modalities and dimensions of information are at the centre of UX/UI and, as such, are at the core of the analysis hereby presented. Its naturality is the basis for the establishment of effective cognitive ergonomics in HCI. This paper proposes a natural human-centred system design paradigm, expanding the user centred system design paradigm towards an effective human-machine interaction centred in natural communication.
