The main goal of this article is to clarify and demonstrate that non-visual system should be taken into account at workplaces (offices) by architects, engineers and designers. Factors such as biophilia, the non-visual system, differences between natural and artificial light and illuminance, among others, should be important parameters when conceiving an indoor space especially a workplace environment. Health and wellbeing are much more than a layout or an image. Which questions should be questioned when conceiving a workplace and keep balance between the visual and non-visual systems? That is a question that should have an answer based on several factors, not just the ones concerned with the corporate image and preferences of the professionals in charge of the designing of workplace spaces. To achieve such goals, the research is conducted throughout a literature review and the analysis of two case studies: Camilo Castelo Branco Street and 24th July Avenue, both in Lisbon, Portugal. Lighting Design deserves much more attention.

One of the key strategies to mitigate Metro Manila's traffic congestion is to promote more efficient alternatives such as railway systems. In promoting the use of trains sourced abroad, it is important to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Accessibility of emergency features is crucial, and studies have shown that feature dimensions affect posture and may lead to the development of back pains and chest muscle strains if not properly fitted. This study investigated the possible mismatch between train feature dimensions and anthropometric measurements of Filipinos. Train car features of four trains from two of the mass rapid transport systems were measured and compared with the standards and corresponding anthropometric measurements, and a survey on satisfaction and importance was conducted. Overall, users gave features with insufficient measurements lower satisfaction ratings. It is recommended that non-conforming features are adjusted accordingly, with priority given to those with low satisfaction and high importance ratings.

This paper discusses the strategy and policy on English Language Teaching (ELT) for young learners in China and Europe. ELT for very young learners is a double-edged sword. Before the establishment of native language acquisition, alien system plays a competitive role. Chinese and English belong to different families while many European languages belong to similar families. The competition between Chinese and English is fiercer than one among European languages. Chinese learners are encouraged to start English education at age nine when Chinese acquisition is nearly completed while European learners are allowed to begin as young as possible. An effective ELT method promotes the development of cultural diversity and social cohesion, and strengthens the sense of individual and national identity of young learners.

The aim of this study is to reveal the inconsistency of virtual model formations manually created by individual technical designers and to identify effective ways of referencing human body dimensions to develop a prototype virtual model in the industry. In this experiment, the technical designers were asked to create two virtual models based on two types of size charts. The results of the experiment show that the problems of inconsistency were associated with the different perceptions by each technical designer on body dimensions and body proportions based on given charts. In addition, the problems were caused by automatic adjustments in the 3D virtual fitting software program. The limitation of adjustable size scales existed in pre-programed built-in features in the program. The result of this study will provide fundamental and referential materials to enhance and supplement virtual modeling technology.

To progress a science communication (SciCom) in the field of ergonomics, this study organized the project of "ErgonomicThon." It was an ergonomics version of a kind of the Ideathon or Hackathon famous for brainstorming events. This case study introduced the first workshop of Ergonomic-Thon that was the special program to share useful research findings about disaster and evacuation behavior. Theme discussed in the program was the human behavior under emergency evacuation. The final goal of this program was sharing the ergonomic perspective of "4M (Man-Machine-Media-Management)" to utilize disaster risk management. The main program was group discussion and presentation to create new ideas about how stimulate appropriate human behavior under serious evacuation with sharing each experience. According to the results of questionnaire survey, many participants satisfied the ErgonomicThon workshop. Simultaneously, this study lead three suggestion to increase satisfaction levels among participants in the future challenge;(1) Localization of SciCom guideline for ergonomics, (2) Selection of academic topics for SciCom, and (3) Development of the specific guideline for short time event.

There is not yet sufficient knowledge on how people want to be driven in highly automated vehicles. In the present study, three different driving styles - dynamic, comfortable and everyday driving - are investigated in a highway scenario to better understand people's preferences regarding driving styles. 22 subjects experienced variations of lane change manoeuvres with two varying characteristics: duration and initiation time of the lane change manoeuvres. The more dynamic a driving style was, the shorter those two variables became. Results show that subjects prefer a more defensive driving style. The comfortable driving style caused less perceived discomfort and higher perceived safety over the whole test track. Interestingly, not even driving fun is positively influenced by a more offensive way of highly-automated driving. Later initiation times and shorter durations of lane change manoeuvres lead to significantly worse assessments of the driving style. These results deliver recommendations for driving style design.

The radiological units in Bogota-Colombia present working conditions that put physical and mental health at risk. Exposure to ionizing radiation in low doses and dysfunctional work environments generate environments of high physical and psychological toxicity. The study carried out an analysis of work and health conditions for an approximation to the work reality. Determination of disrupters and psychosocial predictors for promotion and prevention programs. Study carried out in 20 radiological units with 229 employees and sample of 220. Signature of informed consent. Use of Instrument Battery for the Evaluation of Psychosocial Risk Factors. Levels of reliability in the questionnaires;intra-labor of 0.957 and stress 0.83. Main psychosocial toxic risk and precursor "imaginary of safety at work" in 95%. Disruptors, low salary level and no risk training. Protective factor the relationship with your family.

Galvanize the citizen to be engaged with a smart city project projects are not an easy task, normally they feel that their voice cannot make the difference and leaves the project. Gamification can change this, by engaging the citizen with challenges and rewards, they will be involved creating "critical mass" to influence the makers and change the city. In this context, this paper presents the evaluation of a gamification strategy concept for the Smart City Sense Project implemented in a mobile application. The evaluation was done by a questionnaire with 41 questions, filled by a group of 23 citizens that was already involves in city civic activities related with security. In general, this special population has a positive reaction to our different proposals, but there is no unanimity in the aspects related to the gamification strategies associated with the rewards and the give challenges for their community. The user-centered design methodology proved to be robust to evaluate the proposed gamification strategy, allowing ergonomics to play a fundamental role in the development of an information system, that can prevent the occurrence of problems of acceptance in the future.

In the last decade, a significant increase of robotic solutions' implementation has been verified across several industrial contexts, including the furniture manufacturing industries. The current study aimed at assessing the risks within different workstations with human-robots interfacing at a large furniture manufacturing company. With this purpose, a questionnaire to collect the workers' perceptions about risks was developed. For each workstation, the William Fine method was applied, in order to estimate the risk levels and to define the priority of intervention measures. The preliminary results demonstrate that even though some preventive measures are already implemented, the workers are still exposed to different risks (e.g. falls in height). Therefore, several preventive measures should be considered. The current study was also important to the design and implementation of a risk assessment methodology with the workers' active participation, and the results can be a reference for studies focused on risk assessment in other companies.

This paper presents a pilot project, developed under a research Ph.D. framework, showing that the multiplicity of actors from different branches allow the construction of innovative and framed projects. This dynamic and open process result in knowledge, skills and competences construction among themselves and, above all, their applicability in the context of social intervention. This reality emerges the need for integrated multidisciplinary social agents that are an added value for society, analyzing the capacity of cooperation between two different but complementary scientific areas of projectual nature, although with different methods and the practices, Design, and Engineering. The developed prototypes were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively allowing the researchers to perceive some restrictions when assembling the different materials tested, for a solution more focused on the usability/mobility bearing in mind issues such as budgetary matters and product symbolic character, its main characteristic, related to the thermal efficacy.
