The cooling performance of three equestrian helmets was investigated within this research. The helmets were evaluated for their capacity to remove convective heat loss in the scalp area with the use of a thermal manikin head with nine thermal zones. The manikin head was placed in a climate chamber with an open loop wind tunnel. Ambient air temperature was 20 degrees C, air velocity was 6 ms(-1). Two commercially available equestrian helmets were included (one closed, one vented) in the study and one custom made equestrian helmet. The custom made helmet was optimized using design criteria for bicycle helmets. Cooling performance is a measure for quantifying the ability of a helmet to remove heat as compared to a nude manikin head under identical environmental conditions. The closed equestrian helmet had a cooling performance of 56% (22,6 W). The open equestrian helmet had a cooling performance of 86% (32,9 W), and the custom helmet had a cooling performance of 97% (38, 1 W). The results show that cooling performance of equestrian helmets can be improved with use of design guidelines that are used in bicycle helmets. Most equestrian helmet may currently not yet have specified inlets, outlets and internal channels that connect inlets with outlets.

To improve nursing clinical staff training, this study combines the methods of e-learning with situated simulation and follows the six steps of the design science research process to construct a surgical instruments network learning system. Based on lean management concepts to restructure the number of surgical instruments and establish basic equipment package, it eliminates the excess wastes of production, transportation, action and excessive treatment. Then, the surgical instrument images are linked to the relational database to establish the network learning system. To evaluate the effectiveness of the system, the learning outcomes and the satisfaction investigation of subjective learning were measured. The results show that it can improve the learning effectiveness of operating room new nursing staff, and enhance professional knowledge.

In the communication process, the human is not the message recipients solely but also the interrupters of the message meaning. Theorists of social studies developed some concepts of message meaning as semiotic theories. These theories highlighted the essential features of individual. Introducing the approaches of interpreting semiotics concepts, the meaning-making process was considered according to its meanings, which certainly involved an interpreting agent. These theories were the principles to explore various sign system with different cultural backgrounds. However, the limited understanding was explored for the digital generation who have grown up with complicated digital information system and advanced communication technologies. This paper offers a brief revision of the semiotic theories. It also examined the roles of interpreting meanings those involved in the semiotic process through web-based communication activities. Content analysis of several web-based communication activities would be employed as the research method in this study. It is expected that the result of this study would provide insight for more exploration of the communication principles of the digital generation.

Being able to access a patient's clinical data in due time is critical to any medical setting. Clinical data is very diverse both in content and in terms of which system produces it. The Electronic Health Record (EHR) aggregates a patient's clinical data and makes it available across different systems. Considering that user's resistance is a critical factor in system implementation failure, the understanding of user behavior remains a relevant object of investigation. The purpose of this paper is to outline how we can assess the technology acceptance of an EHR using the Technology Acceptance Model 3 (TAM3) and the Delphi methodology. An assessment model is proposed in which findings are based on the results of a questionnaire answered by health professionals whose activities are supported by the EHR technology. In the case study simulated in this paper, the results obtained showed an average of 3 points and modes of 4 and 5, which translates to a good level of acceptance.

intelligent parking assist systems are a common feature of modern vehicles. They provide assistance during maneuvering and parking of cars. While current vehicle backup cameras are an effective solution, the absence of spatial depth may lead to misjudgments and uncertainty, leading to material or personal damage. A novel approach to reduce this risk is the implementation of autostereoscopic displays which provide the user with a perception of the depth in a scene. This added spatial information enables better judgements of positions and distances for displayed objects. If implemented into parking assistance systems, effectiveness is increased by providing better distinguishable spatial relationships. The presented study is aimed to determine whether the use of an autostereoscopic display (i) improves the driver's spatial orientation and if this increase in information (ii) results in a measurable improvement of the parking performance. Results show that there is a tendency towards a stereoscopic parking assistance, but no significant effect were found.

The workplace has become a second home to many workers as they spend most of the day working in their various work environment while performing their job roles. It is therefore imperative as a duty of care for employers to ensure they provide a safe workplace for both employees and visitors. In the quest to provide safer working conditions, organizations have continually sort for strategies and successful models from other industries which they can emulate. This has led many organizations to study High Reliability Organizations as an incident prevention strategy. High reliability organizations (HROs) which include air traffic control, nuclear power generation stations and US Navy air carriers, are known to perform their operations in an uncertain and hazardous environment filled with the possibility of failing, and even when they fail they are able to recover quickly. HROs are known to perform nearly incident-free, with high safety and production performance. Research has shown that HROs are able to perform exceptionally well because of their cognitive mindset and collective mindfulness. Collective mindfulness is made up of five aspects present in all HRO which are;preoccupation with failure, reluctance to simplify, sensitivity to operations, commitment to resilience, and deference to expertise. This paper compares workplace incidents in Australia and the United States, using 2016-2018, incident data, extracted from WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork New South Wales, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, WorkSafe Western Australia, and the United States Department of Labour, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration websites. We identify falls and being struck by moving object or equipment as the leading cause of workplace accidents, while lack of supervision, non-compliance, training, and the absence of appropriate safety procedures were identified as contributing factors to most workplace accidents. Information and communication technologies are increasingly present in university orientation and tutoring. The objective of this study is to determine the needs regarding the use of ICT by teachers perceived by the student. A mixed study was developed to 2779 students for the quantitative study and 51 for the qualitative study of different European universities. A scale created for the project that includes this research was used as well as the realization of different discussion groups. The results of both analyzes detect that university students demand more ICT skills from teachers as well as more direct virtual contact through different networks. In conclusion, an extra effort of the teaching staff is required by the student regarding the use of ICT in guidance and tutoring.

The author's approach to the issues of time parameters optimization of the distribution of freight traffic in the regional railway transport and technological system, taking into account infrastructure indicators and economic and geographical parameters of cargo accumulation, is presented. A transportation process model has been formed, which is a two-criterion problem of integer mathematical programming. The procedure for finding the optimal plan of grain cargo flows by two time criteria was brought to numerical results using software.

A proposed benefit of self-driving cars is that of increased comfort and productivity of the occupants. Self-driving vehicle concepts and published research show the desire for engagement in non-driving related tasks while traveling in such vehicles. Based on survey results and financial productivity estimations, it is likely that completing work activities within such vehicles will be desirable, even expected. These predictions, along with current concepts for self-driving vehicles, fail to consider motion sickness. This paper explores why motion sickness is likely to be a factor in these vehicles, and explicit implications with a range of in-car non-driving related activities is discussed. Through a critique of current concepts, a contrast between that which is advertised, and what may be possible is highlighted and discussed. The importance for inclusivity in future self-driving vehicles considering demographic differences in motion sickness susceptibility is highlighted, and design recommendations for future self-driving vehicles are made.

In many scopes of human activities, both personal and professional, new digital tasks are emerging every day. The new educational module "Digital Culture" at ITMO University aims at building digital competencies of university students, both bachelors and masters, that is to teach students the existing approaches and methods of tasks solving, as well as to show them data processing and analysis techniques to implement in the future in their professional fields. Apart from conducting data analysis, the graduates are supposed to know how to interpret the obtained results correctly and how to navigate in the digital space easily. The disciplines of the first two years of study have been already introduced in the educational process of ITMO University both in bachelor's and master's degree programmes. This paper presents the curriculum content, the learning method and the results of the first years of the educational module. The disciplines of the module received positive feedback from both students and external experts in the intercollegiate seminars on digital education.
