This study aims to evaluate the behavioral compliance with dynamic safety warnings, in different levels of cognitive load in warehouses. Participated in the study forty subjects between the ages of 17 and 47. Participants performed two simultaneous tasks, while compliance with safety warnings was evaluated. Cognitive load had three levels (neutral, low cognitive load, high cognitive load) modulated through difficulty of double task. Behavioral compliance was 77.1% in the condition where there was no double task (neutral condition), in the condition of low cognitive load, 90.7% were consonants, and in the condition of high cognitive load the percentage dropped to 45.7%. Results suggest that the presentation of safety information is sensitive to cognitive load. In a work environment, where the demand for cognitive resources is high, there is a need to design stronger warnings that can increase compliance.

In the area of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD), dyspnea, one of many conditions that can be symptom of heart failure, is a metric used by New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification in order to describe the impact of heart failure on a patient. Based on four classes this classification measures the level of limitation during a simples physical activity. With the use of a non-invasive home tele monitoring system called Smart BEAT to retrieve biological data and heart metrics combined with a data-mining engine called PDME (Pervasive Data Mining Engine) is possible to obtain a different type of analysis sustained by a real time classification. The connection between the risk factors of CVD with the accuracy levels in the data models is recognizable, and continuously reflected with all the scenarios that were created. As soon, the data models used less CVD's risk factors variables, the data models become useless, showing us how connected the risks are to this disease, this sustains the idea that PDME can be competent data mining engine in this field of work.

A set of Sociotechnical System (STS) Principles that aims to optimise both the social and the technical aspects of the work system have been derived from many STS design efforts and experiences. In particular, the sets of principles have been developed by Trist and Bamforth [35], Cherns [9, 10], Davis [14], Berniker [5], Clegg [11], Walker et al. [41], Read et al. [30] and Waterson and Eason [45]. The current paper reviewed and compared the aforementioned seventy years of mainstream sociotechnical principles for system design. The principles were identified from a systematic review, grouped by similarity, and synthesised into an updated set of principles for researchers and organisations to use and discuss. In the tradition of all previous sociotechnical principles, they seek to provide criteria for designing organisational structures, group work, work processes, design processes, technology and individual tasks. They are also used as criteria to evaluate a set of existing ergonomics methods. The fortunes of sociotechnical theory have ebbed and flowed over the past seventy years, but the value of sociotechnical principles has remained. They are now increasingly relevant to a host of distinctly 21st century problems, all of which share a common imperative to effectively integrate people and technology. A synthesis of existing sociotechnical principles is overdue.

Organizations that develop work in neighborhoods with complex social problems can benefit from collaboration with communication designers. This paper presents a study of a co-design project, developed with young people from Rego Neighborhood, in Lisbon, with the purpose of creating the image for an event called "Festival Passa Sabi - Geracao RG". The preparation of the festival consisted of a set of meetings that involved IPAV workers, residents, former residents and the young people that we considered to have good leadership skills and responsibility. The graphic images and medias were created in close collaboration between the designers and young leaders. The responsible work carried out by the young leaders involved allowed them to acquire skills so that in the future they could lead other similar projects, building bridges between different communities. We therefore believe that this study may help other designers who work in the social field.

Usability of sliding door was tested with different door hardware designs, i.e., a grab bar, a vertical door pull, and a recessed door pull. Three levels of force necessary for operation (10 N, 20 N, and 30 N) were compared. Sixteen subjects of different ages participated in the experiments. They reported the ease of use, and their behavior was also observed. Results suggest that no more than 20 N force is desirable for easy operation, and depth of 15 mm would be necessary for a door pull to apply the force effectively.

In view of the surge of digital media and their overwhelming influence over the communication practice in Hong Kong, this preliminary study is to reveal its power through ten digital advertising cases. These cases cover the recent popular technologies used in digital advertising and the preferred ways of communications among the target customers. This paper dissects the cases according to the functional affordances of the discursive interface analysis and concludes that these cases do share a subset of the functional affordances forming the boundary and exclusion in the digital media in Hong Kong subtly and affecting the designing of the next generations of these digital media.

As fully autonomous - SAE level 5 - vehicles approach commercialisation, there is need to design and test user interfaces specifically for such use. However, testing in real environments is currently limited or, in many cases, impossible. In this paper, as a solution, we present a dedicated simulator for fully autonomous vehicles. First, we outline the design requirements for this simulator. Inclusive design principles were used to accommodate a large range of diversity in our population. It can thus be used by individuals with visual, auditory and certain physical and cognitive impairments. Second, we describe the capabilities of the simulator in terms of human-robot interaction technologies. We aim to assess both performance and non-performance characteristics of the resulting systems and how they can be integrated in the transportation experience. Third, we collate the knowledge obtained during this project to provide a deeper understanding of human factors in operating fully autonomous vehicles. We hope these results provide a basis for further research and improve the experience of users.

This paper presents a master course project on intelligent robotics offered by the University of Padova (Italy). The goal is that of training Master students for Industry 4.0 by offering a multidisciplinary laboratory experience in which two robots and a human must collaborate to fulfill an assembly task: one manipulator robot has to recognize some pieces on a table, manipulate them, and place them on the top of a mobile robot. The mobile robot has to carry these pieces within an arena until reaching an assembly station where the human operator will complete the assembly task. Through our constructivist approach, students learn how to face a rapidly evolving discipline requiring the integration and cooperation of multiple subsystems to create complex behaviors. They learn how to program autonomous robots by using the Robot Operating System. They learn how to exhaustively document their activity explaining design choices, the benefits and the limits of their approaches, as well as proposing new solutions to overcome these limitations. They learn how to properly implement and comment code as well as create step-bystep instructions to enable future users to reproduce their systems. The project is organized as a challenge to motivate students to propose innovative ideas: students are subdivided into teams, every team proposes its own solution, and different scores are assigned according to the proposed difficulty level and the required working time.

In the development of a gaming experience guided by the perennial search for user engagement, one of the relevant conditions to ensure and validate, it's its narrative and context. If we associate this the dissemination of cultural aspects, the development of proposals able to give an engaging experience capable to attracting future visitors, is a relevant aspect to make known not only the place but also its culture. And so, the development of game narrative proposals can have a relevant function in involving potential tourists. Our goal in this study is to evaluate narratives in order to validate the one that will able to give an engaging experience, for later adaptation through a Virtual Reality game experience. The evaluation was performed using the Self-Assessment-Mannequin (SAM), Emotional Engagement Scale (EES) and Cognitive Engagement Scale (CES). After the analysis of the results of these two groups, it was verified that the long narrative was able to arouse great interest on these two groups. To achieve the goal, we have developed two narratives, (i) Neutral Narrative, (ii) Emotional Narrative. We started the analysis of the results for the participants of Sao Tome island and it was verified that the results reveal that the longer narrative was able to arouse more interest of them. Considering the adaptation of this narrative in a virtual reality experience in a stand, we developed a second comparative study with an adult population of another country, in this case, the Portuguese. It should be noted that in this second sample we only use the narrative that aroused the greatest interest, the Emotional Narrative. The genesis of the comparison is due to the fact that the experience in a stand is open to a large and varied public, both by age and country of visitors.
