Usability is a critical aspect in the adoption of e-health applications. However, its impact on energy consumption has not been thoroughly studied in e-health domain. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between energy efficiency and usability in the context of personal health records (PHRs). A total of 5 web-based PHRs out of 19 were selected for this study and the energy consumption of these PHRs was assessed when performing 20 tasks. The results showed that the PHRs with best practices of usability consumed more energy than the others. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations for practitioners on how to trade-off between usability and energy efficiency were proposed.

Rural regions are a typology of region rooted around the world. Its identity and matrix are differentiated from the most urbanized regions. Associated with rural areas is a strong negative feeling of depopulation, undeveloped business fabric, less wealth and less ability to attract investment and where public and private services from various sectors of activity are not concentrated. This reality cannot be socially accepted and must be fought for greater equity within countries. To leverage this change, rural regions will have to become co-competitive and attractive regions. In order for this transformation to take place, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play a major role. This article characterizes the rural regions in their demographic and economic dimensions, emphasizing the case of the Northeast region of Portugal. Analyse and review a set of fundamental vectors where ICT can be a key driver and enabler for smart rural regions to be created. Finally, it is presented a conceptual model of what can be a smart rural region.

Bullet points are a set of symbols commonly used in typesetting to organise and present different points or notes in a well-organised list. Various shape options for bullet symbols, such as circular, square, dot, or diamond shapes. At the same time, some word processors and publishing design software offer other shapes and colour options. In handwriting, bullet points are usually drawn in any freestyle at the preference of the creator. This could reveal that specific user's select bullet symbols based merely on their preferences without concerning the use of bullet points and icons regarding the nature of communication, not to mention the feeling or mood that these bullets symbols project onto the reader. Misconceptions sometimes create chaos for communication. This study aimed to investigate the nature of the bullet system and how the application of bullet points constructs the information hierarchy. It also assesses the influence of bullet symbols on the organisation and typesetting structure of a document.

This paper addresses the inclusion of children with Down Syndrome in school environments. It is based on the work of one of the authors developed as a Master dissertation in the area of Communication Design. The research integrates the study of the problem in context, with the participation of practitioners involved in the education process of these children. Framing the context implied studying not only this specific pathology but also the used learning-teaching methodologies, communication and interaction design principles and practices among other issues. Moreover, it was made a comparative critical analysis of three case studies of learning objects/systems to acquire knowledge and guidelines to support the creation of a learning object that would favor these children (aged between 5 and 7 years old) inclusion in regular schools. The result was an interactive printed book to mainly support reading and speaking activities in a playfull and shareable way. This book was evaluated by experts and was after improved through a design iterative process.

Space Tourism is a topic of ever-growing discussion as commercial space providers are closer to opening opportunities for aspiring spaceflight participants. The current efforts on defining requirements for commercial space flight crews and participants, in the United States, are mainly safety-based and take into consideration the minimization of risks both from an operational and regulatory perspective. There is however a need to open discussions on space passenger experience design and create a paradigm that covers this novel role. A design approach is outlined to identify areas of study that already attempt to address human factors aspects in astronautical applications. This paper employs the PEAR model to identify high-level passenger-environment interactions that ought to be considered within the context of tourism. Using Virgin Galactic's concept of operations as a baseline, the model is used to gather the human factors that appear influential in passenger experience as well as methods to evaluate them.

The city of Quito capital of Ecuador has a heavy traffic problem, due to its geography that prevents the city from growing, in all the geographical coordinates and can only grow towards the North and the South, reason that extends the times of the trips of citizens within the urban perimeter and is the reason why it was decided to build, the first underground train of the city and the country, work of emblematic civil engineering, which until now is the one of greatest technical difficulty developed in Ecuador, the present The article is responsible for characterizing the ergonomic hazards encountered during the construction of the fifteen stations, as well as the drilling of the twenty-two kilometers of the Quito metro tunnel, using ISO/TR 12295 as an evaluation criterion: 2014, and digitizing the results obtained within computer graphics from a spreadsheet, to facilitate the initial estimation of the Ergonomics aspects encountered throughout the execution of the aforementioned works, this information helps as a baseline for the selection of critical tasks and the subsequent evaluation of ergonomic hazards, the analysis of this work allows us to have an approximation of the ergonomic risks found during the execution of the initial works that concluded in October 2018, as well as the prevention measures used to reduce the health effects of workers.

The aging of the population is a relatively prominent social problem in China, and the proportion of elderly people living in bed in China is also increasing. This article takes the home rehabilitation equipment on the elderly bed as the research object. On the one hand, the needs of home users for home rehabilitation equipment are analyzed by using the user-tool-task model. Discussed the user psychology, the experience in the process of using rehabilitation equipment, combined with the specific scenes when using, found the "human" factor of the rehabilitation equipment for the elderly in bed. On the other hand, the hardware and software interfaces of the elderly rehabilitation equipment for the elderly are analyzed. Combined with the existing bed rehabilitation equipment in the hospital, the "machine" factor of the elderly equipment on the bed was discussed, and the software and hardware interfaces of the existing bed rehabilitation equipment were improved. On this basis, the rehabilitation combined with physical rehabilitation and psychological rehabilitation was further proposed. system design. The need to implement a distributed Clinical Data Repository (CDR) at a healthcare facility, rose in large part due to the high volume of data and the discrepancy of their sources. Over the years, Relational Database Management systems (RDBMS) began to present difficulties in responding to the needs of various organizations when it comes to manipulating a large amount of data and to its scalability. Therefore, it was necessary to explore other techniques to choose the appropriate technology to build the CDR. In this way, NoSQL emerged as a new type of database that is quite useful to work with multiple and different types of data. In addition, NoSQL introduces a number of user-friendly features such as a distributed, scalable, elastic and also fault tolerant system. In this way, Oracle NoSQL Database was the NoSQL solution chosen to develop this case study, using the key-value storage. This article was motivated to propose a CDR architecture based on Oracle NoSQL Database functionalities. A one-single node database was deployed for better comprehension, in order to enhance their features for future implementation.

Humans have been trying to imitate and represent the world visually since ancient time. With the development of technology and computational visualization, the transformation of the imaging techniques from conventional media to 3D scanning as a new representation method with digital data generated has been widely applied especially in the creative aspect in recent years. 3D scanning technology provides us a new insight to understand the formation and essence of photographic imaging, in which the 3-dimensional image formation provides us with more layers to understand the sensory and knowledge about time and space, cognitive of being, and the technological and creative evolution in art. This paper attempts to discuss the essential transformation in dimensional imagery with human factors and its aesthetic experiences through digital art means and philosophical approach.
