The paper focuses on the definition of a new approach for the design of accessible sailing yachts that takes into account not only the physical problems of users affected by permanent and temporary motor disabilities, but also the presence of architectural barriers on most boats built to date. Through an analysis of the current state of the art of modern sailing yachts is possible to determine a series of cases in which the user, depending on his physical limits, may encounter problems while boarding or using external and internal spaces. The research aims to define the most suitable solutions, in order to create a reference standard in the field of nautical design for accessibility. The research leads to the drafting of a technical instrument useful to promote accessibility and inclusion on board.

Despite good quality roads and modern transport infrastructure, Arabian Gulf countries suffer from high road mortality rate compared to developed countries. Road traffic injury is the leading cause of death among children and other vulnerable road users in United Arab Emirates. Safe urban mobility is very critical to Dubai's continued economic growth and future development. However, diverse socio-economic and safety culture background of Dubai's immigrant population makes traffic safety improvement quite challenging. An online survey was developed to study tram driver opinions and perceptions related to road user behavior, tram safety challenges and suggestions for improvement. The survey findings suggest developing a positive traffic safety culture in the city to reduce serious injuries and crashes involving trams. The road safety campaign should target new drivers/tourists not familiar with tram traffic rules. Driver training program to be enhanced for reducing tram road traffic incidents.

During the last years we are witnessing a very successful osmosis between innovative and cost-effective credit card - sized computers and education. These computers, equipped with low cost sensors or actuators, can be the "heart" of various DIY robotic artefacts. This environment allows for a mixture of thinking and making activities that can be very meaningful in terms of pedagogy and science. Indeed, similar practices, usually referred as STEM or STEAM activities, are applied in many educational institutions, from primary schools up to universities, with most of the effort to focus on secondary school students. The overall process, although promising at the beginning, is not always straightforward to keep up with. More specifically, as students get more experience, they develop a hunger for more complicated scenarios that usually demand features like remote interaction with simple Artificial Intelligence - A.I. capabilities or sophisticated control of their robotic artefacts. At this moment, trainers should be able to propose simple and stable techniques to their students for implementing such features in their constructions. This paper proposes flexible methods for this to be done by exploiting the very popular MIT App Inventor and Snap! visual programming environments, in conjunction with a modified tiny web server module, written in Python, that runs on a Raspberry Pi credit card - sized computer. Furthermore, this paper reports on simple techniques being used to make robust enough robots by low cost everyday/ recyclable materials like cardboard, wood, plastic bottles or broken toys.

Nowadays wearable devices are very popular. The reason for that is the sudden reduction in pricing and the increase in functionalities. Healthcare services have been greatly benefiting from the emergence of these devices since they can collect vital signs and help healthcare professionals to easily monitor patients. Medical wellness, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring services are the main focus of Healthcare applications. Some companies have already invested in this market and we present some of them and their strategies. Furthermore, we also conducted a group interview with Altice Labs in order to better understand the critical points and challenges they encountered while developing and maintaining their service. With the purpose of comprehending users' receptiveness to mHealth systems (mobile health systems which users wear - wearables) and their opinion about sharing data, we also created a questionnaire (which had 114 valid responses). Based on the research done we propose a different approach. In our product and service concept solution, which we share herein, we consider people of all ages to be targets for the product/service and, beyond that, we consider the use of machine learning techniques to extract knowledge from the information gathered. Finally, we discuss the advantages and drawbacks of this kind of system, showing our critical point of view.

Information on how to present visual content in an ergonomic way is crucial in various fields. The current study examines how the gender, race of a person, and picture-slogan relative location influence subjects' perceived effectiveness about a social advertisement. Relative scores of 45 participants from WroclawUniversity of Science and Technology were measured by binary pairwise comparisons and formally analyzed by the loglinear model for frequency data. While making comparisons, subjects' visual activity was recorded by an eyetracking system. Mean fixation durations were comprehensively analyzed in the context of examined factors by a standard, five-way analysis of variance: Picture race (black, yellow, white) x Picture gender (man, woman) x Picture location (left, right) x Stimulus location (left, right) x Subject gender (male, female). Subjective results regarding perceived effectiveness of the advertisement variants were compared with objective fixation durations.

Care apparel market for disabled customers in Hong Kong is substantially grown up over last decade. Disabled users could hardly find their required apparel products. It was found that the clothing needs of disabled users tend to have the functional and aesthetic elements of apparel product, which are key factors to determine the feasibility of production method. The study aims at to classify the apparel characteristic based on disability level of users, in order to assist care apparel development in production and market. Observation and interviews were made with the disabled customers. The result revealed that the user expectations for apparel product were classified into three groups based on characteristics of current products.

The constructionist philosophy has a flaw that makes it anti-educational. The flaw lies in the notion, cf. constructivism, that physical objects are information sources. This cannot be true. Physical entities must be mental compositions before they may become physical constructions. Papert's idea of an 'object to think with' is unsound: deriving concepts from percepts leads to error. The realm of number shows this. Thinking about objects, au contraire can be scientifically productive. For this, the notion of a 'physical entity' must encompass the symbolic representation of language. A logico-scientific evolution-based proof shows that perception offers a false view of reality;revealed and overcome through the thoughtful use of technology. On this foundation, a prototype design and technology course for primary school with an emphasis on robotics based on the LEGO (R) system was developed. Outlined and discussed, it is compared and contrasted with work from the MIT Media Lab.

Temporary works designers influence construction ergonomics directly and indirectly. The direct influence is because of design, details, and method of connecting, and depending upon the type of procurement system, supervisory, and administrative interventions. The indirect influence is because of the type of procurement system used, pre-qualification, project duration, partnering, and the facilitating of pre-planning. A questionnaire survey was administered among attendees attending an in-house support work designer and supplier `designing for construction ergonomics' workshop. Findings include: a range of temporary works design related aspects impact on construction ergonomics, and the respondents' organisation considers/refers to such aspects frequently, and on a range of design, procurement, and construction occasions. Experience predominates in terms of how ergonomics knowledge was acquired. It is concluded that respondents contribute to construction ergonomics, but there is potential for enhanced contributions. Recommendations include that tertiary-built environment education should address temporary works design and construction H&S and ergonomics, temporary works design standards should highlight designing for construction H&S and ergonomics, and practice notes, and continuing professional development (CPD) should be evolved.

Backpacks are ever used to transport everyday essentials from one place to another which also come in a variety of design and specification that personify the person;yet most manufactures often overlook the importance of comfortability and posture support instead of aesthetics. Segment of the population suffer from excessively heavy loads of backpacks which lead to plenty of health problems. Contradictory to public beliefs, wearing heavy backpacks will not stunt growth [1], but will breed health problems nonetheless;bad posture, shoulders bending inwards and improper spine alignment. Furthermore, prolong carriage of heavy loaded backpacks brings great stress to a single muscle group resulting to muscle fatigue and causes the user's body to compensate to the weight misaligning the axis of the body [2, 4]. As backpacks have a high demand of use for students the researchers envision of creating a backpack that diminish the payload by properly distributing the weight. This method utilizes the muscle's carrying capacity and improves of the user's posture [3, 7]. In order to develop this design, anthropometry and statistics are used to determine the appropriate dimensions for each part of the product: Shoulder breath (Bideltoid), Shoulder breath - (Biacromial), Lumbar height and average bag weight. Choosing junior high school students as participants, ranging from 13-17 years old, who are typically carrying a heavy loaded bag. Gathering the participant's body segments and integrating it for the dimensions of the design with respect to the 5th and 95th percentile of the stated body measurements. The design serves the purpose of bringing materials with the minimal possibility of having discomfort due to overstressing of muscles [7]. Applying stress absorbers in the straps of the bag which will be designed to minimize the strain received by the user's shoulders. The ergonomic design should bring the user comfortability as well as functionality.

In this paper we report our approach and experiences concerning the introduction of Python programming language in programming-related academic curricula. Firstly we motivate our choice and approach regarding the use of Python programming language. Then we discuss the results obtained in two courses that we taught to computer science and engineering students, both with a strong focus on developing students' practical programming skills: Algorithm Design and Artificial Intelligence. We report our approach and findings, including identified difficulties and obtained results, as well as proposed future improvements.
