Several atmospheric hazards exist in confined spaces in several industries such as chemical, construction, transportation, municipal and agricultural sectors of the numerous potential hazards present in such confined spaces. This study will seek to identify gaps in the working procedures, attempt to explore answers on why accidents still occur in confined space work despite measures and standards put in place to ensure the safety of the work environment. The study aims to investigate the management of atmospheric hazards in confined space work, to ensure the safety of workers in the industry located in Nigeria. Results revealed that despite having knowledge of, and experiences in confined space work, poor testing procedure and improper monitoring, lack of adequate provision of confined space equipment during work activity, lack of adequate compliance is an issue of grave concern which answered the research question of why accidents still frequently occur in confined space work.

Social human behavior which is not always clearly announced or defined by consciousness, this emphasizes the tendency to self-protection of the I or the SAME, of one's. Currently the human behavior manifested in the actions, reactions, because it develops through the framework, family, social and educational, where ancestral values. Digital device ubiquity increased the need for HCI's analysis, but academic research is frequently supported in week frameworks. The establishment of a structured body of knowledge is essential for the development of more efficient interfaces and interaction experiences. Contemporary interface design is grounded in the natural ways that humans interact with each other and/or interact with the environment, fostering the development of transparent interactions through the use of increasingly more natural modalities in HCI. Modalities and dimensions of information are at the centre of UX/UI and, as such, are at the core of the analysis hereby presented. Its naturality is the basis for the establishment of effective cognitive ergonomics in HCI. This paper proposes a natural human-centred system design paradigm, expanding the user centred system design paradigm towards an effective human-machine interaction centred in natural communication.

In 2017, global population aged 60 years or over reached nearly 963 million, becoming twice the figure recorded in 1980. Not surprisingly ageing population will continue to accelerate due to continuing decline in fertility and improvement in survival in major diseases. When people who are suffered from cognitive or physical impairment, they often feel alone and experience different degrees of social loneliness. This paper discusses co-design experiences with various stakeholders to explore latent needs of older persons in their daily living using a universal design approach. Through iterative use of creative methods, freehand sketching and physical models, older adults can express their needs in a more accurate, tactile format. Findings reveal that commonality of interest among older persons are important in building rapport among other participants. It also helps designers develop assistive design related to health care, mobility, dining and leisure activities involving older persons, benefiting society as a whole.

This study aims to contribute to the knowledge regarding the process of decoding Brand Marks and the perception of the Visual Identity of food products. Specifically, understanding how people understand the styles and connotations of Brand Marks in a given culture. The research is based on the visual identity of Olive Oils and Cheeses with DOP certification from the interior region of Portugal. The investigative process was conducted as Project-grounded Research, using a mixed methodology. The non-interventionist methodology included the review of the literature, the study of descriptive cases and questionnaires, while the active investigation comprised a study of exploratory cases based on the redesign of the visual identity of cheeses and olive oils. The research is organized in a Study 1 (non-interventional research) and Study 2 (active or exploratory research) on 15 brands of olive oil and 15 brands of cheese. The analysis of the data is based on the levels of semiotics of Semantics and Semantics and Pragmatics (through questionnaire) of Brand Marks and labels, using tools that exam the effectiveness of the Visual Identity of the brand, which in itself is one of the results of the research, along with the Brand Marks (re)design guidelines.

Hygienic masks are highly useful in healthcare. However, when a commercially available mask is worn, the air gap at the upper edge of the sheet can allow contaminants to reach the wearer's nose and mouth. Here, we aim to identify a novel pattern for a hygienic mask sheet that does not form an air gap. Three-dimensional (3D) scans of the facial shapes of a female mannequin and female human subjects were obtained using a 3D analyzer. A two-dimensional sheet pattern was derived based on the facial coordinate data and a prototype sheet was fabricated using the optimized pattern for the mannequin. In a fitting test, the sheet was well fitted to the face, especially on the upper edge. Moreover, the facial coordinates relative to the nose tip in the subjects were similar to those in the mannequin. Thus, the proposed approach is expected to be applicable to other females.

The present study aimed to examine whether four weeks of short-term study abroad (SA) was effective in promoting second language (L2) proficiency gain, the development of affect such as L2 willingness to communicate (WTC) and L2 motivation, and a reduction in L2 anxiety. This study investigated proficiency test results and multiple questionnaire results collected before and after the four-week SA experience. 29 Japanese university students studying English in Canada participated in the study. The results showed that the participants made gains in L2 proficiency, developed L2 WTC and L2 motivation, and reduced L2 anxiety levels after studying abroad for four weeks in Canada. This study is a part of a bigger longitudinal research project, in which short-term SA in traditional destinations such as Canada, and short-term SA in non-English speaking destinations such as the Philippines are compared.

The fierce competition in the textile sector, especially due to the producers in Turkey, China, India, etc., implies the development of new competitiveness strategies based on cost reduction in the dying process at the same time as ensuring the quality of the products to the required standards. The solution developed by a team of researchers within the National Research and Development Institute for Textiles and Leather and successfully implemented in the economic environment consists in the design and realization of an electronic and automation system that ensures the process of textile fiber dyeing under conditions efficiency and increased productivity that responds to the technical and quality performance requirements imposed on end-user products and by consumers. The proposed technological solution is based principally on generating the turbulence stream of the solution in the dyeing bath by driving the main pump motor and maintaining the flow rate in the dye vessel constantly by actuating the float pump motor. Using the theories of fluid mechanics, optimization of the recirculation pump speed regime in under pressure textile fiber dyeing processes has demonstrated that the implementation of the technological solution leads to a turbulent regime that ensures the uniformity of the solution in the dying bath, while reducing energy consumption and energy costs, increased productivity through better process control, increased equipment lifespan, and decreased maintenance time.

Health websites have increasingly become one of the main sources of health information for people around the world. Although health-seekers potentially benefit from these sources, misinformation in health forums significantly misleads people. We hypothesize that nudging users to think critically about the information might be an effective approach to encounter with effects of misinformation on their' health. To this end, we applied elaboration-likelihood-model (ELM) in web design to explore how central and peripheral cues influence on information evaluation and eye-movement data. The results show that providing central cues such as trusted links and discussion threads encourage the participants to look at the information with more critical thinking compared to the peripheral cues such as number of stars and likes. Similarly, fixation duration and time spent in each scenario confirmed that users engaged in higher level of cognitive processing and critical thinking when central cues are dominated ELM initiators.

Bicycle traffic is increasingly being considered in transportation policies and bikesharing systems have become an inseparable element of transportation systems in many cities. This paper discusses bikesharing systems and their accessibility. The paper presents the results of an accessibility evaluation of the planned bikesharing system in Jaworzno (Poland). The variants of system development were evaluated using Multiple Criteria Decision Aid (MCDA) and QGIS software. With these methods, various evaluation criteria were covered related to system accessibility, including for people in various age groups, concerning accessibility of traffic generators and system integration with public transportation. The analyses resulted in a ranking of variants of system development, from the best to the worst in terms of the reviewed criteria.
