Smartphones remain one of primary devices of choice for communication for many people. For children ages 10-12 this is especially true. These devices are used daily and for some multiple hours each day. As more applications are made available, it becomes increasingly difficult for children to minimize their screen time. This study aims to assess whether there are differences in what parents believe about smartphone use and what the child reported. Thirty-two children, ages 10-12, and one parent per child completed a questionnaire regarding smartphone use. Findings show parents are unaware of the total hours of use and the impact of smartphones on the health of children. Such information is important as screen time is not limited to home but is also increasingly expanding in the classroom. As well, the age of first time users continues to decrease.

A subject of the paper is the reporting system that monitors the correctness of data in the IT production management system. The reporting system is also a feedback tool which helps to improve the process of entering data into the IT system. The IT system administrator created reports on the erroneous data to monitor the completeness and correctness of the data in the system. The research provided with the knowledge about quality of communication between company departments involved in the entering data process. The aim of the paper is to show the reporting system as a feedback tool, which is also a part of process of improving data entering into the IT system. The presented reporting system illustrates not only a data set for IT system users, but also provides a useful feedback about errors and lack of data in the IT system, improving this way the process of entering data and internal communication process as well.

Mattress is a necessity in everyone's life. Studies show that the BMI difference is one of the factors affecting the comfort of the mattress. The difference affects the pressure distribution in the contact surface of the mattress. In this study, seven mattresses of different hardness were selected, and pressure distribution test with 72 subjects was carried out to collect the pressure of seven parts of the body. The trend of pressure changing with BMI was got by difference and correlation analysis. It can be concluded that head pressure decreases with the increase of BMI. Back pressure, waist pressure, hip pressure, thigh pressure, calf pressure and whole body pressure increase with the increase of BMI. The research results can provide reference for the mattress design suitable for people with different BMI.

Bicycles become one of the main modes of public transport in modern cities. In many cases, they replace private cars and even public buses, especially in the cities with the developed bicycle infrastructure. However, designing and developing public transport systems should be implemented on the grounds of known parameters of demand for travels. The paper describes an approach to the travel demand estimation with the use of data obtained from GPS trackers. The article mainly focuses on data cleaning procedures and the estimations of the demand parameters on the base of the obtained dataset. The authors propose the software for reading raw records from GPX-files and cleaning the data. The case study of the bicycle share system in Krakow, Poland, is discussed in the paper: the results of the data cleansing and estimating demand parameters for recreational trips allocated from the obtained sample are shown.

In human behavior studies in critical situations, such as emergency situations, it's necessary for the participant to feel that is in danger and that behaves the same way as in the real world. For this behavior to be natural, the technique to control the avatar in the virtual environment should not distract users. A wrong choice of locomotion technique distracts users from their task and result in poor performance, frustration and cybersickness. In this context, the objective of this study is to know if a new technique (locomotion-in-place) is more efficient than the teleport, for human behavior studies. We evaluated collisions of the avatar with walls and objects in the virtual environment, the level of presence and cognitive maps. The results showed that Locomotion-in-place is a technique easier to control, regarding the number of collisions, but we didn't find differences in presence and cognitive maps between the two loco-motion techniques.

Some mobile applications present a level of complexity with respect to the functionalities of the graphical interface that are not easily understood by all users in a first approach. The use of instructional overlays (IO) or coach marks is a technique used to guide users to where these features are located in the interface by using a darker layer superimposed to the interface (overlay) where elements are placed such as arrows and text (instructional elements). The effectiveness of the IO was tested by measuring the completion time of a preestablished flow in a prototype. A between-subject design was used, with one experimental group completing four tasks with the help of IO, and the control without. Results show a tendency for lower times to complete tasks with instructional overlays, however, due to the reduced sample, a larger study is needed to confirm this result statistically. Interaction design of non-trivial interfaces should consider the implementation of instructional overlays.

Taking the project "Echoes of Machim" by RIGO 23 as a starting point, I will attempt here to reflect on the meaning of the emergence of practices which aim to do social good, in both art and design, and on their potential as agents for the remodelling of society and for social emancipation. "Echoes of Machim" is a social interaction project directed by RIGO 23 under the orientation of curator Michelle Kasprzak, in the neighbourhood of Palmeira, also known as Malvinas, a much-degraded district of the municipality of Camara de Lobos, on the island of Madeira. The project attempts to improve the selfesteem of members of the community through a number of initiatives with a group of 12 young people with learning difficulties. RIGO 23's creative process has in common with social design the fact that it attempts to tackle social injustice by activating social creativity, thereby feeding the public sphere and fostering the necessary debate to create new visions of the future.

The issue of driving under the effect of alcohol is a matter of several studies in the field of road safety because today alcohol is widely diffused especially among very young people (age ranging between 18 and 25). Each year data provided by authorities are worrying, more than a third of the accidents registered in European countries are caused by alcohol. Italy is aligned with this trend;the ISS - National Institute of Health estimates that alcohol-related road accidents are equal to 30-35% of the total road accidents. Medical researches confirm that alcohol generates negative effects on driving, impairs the ability of perception, attention, processing and evaluation and it has negative effects on cognitive and motor skills. Therefore, the present research is developed in the field of a wider project research with the purpose to investigate and estimate the impact of alcohol on road safety to support awareness campaigns "Drink or Drive". As demonstrated by findings of the previous study, alcohol has a significant impact on driving performances in terms of geometric, kinematic and dynamic measures. Trajectory, stopping and overtaking maneuvers were studied and a significant delay in reflexes, especially in stopping and overtaking maneuvers, that exposes drivers to high risk level, was calculated. In this research, the focus is on the drivers' eye-movements that are recorded in the virtual reality driving experiment. To understand how much alcohol impairs attention and concentration in relation to the driving performances, these data are processed and two eye blinking measures (i.e. % blinking and blink rate) are analyzed A sample of 20 drivers were requested to drive the virtual reality-driving simulator situated in the LASS3 Virtual Reality Laboratory of University Research Centre for Road Safety. Power grip and pinch force are considered as important parameters of hand function. The aims of the present study were to compare the maximum hands strength of Taiwanese workers with the results from different countries and to establish the prediction models on the maximum muscle strength for different type of force exertion for Taiwan manufacturing workers. One hundred and ninety-eight participants (99 males/99 females) were recruited to measure three different types of maximum strength (power grip, palmar pinch, lateral pinch). The participants were in five different groups (2024, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64). Study results revealed that hand strength of power grip, lateral pinch and palmar pinch of right-hand exertion were 31.9 +/- 12.6 kgw, 7.1 +/- 2.2 kgw and 6.6 +/- 2.0 kgw, respectively. Most of the maximum hands strengths of Taiwanese workers were smaller than those in Europeans and American. Using power grip force predict lateral pinch (Adjusted R-2 = 0.717) and palmar pinch (Adjusted R-2 = 0.609).

Today's automotive engineering faces an ever-increasing product complexity but at the same time steadily decreasing time-to-market. To meet the comprehensive engineering requirements of the interior layout, ergonomics must be put into consideration from an early stage on. Besides modern virtual validation techniques, a physical seating buck is still vital for ergonomic investigations. The present publication introduces an approach to integrate a fully parametric electromechanical seating buck into vehicle development processes. A key element represents the software using a geometric constraint solver to map interior dimensions form a vehicle database on the seating buck.
