Analysing manual work is an important task in industrial companies with high labour costs and labour intensive work processes. Industrial Engineer s can use the results of these analyses to identify potentials and improve productivity to maintain and improve competitiveness. To obtain goal-oriented results the processes need to be analysed in detail. One method that yields detailed information is the MTM-1-method. However, it requires a lot of effort and special knowledge. This presents a big hurdle, especially for companies with small production quantity. One option to reduce the effort and the required knowledge is using motion capture technology. This technology is capable to record human motions and to translate them into data that can be processed digitally. Known representatives are 3D cameras and motion capture suits. They track positions and postures of the human body, thus allowing conclusions about human movements. This paper presents an approach to detect body motions in accordance to MTM-1 using motion capture data from 3D cameras. The detected motions are then analysed with respect to productivity to show improvement potential.

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is an active area of research in mobile robotics and localization technology. To accomplish enhanced performance with low cost sensors, Microsoft Kinect has been mounted on a developed aerial platform in association with Skanect. Skanect transforms the structure sensor Kinect into a less expensive 3D scanner that can create 3D meshes. An experimental result shows how the proposed approach is able to produce reliable 3D reconstruction from the Kinect data.

"This method is needed to transfer for present one-phase cascaded-multilevel inverter to three-phase inverter without using more number of electronic components like MOSI-ET, IGBT". The paper presents issues related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to monitor natural forest resources and to estimate the post-fire surfaces located in forests, as an example of hard-to-reach areas for classic surveying surveys. The use of drones as a tool for geodetic measurements is becoming more and more popular, however, processing data acquired in this way requires proper analysis. The article proposes a procedure for processing images provided by drones to estimate the effects of natural disasters and exemplifies it with experimental data obtained in a forest area located in western Poland (Europe). The presented methodology concerned the automatic identification of post-fire areas in natural forest resources and verification of the results by comparison with the results of classical geodetic tachymetric measurements. The results prove the usefulness of images acquired by UAVs for identifying and determining the size of areas struck by natural disasters. At the same time, data from UAVs can be a reference base for geodetic measurements and a database for institutions managing endangered areas.

This paper is dealing with one important topic for physical human-robot interaction, and that is achieving and/or optimizing of an arbitrary Cartesian stiffness of robot's end-effector (EE). The focus is given on redundant compliant robots with serial elastic actuators with fixed joint stiffness, but can reconfigure without changing the EE position. The work presented in this paper is an approach where the robot redundancy is exploited to achieve the desired or at least some optimal Cartesian stiffness of robots EE. Robot tasks can be divided into primary and secondary tasks. In our case, the primary task is to track the Cartesian position reference and the secondary task is to optimize EE Cartesian stiffness behavior while keeping the desired EE position. This means that the EE position is a constraint in the robot Cartesian stiffness optimization. The algorithm for the Cartesian stiffness optimization has been initially tested using the simulation, and then evaluated on the 7-DOFs KUKA light weight robot.

Pollution from vehicles in congested cities is becoming increasing concern throughout the world. Indeed, many busy cities have introduced clean air policies such as congestion charges to reduce air pollution from road traffic. One contributor to traffic pollution is fleets of vehicles being used to perform scheduled tasks such as deliveries or maintenance. This paper will demonstrate how heuristic optimisation can better schedule the allocation of tasks to vehicles over longer term periods such that considerable reductions in vehicle usage can be achieved. Genetic Algorithms and Ant Colony Optimisation approaches will be compared as to their respective ability to reduce long term vehicle usage for a Birmingham based maintenance company which has a fleet of vans. Indeed, this paper demonstrates that with longer range optimisation as much as a 45% reduction in vehicle usage and hence emissions can be achieved with the associated benefit of reduced fuel costs.

The paper presents a problem of analysing facial area captured in thermal spectrum in order to estimate the drowsiness of the observed person. In the developed approach the state of eyes is taken into consideration. During the experiments we trained and applied a contemporary general-purpose object detector based on Haar-like features, known to be accurate when working in visible spectrum. Based on a position of a face, we localize eyes and apply a Gabor filtering-based approach to classify the eyes state. In contrast to the traditional, visible light-based methods, by using thermal image we are able to capture eyes state in very adverse lighting conditions. The experiments performed on video sequences taken in simulated cabin environment have shown that the proposed approach gives a very prospective results.

In this paper, we propose a sustainable supply chain (SSC) model with various distribution channels. For constructing the SSC model, (1) the minimization of total cost as economic issue, (2) the minimization of total amount of CO2 emission as environmental issue, and (3) the maximization of total social influence as social issue are considered. Since the SSC model should have various distribution channels, (1) normal delivery, (2) direct delivery, and (3) direct shipment are also taken into consideration in it. A mathematical formulation is proposed to design the SSC model and it is implemented using hybrid genetic algorithm (pro-HGA) approach. In numerical experiments, several scales of the SSC model are presented and they are used to compare the performance of the pro-HGA approach with those of some conventional GA and HGA approaches. Experimental results prove that the pro-HGA approach is more efficient in solving the SSC model than the other competing approaches.

Business Intelligence (BI) is important for achieving effective decision-making in higher education. This study, however, advocated the need to support BI with data governance in higher education. The systematic literature review was conducted using a qualitative approach. The study cover 2005-2019. A total of 483 papers were retrieved and after exclusion and inclusion criteria, two hundred and three were removed due to lack of relevance. Some of the removed papers were those written in other languages other than the English language. Finally, one hundred and eighty were analyzed for this study. Some of those sources used for the study include Scopus, Springer, science direct, IEEE explore, Web of science. The results were arranged under word cloud, word frequency, Year-source by attribute, matrix coding by methodology, business intelligence, and its benefits, critical success factor, data governance, and its benefits, an overview of higher education and need to support business intelligence with data governance. The study provides information to higher education business intelligence experts on the need to support their BI with data governance.

Bell provers are common calibration laboratory standards for the unit of gas volume and volume flow rate. The article presents a method of bell prover calibration. It bases on Critical Flow Venturi Nozzles (CFVNs) as transfer standards. The study has shown that calibration of a bell prover using proposed method gives comparable results to the other methods at lower costs, especially calibration time was greatly reduced. In the entire calibration curve the uncertainty did not exceed 0.2% at the confidence level of 95%. Uncertainty analysis is presented. Additional advantage is the possibility to determine displaced volumes for small doses.
