Pupil response is closely related to human affects and emotions. Focusing on the pupil response in human- robot interaction, we developed a pupil response interface using hemisphere displays for enhancing affective expression. This interface can generate pupil response like human by speech input and enhance affective expression. In this study, for the basic research of forming an intimate communication between human and pet-robot, we analyzed the pupil response during his or her body contact stroking forearm or head by using a pupil measurement device. Based on the analysis, we developed an advanced pupil response system for enhancing intimacy. This system generates the empathy expression when the talker touches any surface of hemisphere displays. The effectiveness of the system was confirmed experimentally.

Earth Observation (EO) Data Cubes infrastructures model analysis-ready data generated from remote sensing images as multidimensional cubes (space, time and properties), especially for satellite image time series analysis. These infrastructures take advantage of big data technologies and methods to store, process and analyze the big amount of Earth observation satellite images freely available nowadays. Recently, EO Data Cubes infrastructures and satellite image time series analysis have brought new opportunities and challenges for the Land Use and Cover Change (LUCC) monitoring over large areas. LUCC have caused a great impact on tropical ecosystems, increasing global greenhouse gases emissions and reducing the planet's biodiversity. This paper presents the utility of Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) neural network method in the process to extract LUCC information from EO Data Cubes infrastructures, using image time series analysis. Most classification techniques to create LUCC maps from satellite image time series are based on supervised learning methods. In this context, SOM is used as a method to assess land use and cover samples and to evaluate which spectral bands and vegetation indexes are best suitable for the separability of land use and cover classes. A case study is described in this work and shows the potential of SOM in this application.

The paper presents the concept of the method of determining the direction of ultrasonic signal arrival, i.e. the azimuth and elevation angles. This method is an extension of the previous approach which was proposed to determine only the azimuth angle. The approach is based on indirect phase determination. This makes it possible to tolerate spacing of receivers greater than half the wavelength of the received signal. At the same time, it provides increased measurement accuracy and reduced hardware requirements. For the proposed method, the preliminary implementation was performed and tested in simulations. This made it possible to estimate the value of the tolerated measurement error.

The ability to autonomously navigate in an unknown and dynamic environment avoiding obstacles while, at the same time, classify various types of terrain are challenges that have been mainly faced by researchers from the computer vision area. Solutions to these problems are of great interest for collaborative autonomous navigation robots. For example an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) may be used to determine the path which an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) has to navigate to reach the intended destination. This paper presents a novel vision based algorithm that allows for independent navigation with on flight obstacle avoidance planning, while simultaneously classifying different terrain type using a Wiener-Khinchin (W-K) Filter.

This paper presents an object-tracking algorithm with multiple randomly-generated features. We intent to improve the compressive tracking method whose results are fluctuated between good and bad. Because the compressive tracking method generates the image features randomly, the resulting image features varies from time to time. The object tracker might fail for missing some significant features. Therefore, the results of traditional compressive tracking are unstable. To solve the problem, the proposed approach generates multiple features randomly and chooses the best tracking results by measuring the similarity for each candidate. In this paper, we use the Bhattacharyya coefficient as the similarity measurement. The experimental results show that the proposed tracking algorithm can greatly reduce the tracking errors. The best performance improvements in terms of center location error, bounding box overlap ratio, and success rate are from 63.62 pixels to 15.45 pixels, from 31.75% to 64.48%, and from 38.51% to 82.58%, respectively.

Path planning is the preliminary requirement of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for their autonomous functions. This paper discusses the significant usage of UAVs in distinct applications and the need for path planning in order to increase their service rate in different applications. UAV's path planning can be either start to goal or coverage path planning. Path planning techniques can be generally categorized as roadmap/skeleton, approximate/exact cell decomposition, potential field, sampling-based, and bio-inspired/machine learning-based methods. These methods are briefly discussed in this paper. Finally, the present state of the art of UAV's path planning using these techniques is discussed. This paper will be a seed source for the researchers who are actively working on UAVs to implement efficient path planning techniques according to their usability in different applications.

There are many cases in which a single failure in a network, such as congestion, large-scale power failure, and traffic congestion in an information network, causes a chain of failures and load increases by concentrating the load on a part of nodes or links, and the damage expands. In order to avoid cascade failures, it is necessary to prevent the load from concentrating on some nodes and links. Cascade failures are likely to occur from nodes or links with high betweenness centrality. Even if the original network was designed so that there were no nodes or links with high betweenness centrality, the betweenness centrality would change due to a failure. On the other hand, if links and nodes are properly protected, nodes and links with high betweenness centrality can be prevented from appearing even after a failure;consequently, further cascade failures can be prevented. In this paper, we formulate the optimization problem to determine such nodes and links and prove the NP-hardness. In addition, we propose a polynomial-time approximation algorithm and evaluate the performance.

Multi Header Based Ultra Low Power MTCMOS Technique to Reduce NBTI Effect in Combinational Circuit 1

With the advancement of technology, negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) emerges out as a major problem for VLSI circuits. Meanwhile, the leakage power increases dramatically as the supply/threshold voltage continues to scale down. These two issues present extreme unwavering quality issues for CMOS devices. Since both the NBTI and leakage are reliant on input test vector of the circuit however input vector control strategy isn't viable for bigger circuits. Thus in this paper two design is proposed (1) Single header Based Ultra low Power Diode Tri-mode Technique is designed for reducing leakage and delay of the circuit (2) Multi header Based Ultra low Power Diode Tri mode Technique with Body Bias on all sleep pMOS transistor to mitigate NBTI effect. Experimentations are done on 1 bit full adder circuit with the usage of tanner EDA at 90 nm CMOS technology node and supply voltage 1 V. The results reveal that by using first proposed technique leakage current is reduces by 74.93% and 0.217% respectively as compare to Stacking with delay based MTCMOS method and ULP diode based MTCMOS method. First proposed design is also effective in terms of delay. Result shows that delay get reduced by 20.91% and 7.84% as compare to prevalent techniques. Second Proposed design at 50% Duty cycle is very much effective for NBTI effect mitigation. Experimental result shows that Second Proposed design with reduction in duty cycle(from 100% to 50%) the V-th shift on pMOS transistor reduces and with this decrement in V-th of pMOS transistor NBTI effect on the circuit will get reduced.

In the context of global aging, the elderly-oriented design of residences has become popular area within the field of building refurbishment. Spiritual needs are more complicated. Due to the long span of life experience, the spiritual needs of the elderly population are influenced by the evolving social culture and lifestyle, and characterized by the blending of the old with the new. Currently, a key issue is to determine the degree of association between the spiritual needs of the elderly and the residential space, and to assessed their impact on residential renovation. Another significant problem that needs to be addressed is which influencing factors can be reused in aging design, and what the array is. Therefore, the paper analyzes the elderly groups who are aging in place in the rural areas of southern Fujian, China, from the four aspects of behavior, history, society and organizational culture. On the basis of qualitative research, a model for the transformation of the spiritual needs of the elderly was proposed. The gathered research results confirm that the core of the spiritual needs of the elderly lies in social integration. The basis of triggering social integration is to establish an inclusive environment that is in line with modern society. This environment is functionally oriented with spiritual needs, and the cultures of social relations and religious belief play an essential role. Each spiritual need is transformed into spatial modules that are combined into a cross-chain, and various spatial modules should ensure that social contacts are established at all levels. This model emphasizes the complexity of the spiritual needs of the elderly and the significance of integration into society. Furthermore, it combines architectural refurbishment with aging design. The research results determine the direction and verification mode of the transformation process, which will be widely applicable to various aging living environment designs to meet the real need

Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) configuration is one of the most promising solutions to the fundamental problem of a telecommunication system: limited bandwidth. According to the MU-MIMO principles, different users transmit their signals concurrently at the same channel. It helps exploit channel capacity to a larger extent, but causes a harmful intra-channel interference at the same time. The receiver's ability to combat the interference and retrieve individual users' signals (Multi-User Detection, MUD) is a measure of the system dependability. In this paper we re-visit the solution to the MUD problem, based on the use of Genetic Algorithm (GA). The novelty of the current contribution is a re-designed method to generate the initial GA population, which improves the performance at no extra computational cost in comparison with the previous proposal.
