Assemblers need to react to dynamic market in a timely manner in order to succeed in today's competitive environment. To achieve timely delivery, some assembler may decide to buy and stock (BS) components from its suppliers and some may choose to contract its suppliers under vendor-managed inventory (VMI). This paper examines the impact of supplier's lead-time on the assembler's strategic choice of its partnership with suppliers. Analysis indicates that assembler will generate highest profit under BS and lowest profit under VMI. In addition, assembler will get higher profit by contracting with the lower lead-time supplier under VMI.

Customer churn is an important issue and major concern for many companies. This trend is more noticeable in Telecom field. Telecom operators requires an essential proactive method to prevent customer churn. The existing works fails to adopt best feature selection for designing model. This works contributes on developing churn prediction model, which helps telecom operators to identify the customers who are about to churn. The significance for the recall evaluation measure, which actually solves the real-time business problem is highlighted. The prominent goal of this churn analysis is to perform binary classification with customer records and figure out who are likely to cancelled in the future. Fifteen machine learning methods with different parameters are employed. The performance of the model is evaluated by various measures like Accuracy, Recall, Precision, F-score, ROC and AUC. Our aim in this work is to produce highest recall value which has a direct impact on real-world business problems. Based on experimental analysis, we observed that Decision Tree model 3 outperforms all other models.

This paper studies a crawler system for public cyber incident information published from official press release websites. The incidents information dataset allows us to identify the primary source of incidents and countermeasures of the cyber incidents. However, organizations publish the incident press releases in arbitrary format, which prevents us from automating annotation and classification. To address this issue, we propose a machine learning technique in conjunction with a webpage crawler and reports the accuracy and the performance of the developed cyber incident information system.

Robotizing laparoscopic surgery not only allows achieving better accuracy to operate when a scale factor is applied between master and slave or thanks to the use of tools with 3 DoF, which cannot be used in conventional manual surgery, but also due to additional informatic support. Relying on computer assistance different strategies that facilitate the task of the surgeon can be incorporated, either in the form of autonomous navigation or cooperative guidance, providing sensory or visual feedback, or introducing certain limitations of movements. This paper describes different ways of assistance aimed at improving the work capacity of the surgeon and achieving more safety for the patient, and the results obtained with the prototype developed at UPC.

The article describes the task of a mechanical system work while it is thermally loaded with bulky metallurgical blanks. A thermos car is given as an example to illustrate the methods of estimation of the structure bearing component limiting a car safe exploitation. The main heat fluxes are determined which define the condition of the car structure parts, the features of an intra plant rolling-stock exploitation are given. A model analyses of the thermos car is presented in three subsystems "frame - cowl - metallurgical blank". It also takes into account shear stress on a slide surface. On the basis of specifications and technical documentation, three types of loads are described, which have influence on the car in the process of its exploitation. The estimate of the distribution of thermal fields and structure stresses of the thermos car is calculated based on the finite elements method in the program complex ANSYS Workbench. The results of the estimate of the developed model compliance to the real distribution of thermal fields are given. The estimates show the necessity of the modernization of the car frame thermal insulation. The solution is found which allows keeping the tempo of metallurgical blanks cooling within a wide range of temperature of the environment, securing the elements of the running gear and braking equipment, guaranteeing the mechanical safety of the car bearing structure, securing the personnel servicing the hot car elements of the rolling stock.

Public toilets evoke negative associations among the majority of their users. Due to doubtful sanitary and aesthetic conditions the use of public restrooms is often an extreme experience. Also, the design of these places is regarded as a necessary evil by architects. It seems, therefore, that public toilets are doomed to eternal disgrace. But they do not have to be uncomfortable, unpleasant and unfriendly. Public toilets can bring relief to a community not only in one obvious way, so not only by meeting the basic requirements in terms of human rights to sanitation. If they are rightly included in the structure of the environment, properly located, marked, well-organized and designed can provide much more benefits. These objects may allow greater use of public spaces, preserving their proper functioning, cleanliness and aesthetics. They can also increase foot traffic in commercial areas affecting the improvement of the local economies, support local recreation and entertainment, and better use of green areas. However, the lack of adequate amount of toilets, wrong location and arrangement, poor organization, lack of efficient operation, low level of hygiene, as well as vandalism and other antisocial behavior may negate the benefits of public toilets. Such public toilets may become unusable or their usefulness may be limited. But breaking all stereotypes - public toilets do not have to be a nightmare for users, and they can use them with pleasure. Also the design of these places can be an interesting experience, occasion to demonstrate ingenuity and skills and at the same time a source of prestige for architects. Public toilets can even become a tourist attraction. If we want to prevent that the public toilets are the reason for resentment and shame, we can't be afraid and ashamed to undertake this issue.

Additive Manufacturing is becoming a suitable production process for many industries: it is based on the idea of adding material layer by layer, in opposite to traditional manufacturing processes. This technology shows advantages as design flexibility, internal logistics minimization and product customization that make it perfect to produce customized parts and all the applications where low production rates occur. The production of spare parts for classic or luxury cars is a field where Additive Manufacturing can be adopted because of low demand and relevant costs to manage stocks keeping several different parts in the after-sales inventory. The photogrammetry technique has been investigated to obtain the 3D model of the component to be replaced and send it to decentralized production centers equipped with 3D printers. This approach can enhance by far the supply chain management for automotive spare parts.

This document describes estimation and approximation process of bearings Remaining Useful Life from 2012 Data Challenge. Data were received with the help of PRONOSTIA Platform, constructed for the needs of IEEE Data Challenge. This paper shows different methods of data processing to approximate Remaining Useful Life, which is very important in industries and it is the main part of maintenance. Tests were made on learning set provided by Data Challenge. Raw Data were extracted, filtered and analyzed using algorithms implemented in Matlab. During tests there were used kurtosis, root mean square algorithms and moving average, which helped to process data to be useful for next tests. Remaining useful life was approximated using exponential fitting and different length of original data. Process of analysis boils down to determine at what point it is possible to correctly determinate the bearing remaining useful life.

Recent research has shown that visual and inertial measurements can serve as a powerful, robust and accurate odometry source when processed by state-of-the-art algorithms. One of the main benefits of such approach is short latency, even for on-board computers working on Miniature Autonomous Vehicles (MAV). However, depending on environmental conditions or sensor motion patterns, this type of odometry may be prone to drift or even divergence. In the presented work, it is shown that employing occupancy maps can limit such undesirable behaviour while still providing pose estimate at high frequencies. This is of particular importance for highly dynamical MAV control with limited on-board numerical capabilities.

Visual content searching, browsing and retrieval tools have been a focus area of interest as they are required by systems from many different domains. Context-based, Content-Based, and Semantic-based are different approaches utilized for indexing/retrieving, but have their drawbacks when applied to systems that aim to mimic the human capabilities. Such systems, also known as Cognitive systems, are still limited in terms of processing different sources of information (especially when structured in different ways) for decision making purposes. This issue becomes significantly greater when past information is retrieved and taken in account. We address this issue by proposing a Structuralized Context-Aware Indexing and Retrieval using Set of Experience Knowledge Structure (SOEKS) and Decisional DNA (DDNA). SOEKS and DDNA allow the creation of a multi-modal space composed of information from different sources, such as contextual, visual, auditory etc., in a form of a structure and explicit experiential knowledge. SOKES is composed by fields that allow this experiences to participate in the processes of similarity, uncertainty, impreciseness, or incompleteness measures and facilitate the indexing and retrieval of knowledge in Cognitive systems.
