With increasing access to the Internet through a multitude of devices, it is relatively easy to collect data from the public through a process called crowd-sourcing. Unfortunately, this approach has two problems: enticing users to contribute data, and determining if users have provided accurate data. The problem of inaccurate responses is compounded when a group of malicious users intentionally skew survey results in order to benefit themselves in some way. The first issue can be addressed through incentives, but this increases the need to solve the second issue since it is likely that users would produce fake data in order to obtain more of the offered incentives. We present a simple trust framework for addressing the issue of data quality in surveys, and illustrate its use with a real-world example. In this model, users are given access to the platform only when trusted users on the platform vouch for them. Although not fool proof, it does increase the quality of the collected data. Access to the survey results is used to incentivize users. We compared our solution to a traditional internet survey;we found that our solution reduced the number of invalid submissions by 9.29%.

Due to the development of internet and the intensive social network communications, the number of data grows exponentially in our society. In response, we need tools to discover structures in multidimensional data. In that context, dimensionality reduction techniques are useful because they make it possible to visualize high dimension phenomena in low dimensional space. Space-filling curves is an alternative to regular techniques, for example, principal component analysis (PCA). One interesting aspect of this alternative is the computing time required (less than half a second where PCA spends seconds). Moreover with the algorithms provide results are comparable with PCA in term of data visualization. Intensive experiments are led to characterize this new alternative on several dataset covering complex data behaviors.

Identification of leaf disease using multiple descriptors is presented. Initially the images are resized to 256 x 256 to maintain the uniformity throughout the experiment. The Histogram Equalization (HE) technique is employed on resized leaf images to improve their quality. Segmentation is performed using k means clustering. The contour tracing technique is applied on leaf images to trace the boundary of affected areas. Prominent features of leaf image are extracted using DWT, PCA and GLCM techniques. The performance of the system is evaluated using three different classifiers viz., SVM, KNN and CNN using Matlab on bean leaf database. The performance of proposed model on CNN classifier is better when compared with other existing methodologies.

In this work, we present goodness-of-fit tests related to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Michael statistics and connect them to graphical methods with uncensored and censored data. The Anderson-Darling test is often empirically more powerful than the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. However, the former one cannot be related to graphical tools by means of probability plots, as the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test does. The Michael test is, in some cases, more powerful than the Anderson-Darling and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests and can also be related to probability plots. We consider the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Michael tests for detecting whether any distribution is suitable or not to model censored or uncensored data. We conduct numerical studies to show the performance of these tests and the corresponding graphical tools. Some comments related to big data and lifetime analysis, under the context of this study, are provided in the conclusions of this work.

The Internet of things (IoT) is realised as a potentially effective means of integrating multiple technologies to improve the quality of people's life and offering interesting and advantageous new services to individuals. However, it has emerged that consumers' acceptance of IoT is currently low despite its huge economic potentials and impacts, as well as high investment from the private and public sectors. Yet, few studies have investigated the perspectives of the users on IoT. Specifically, only a few empirical researches had examined the determinants of IoT service adoption from the user's perspective and research model were still not fully developed. Hence, there is a dearth of empirical research on IoT adoption in Malaysia. Therefore, this research aims to develop an integrative model of factors influencing users' acceptance of IoT. The research applied an integrated model from the combine theories of technology acceptance model (TAM), and the theory of perceived risk. The research hope to provide useful insight into the key driving factors with regard to understanding consumers' behavioural intention to use the IoT.

The cutting of the lower jaw bone is an important surgical operation in the treatment of craniofacial disorders. However, many of the craniofacial disorders are rare occurrences. As a result, many medical students may never have hands-on experience on the cutting process. They rely on recorded materials such as books and videos which are not reliable skills transferring methods. In this work, we developed a virtual reality application for simulating the mandibular bone surgery. The system allows visualization of an operation room in a highly realistic virtual reality environment. Multiple operation modes are available and the user can use motion controllers to grip, cut, drill, join and compare the 3D model of the skull. For the cutting and drilling process, the guidelines for optimal cutting path are shown on a virtual model. The progress of the operation is evaluated and displayed as percentage numbers on user interface. The system continuously tracks the cutting line and announces the failure when the error rate is more than 10%. Our proposed system was evaluated by specialists in the field. In general, they provided positive feedback with some improvement suggestions for future works.

Strategic planning is a practical approach for researchers to conduct the STEEP analysis. One of the most promising approaches for strategic planning is the Foresight Framework. In the very first steps of Foresight Framework, however, the environmental scanning is involved. This process is time-consumed since a very large amount of data must be explored. To alleviate the time in such a process, this study proposes a design and an implementation of the forecast sentence extractor by using natural language processing and machine learning algorithm. The proposed algorithm digests a long article and then provides a short list of forecast sentences. Three feature selection approaches are tested. From the experimental studies, the accuracy of the proposed algorithm is up to 85.10%.

The analysis and prediction of brain tumor in statistical approach provide a challenging and quantitative evaluation of the medical reports, giving more valuable information for the neuropathologist. The rise of concern about human health risk for brain tumors has made the study more enthusiastic. The analysis of study with the several combinations from the datasets shows that the F-value in ANOVA is identical as F-statistics in the regression using R-GUI, hence the null hypothesis will be accepted. The adjusted R-squared values are calculated and found to be nearly the same using Stata and R-GUI software. The data analysis in all tables using Stata shows that when the p-value is less than the significance level (p < 0.0005), that is, probability > F = 0.0000 and probability > F = 0.0004, then the regression model is said to be a good fit of the data. The linear regression facilitates tumor analysis by allowing the estimation of extent and accurate investigation by calculating the p-value.

Solidity of companies or institutions is related to several factors but mostly to absenteeism. Taking annual leave or pre-determined absent days of personnel may be covered by others however, unexpected absenteeism causes irredeemably poor results. Prediction of the correlation between this predetermined and unexpected absenteeism is a challenging task and includes nonlinear relationship. Neural Network based Machine Learning models are built to solve this kind of non-linear problems by using their non-deterministic nature. In this research, three neural network models;Backpropagation, Radial Basis Function and Long-Short Term Memory neural networks, are implemented to solve prediction problem of absenteeism. In addition, a comparative study is conducted between these models. Two experiments with different training ratios and three evaluation criteria are considered and implemented. The experimental results suggested that Long-Short Term Memory neural network has very high prediction rates as 99.9% in prediction problems that consists complex data and it produced superior results than other two neural network models.

Wandering is a common behavior during all stages of Alzheimer's Disease (AD), but it can be distressing to both people with dementia and their caregivers. Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions have been increasingly relevant to promote ageing in place, targeting both autonomous and dependent older adults. Despite the potentials of AAL solutions, their pervasiveness can raise several security and privacy challenges. With mobile mockups, this work presents a use-case with SoTRAACE - Socio-Technical Risk-Adaptable Access Control model, applied to the prevention of getting lost in AD. SoTRAACE functionalities are illustrated as embedded in an alarm navigation system aimed at monitoring the person's geolocation and alerting when a predefined safety perimeter is crossed. The model, applied to a healthcare scenario, assesses security and privacy risks at each moment of interaction and provides an innovative way for improved adaptable security visualization in AAL environments.
