In this paper, we propose a methodology for using dynamic Bayesian networks (DBN) in the tasks of assessing the success of an investment project. The methods of constructing DBN, their parametric learning, validation and scenario analysis of "What-if" are considered. A dynamic Bayesian model has been developed for scenario analysis and forecasting the success of an investment project. The model takes into account the time component and is designed in collaboration with expert economists in the selection and quantification of input and output variables. Now, using the dynamic Bayesian model, it is possible with a certain degree of probability to assess the degree of success of the capital investment, without incurring monetary and temporary losses. This will greatly facilitate the investment forecast for identifying profitable investment sources. This is the advantage of the proposed approach.

The ergonomic experiment of human-computer interaction mode of eye movement control is carried out for efficient and precise interaction requirements of the human-machine interface. Based on eye movement behavior, operational performance and subjective feeling data, the advantages and disadvantages of eye movement control behaviors such as eye gaze and blink in human-machine interface design are studied. The results show that blink is relatively quicker to pick up the target, and the advantage of eye gaze is that the target control is more targeted.

Dynamic stabilisation of gyroscopically stabilised single track (monorail) vehicles necessitates accurate tilt angle control on transitions between track sections with different curvature to eliminate or to effectively damp unwanted sideways swaying of the vehicle caused by flywheel nutation and by the control lag arising from feedback control loop. In this paper, a feedforward tilt control method is proposed, which utilises on-the-go running rail image analysis to predict an oncoming rail curvature change and to generate an input for the flywheel gimbal servo drive to get the vehicle cant adjusted to the rail curvature beforehand. This approach will allow such vehicles to be used in high-speed transportation, where their advantages could be manifested in full.

The aim of this study is to investigate the similarities of drug shapes for preventing medical accidents due to similar appearances. According to the Medical Error Corrective Guidance published by the Korea Ministry of Health and Welfare's policy team, a number of pairs of medicine that should be treated carefully in order to prevent confusion. However, systematic investigation on which morphological factors cause confusion is not enough yet. In this study, investigated human's perception of similar drugs experimentally. As the first step, 15,000 tablet images were collected from the Korea Food & Drug Administration's online medicine library. Among them, 100 randomly selected images were used for card sorting experiment to construct a similarity matrix. The tablets were classified into several groups based on the similarity score analyzed by multidimensional scaling (MDS). The result showed that people have a tendency to classify tablets by shape, color, size and material.

A dataset is a matrix X with n x d entries, where n is the number of observations and d is the number of variables (dimensions). Johnson and Lindenstrauss assert that a transformation exists to achieve a matrix with n x k entries, k << d, such that certain geometric properties of the original matrix are preserved. The property that we seek is that if we look at all pairs of points in matrix X, the distance between any two points should be the same within a given small acceptable level of distortion as the corresponding distance between the same two points in the reduced dataset. Does it follow that semantic content of the data is preserved in the transformation? We can answer in the affirmative that meaning in the original dataset was preserved in the reduced dataset. This was confirmed by comparison of clustering and classification results on the original and reduced datasets.

Modern cloud orchestrators are generally designed to make efficient use of resources in the data center, by consolidating the servers workload. Recently, energy efficiency has become critical factor to sustain the growth of cloud services;thus, more effective resource allocation and management strategies are required. The situation is exacerbated by introduction of HPC-oriented cloud services, where other aspects of the application execution are critical, such as the minimisation of the makespan. Although a short makespan allows for a rapid application execution, often the overall energy consumption of the whole cluster suffers, growing out of all proportion. Starting from the growing attention paid in recent years to the concept of "green computing" (or ICT sustainability), in this paper we propose a different type of resource scheduler, whose main objective is to maximise the (energy) power efficiency of the computational resources involved, while taking into account the overall application execution time. An artificial intelligence (AI) technique, in the form of population-based evolutionary algorithm, was used to develop the proposed scheduler, in order to find the best possible combination between tasks to be performed and usable nodes able to guarantee lower (energy) power consumption and, at the same time, the fulfilment of possible constraints related to tasks' execution. This paper focused on the implementation and evaluation of an evolutionary algorithm for efficient task scheduling. Experimental evaluation of such algorithm is discussed.

How to explore precisely the affective demand of customers is an important area of research for the designers. Here we address this challenge by collecting the online comments of customers as big data, and applying the Software Kismet Affective Engine to perform the semantic cluster analysis of the big data. The design elements of a tailor made product is analyzed and associated with the affective elements of the customers. The key words of design elements and effective elements would be used to build the frame of the affective design data bank. The methods and results of this study could be very important and helpful for the market consultancy and can be extended in many other design areas as well. Especially, the affective elements with high positive valence would be extremely important to enlighten and educate the designers.

The combination of two technology model which are the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Use of Gratifications Theory (U&G) to create an integrated model is the first step in predicting the importance of using emotional icons and the level of satisfaction behind this usage. The reason behind using these two theories into one integrated model is that U&G provides specific information and a complete understanding of usage, whereas TAM theory has proved its effectiveness with a variety of technological applications. A self-administered survey was conducted in University of Fujairah with college students to find out the social and cognitive factors that affect the usage of stickers in WhatsApp in the United Arab of Emirates. The hypothesized model is validated empirically using the responses received from an online survey of 372 respondents were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM-PLS). The results show that ease of use, perceived usefulness, cognition, hedonic and social integrative significantly affected the intention to use sticker by college students. Moreover, personal integrative had a significant influence on the intention to use sticker in UAE.

A life-long classifier that learns incrementally has many challenges such as concept drift, when the class changes in time, and catastrophic forgetting when the earlier learned knowledge is lost. Many successful connectionist solutions are based on an idea that new data are learned only in a part of a network that is relevant to the new data. We leverage this idea and propose a novel method for learning an ensemble of specialized autoencoders. We interpret autoencoders as manifolds that can be trained to contain or exclude given points from the input space. This manifold manipulation allows us to implement a classifier that can suppress catastrophic forgetting and adapt to concept drift. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on an incremental version of the XOR problem and on an incremental version of the MNIST classification where we achieved 0.9 accuracy which is a significant improvement over the previously published results.

At present, there is a lack of in-depth processing and indexing of Chinese patents in China, which makes the patent data retrieval inaccurate and incomplete, leading to duplication of applications and waste of resources. Aiming at the problem of lacking annotated patent data in Chinese patent indexing, this paper studies an incremental patent annotation method. By using co-training method, keyword extraction and list extraction can cooperate with each other and iteratively annotate the functional clauses, which achieves the effect of obtaining much more annotated data through a small quantity of training data. Experiment results indicate this method can gradually improve the recall without sacrificing much precision.
