The article describes learning space and the concept of implementing digital competences in learning systems. The concept includes the following main phases: creating a digital competence framework for different target groups;creation and filling of training modules;choice of individual learning environment;creating a mobile learning system based on your chosen environment. The system should include web and mobile interfaces, appropriately scoped server subsystems and up-to-date dynamic learning content. Functionality of the system should also provide modern concepts of learning and interaction in the following areas: student-student, student-teacher, teacher-teacher. The implementation of the described concept will contribute to the development of digital competences of different target groups: teachers, unemployed persons, persons in need of retraining and so on. Each of these target groups will have its own, customized digital competence system. The feature of this system is its dynamism, since it changes in content and even content type over time as well as its refinement according to the needs of the audience. The implementation of the concept will build a comprehensive roadmap to support the development of digital competences in learning for many years to come. This will enhance the role of interactive communications and digital learning in the community, attract more and more target groups to ICT, and deploy mobile applications in digital competence training. In this paper, Maera, a low-cost open-source hybrid legged-wheeled robot, is presented. The robot is designed to be used as a teaching platform and a hands-on introductory example in the field of robotics. To this end, the paper describes in detail the design and manufacturing methods used, along with the main specifications and capabilities of the robot. Two educational use-cases are presented and evaluated by taking into account student feedback. It is shown how Maera can be used as a complete project that brings to the surface the most important topics in robotics, namely, design, dynamics, manufacturing, embedded systems, and control. Most importantly, it is described how the project bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practice throughout the development stages of a complex robotic application.

Intelligence is the carrying out of abstract thought, like the ability of learning and adopting to the environment. In general this ability would be defined by a common factor. Deferent types of intelligence, generally are distinguished according to the information on which they operate. Emotional Intelligence (EI) is a type of intelligence which operates on emotional information. It is mentioned that personality disorder is linked to various aspects of EI. The common method for studying the status of individual's EI is presented in questionnaires which are usually boring and exhausting for kids to fill them out. MSCEIT is one of this assessment tools which has performance-based measurement approach. To make the assessment process more engaging and entertaining for kids, we are going to gamify the whole process. In the first step, we have been designed and implemented a mini-game, which its main mission is to measure kids' EI by focusing on gamifying Faces and Facilitation tasks which are presented in MSCEIT. As the information gathering process finished, we are going to analyze this information by implementing classification methods using machine learning algorithms to improve the speed and accuracy of the assessment process.

A large number of studies support the concept that high salt intake is the main risk factor in increasing blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases in the population. The main objective of this study is to analyze consumers' preliminary satisfaction questionnaires regarding the use of an innovative prototype equipment to monitor and control salt during cooking - the Salt Control H (SCH) during their participation in one clinical trial. Most of the participants (37.5%) reported that stayed very satisfied with the use of the equipment (overall satisfaction) and 78.1% of participants would like to recommend the SCH to a friend. This acceptance study shows satisfactory results, even though it is a prototype version, to encourage the use of this innovative equipment in order to improve family's tools to healthier cooking.

Identifying plant diseases has been mainstay in any farming and agricultural activity since time immemorial. The most common method has been visually assessing the plants by experts to identify the diseases of the plants and recommending pesticides and chemicals which can be used to treat diseases in plants. Technologies like mobile apps have brought about advancements to this traditional method of identifying and addressing plant diseases. Although there are now a plethora of mobile apps aiding farmers with addressing the issue of plant diseases, there is a scarcity of studies that explore the strategies that are being employed by these apps. This paper identifies the strategies that are being used by mobile apps in plant disease identification to set a foundation for further studies with regards to this field. This is performed through analyzing mobile apps on both Google Play Store and Apple Store, through the description given by the developers and the use of the installed apps to determine the content offered and how it aids farmers in identifying curbing plant diseases. The findings using the inclusion and exclusion criteria that was set showed that overall, they are a few mobile apps in plant pest and disease identification with 152 apps only examined. The database strategy was identified as the most used strategy by developers with 78 mobile apps and the AI Diagnostics was the second most used strategy with 26 mobile apps from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store combined.

In the context of the increasingly dynamic development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the fields in which they are used, as well as by the increasingly restrictive legislative requirements, there is a need to implement a recovery system in the event of hardware or software malfunctions. This system is necessary in order to limit the damage that can occur to the onboard equipment, as well as to the goods and people on the ground. In addition to the classic electronic fail-safe systems, currently implemented at the software level in most flight algorithms used for autopilots, the last barrier to their recovery is the classic parachute recovery system. Our goal was to test and optimize a classic parachute recovery system having two types of veils, a cruciform one (surface of 2.26 sqm) and a spherical one (surface of 2.75 sqm). Our testing device developed in order to acquire the functional parameters of the recovery systems let us measure: optimal launch speed, minimum opening speed, maximum opening speed, shock at opening, opening time, oscillation after opening. The purpose of the experiments was to reduce the descending speed of a UAV with a mass of 3 kg up to a speed of 5 m/s. All of the functional parameters are necessary in order to choose the optimum wing shape, the folding mode, the need to implement the folding bag, the use of the extractor parachute, as well as determining how the UAV's fuselage elements can interfere with the opening process.

Human operators for monitoring areas with high-concentration of toxic substances incur to an elevated risk of diseases. For this reason, the employment of autonomous systems (e.g. unmanned aerial vehicles) are considered one of the safest ways to remotely monitoring these locations. In this work, we developed an autonomous system for real-time monitoring pollutants. The proposed solution is made up by the following functional blocks;first, an unmanned aerial vehicle which hosts a multi-sensors board and a wireless collector to transfer real-time data;second, a base station composed by a reconfigurable antenna to provide a constant and reliable wireless communication by directing the radiated beam toward the aerial vehicle. In addition, the base station provides analytical tools to assist the competent authorities on the decision of intervention. The overall system has validated in the landfill of Cerro Tanaro (ASTI), Italy, in which sensing, wireless communication and storage to cloud have been tested. Regarding the wireless tracking system we demonstrated that, by using a common IEEE802.11b/g module, the configuration process of the antenna beam takes only 2 s to improve the channel condition.

Manufacturing processes are dynamic and intensive. Efficient and effective production scheduling is a crucial step to guarantee the competitiveness of manufacturing companies. While production scheduling has been studied in the literature for many years, an advanced optimization strategy is still in the lack of adoption. In the fourth industrial revolution, a set of technologies brings the possibility to transform traditional scheduling approach to the smarter production scheduling system. Motivated to fill in the gap between literature study and practical usage, we introduce a new approach integrated into the operating system under Industry 4.0 context through a case study. Besides demonstrating the new scheduling centered workflow, we also discuss the correlation between saturation and scheduling performance in the aspect of completion time.

The chapter reports the results of research whose objective involved the analysis of the time-frequency waveforms representing variables affecting the residential construction market. The investigation of the time and frequency characteristics of the time series provides the identification of subannual, seasonal and interannual components in them with the purpose of defining variables describing the stages of the construction process, i.e. variables expressing the number of building permits issued, the number of dwellings under construction and the number of new dwellings completed. The adequate determination of periodic characteristics offers the simultaneous parameterization of subannual, seasonal and long-term variabilities of the resulting waveforms. The proposed algorithm uses combination of FFT, inverse FFT method and subannual spectra peak model. The identification provides adequate analysis of the residential construction market, and at the same time contributes to reducing the information gap in the decision-making process in the field of the housing market for the subjects that operate on the demand and supply sides of this market.
