As students of technical universities are increasingly integrating into a unified educational space, they are faced with the need to assimilate and process foreign-language information in solving cognitive and professional items. This study aims at identification of the relationship between metacognitive skills, critical thinking and the success of mastering the foreign language. For this, a pilot study with students of Kazan National Research Technological University (Russia) and students of the University of Isfahan (Iran) in the total amount of n = 376, was conducted. To assess metacognition, the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) by *** and *** in the adaptation of *** and *** was used. To evaluate critical thinking, a questionnaire was developed based on Holistic Critical Thinking Scoring Rubric (HCTSR) indicators by Peter *** and Noreen C. Facione. As a criterion for the success of training, we used students' grades in English (L2) over the previous semester. In addition to this criterion, the students gave a self-assessment of their level of English proficiency. The obtained results reveal that the success of learning English has statistically significant relationships with the level of critical thinking and the level of some indicators of the metacognitive awareness. Consequently, the development of critical thinking, as well as the reflection of one's own cognitive abilities, will contribute to improving English academic performance. The pilot study showed also that the success of mastering a foreign language is impossible without considering the context of the situation in which the student is. Environmental conditions, in particular the relevant activities where knowledge of a foreign language is necessary, can encourage a student to master a foreign language and develop critical thinking and metacognitive skills.

Mobile devices have penetrated all spheres of human activities, including education. Especially the mobile phones/smartphones are becoming widely used in learning thanks to their proved benefits such as improved knowledge retention and increased student engagement. The purpose of this article is to discuss students' attitudes towards the mobile app used for learning vocabulary and phrases in English classes at a university level. The methods included a literature review and a questionnaire survey. The results showed that the positive aspects of the mobile app prevailed over the negative ones. The mobile app helped students prepare for the final achievement test, learning was less stressful, interacting with the app helped students retain the English vocabulary better, as well as become more confident in their learning. In addition, using the app gave students confidence knowing that they had all necessary resources at hand and could access them at any time when moving around. They also enjoyed using the app and would opt for its implementation in other courses taught at the faculty. Thus, the findings of this study revealed that students have positive attitudes towards the use of mobile apps in classes and they consider mobile apps suitable additional learning tools, which can thanks to their interactivity, ubiquity, or portability, motivate them to learn.

The problem studied in this paper focuses on shortages of the diverse approach of professional training of truck drivers in Estonia and studies in details what is its' impact on specific knowledge and training with regards to dangerous goods transportation. Previous studies have identified that the heterogeneous training of truck drivers is a significant risk factor in the road transportation of dangerous goods. The research aims to assess the possibilities for managing risks in road transportation of dangerous goods through the occupational qualification standard of a truck driver in Estonia. The follow-up study presents a qualitative development research strategy based on the concept of general qualifications system and training system of truck drivers in Estonia. The study is based on primary and secondary data, providing qualitative analysis of interviews and meta-analysis of the results of previous studies. The framework of new study modules is created within the current professional training course of truck drivers based on a designed truck driver's profile. The validation is carried out by expert interviews. The bench-marking collates the qualification requirements and vocational training for professional drivers in Europe with risks within dangerous goods transportation chain identifies the qualitative relationship between them. The outcome introduces additional study modules into existing truck driver vocational education and training with a methodological approach to improve drivers' competences. This will be an input for developing the occupational qualification standard of a truck driver in Estonia shortly.

Over the past few years brain-computer interface technology has developed relevantly and we can see a rapid increase of interest on the subject in applied science. Brain-computer interface (BCI) based on electroencephalogram (EEG) is noninvasive and relatively affordable method of monitoring brain activity. Collected neural signal data is used to control computational devices in real-time and must provide user with the feedback. BCI technology has found its application on many levels such as neurorehabilitation and assistive device technology arising overall quality of life for the disabled. Firstly, in this chapter overall principles of BCI technology operation are presented. Then we take a closer look at the EEG-based BCIs and their recording methods. We present also types of BCI and its essential paradigms. Moreover, main concerns and challenges in BCI technology are depicted. Finally, a use of BCI devices as Assistive Device and in Rehabilitation Medicine is described.

The article reflects the organizational and methodological aspects of teaching elite students in an engineering university. The task of the "Introduction to Engineering Activities" discipline should not be a simple study of the essence, time stages of engineering activity, but a problematic description of the relationship between past achievements and current problems of the present. After studying the course, we revealed a high level of students' interest in engineering activities, the level of readiness for project activities increased. In general, students have a higher importance of educational - cognitive and professional motives.

This paper presents a case study evaluation results of a Coaching course on a MOOC to support dual career of athletes. The MOOC has been one of the most highly anticipated trends in higher education in recent years. Delivering web-based learning to potentially thousands of users at a time, it has dramatically expanded universities' reach and provided an indirect income boost through greater global brand awareness. Sport coaching is as difficult and as demanding as any other aspect of sport. Good coaching and poor coaching often have impacts on the individual athlete or a team. According to the evaluation results this course is complete, well-structured and segmented, covering the most important parts of coaching.

Based on results from EEG using Emotiv EPOC + NeuroHeadset device this paperwill analyze brain activity during playing competitive games, and training. The study will be conducted on independent test subjects with different skill levels in AimLab, software environment where subjects will compete with each other. Results will showhowbrain is active as certain skills levels are achieved and if muscle memory have effect on it in any way.

Universities of Applied Sciences in Austria offer study courses especially designed and optimized for today needs of companies and students. During the last 20 years, several approaches have been worked out. Feedback of companies employing graduates and feedback of students are among the main driving factors in the process of optimizing these study programs. An important need of adaption of study programs arises from the preferences of students [1]. Today almost all students of computer science start to work in their field while still studying. In many cases, this comes from the fact that companies are intensively trying to attract students, as the labor market in the IT field increasingly demands personnel. This in turn leads to many dropouts of students who are not going to finish their studies. One approach to overcome this problem is to integrate the education experienced while working in companies with the education of students in computer science. At the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien, such a program started on the bachelor level in computer science [2]. In the present paper, the authors describe a program on the master's level in software engineering, which is scheduled to be introduced in fall 2021.

Sorting networks are a special case of "oblivious" sorting algorithms that can be implemented directly in hardware. Their underlying non-plane connectivity graph representations can be mapped onto a certain class of minimal two-terminal networks, allowing us to associate a two-terminal reliability polynomial to any (optimal) sorting network connectivity graph. This class of networks is interesting in that it intersects the class of "matchstick minimal" two-terminal networks (which includes the planar Moore-Shannon hammocks), yet neither of these two classes contains the other. We compare the two-terminal reliability polynomials associated in this manner to small optimal sorting network connectivity graphs, with the reliability polynomials of Moore-Shannon hammock networks of equivalent dimensions.
