This paper presents both the experts and users evaluation results of the alpha version of TARGET (anTi-doping AwaReness Game for hEalthy lifestyle), a Serious Game for supporting the Anti-Doping Awareness for a Healthy Lifestyle. The game has been designed and implemented in the context of GAME (A serious Game Approach in Mitigating performance Enhancement culture in youth) which is an Erasmus + project. Particularly, the paper briefly presents the design and content of the serious game, along with the technological solution, which is based on the well-known Unity 3D platform in combination with Fungus plugin, and then presents the findings of the Alpha Version Users' and Experts' Evaluation of the game. According to the evaluation results, Lund's results are very satisfying indicating a simple and easy to use and learn user interface and users believe that the game is useful for them, and on the other hand, EGameFlow results are also satisfying, despite the fact that Social Interaction is below average but this kind of games do not include interaction between users, although Immersion is low. Combining this result with the open-ended questions about the negative aspects the result might be the long dialogues that the user meets during the gaming experience.

JumpStart makes use of research-based structured learning material for mathematics together with in-class support by interns, teacher training, real-time formative and summative assessment, through m-learning. To assess its impact on learner outcomes, a cross sectional study design was adopted, whereby performance of a random selection for learners across Grades 1 to 3 in 18 schools was analysed. Grouped learner outcomes (at the level of a grade across groups of schools) prior to the intervention were compared to learner outcomes post the intervention and set alongside a description of the nature of the intervention. Improvements in learning outcomes, as measured by the Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA) are evident after one year of intervention, and appear to be strengthened after two years of intervention. Overall the JumpStart programme is having a significant impact on all the schools. The use of m-learning by interns for the efficient uptake and appropriate dosage of an early maths intervention;as well as the utility of a tablet interface for the efficient collection of early grade mathematics assessment data should be of interest to the m-learning and broader education community.

Educational robotics is an effective tool for facilitating students' learning when students engage in making or creating with robotics tools. Making with robotics creates a fun and engaging hands-on learning environment for students. Throughout traditional K-12 education, especially in upper grades, students learn mainly by following teacher's instruction and lectures in a more disciplined and structured way. Students, even undergraduates, need to unlearn this more passive approach to learning in order to take initiative in their learning in a hands-on making environment. Making with robotics engages students in manipulating, assembling, disassembling, and reassembling materials while going through the design learning process. However, educational robotics itself does not keep students engaged in their learning once its novelty diminishes. This paper examines how several key elements are necessary for the use of robotics as a learning tool to keep motivating students to continue to learn. The projects completed by undergraduate students during the Fall 2019 quarter are evaluated in order to identify what the factors that contributed to their engagements and creativities.

Learning a programming language is a fundamental part of nearly every technical study program. Nevertheless, even students of computer science face challenges before they master sufficient programming skills. Therefore, learning to program computers is tough especially for non-computer science students. A highly promising approach towards alleviating this problem is the integration of game design elements in a non-game context in order to improve user engagement. Gamification comes along with a variety of game elements with different and unclear motivational impact. Consequently, this paper aims at identifying those game elements which tend to be suitable for an introductory programming course. To do so, the potential relationship between game features and intrinsic motivation will be examined first. Subsequently, a collection of game features will be analyzed to meet predefined selection criteria. As a result, the work revealed a set of competence related game features that are likely to fit better to a course for programming than other types of features.

Evolution, organisational changes, technological development and modern ways of working are transforming the workplace. We spend more time in the work cubicle than ever before. The office seems to be a second home, and its structure and design have an important impact on our productivity, happiness and well-being. Throughout the evolution of mankind, we see natural development in different stages, changing from the Ancient Age to the Digital Age in cultural, economic, technological and design aspects. During this timeline, the emphasis on the office has shifted towards the employee's work-life-balance. This has led to dramatic changes in the shape, purpose and design of our workplaces. But the appearance of Covid-19 has turned our personal and working lives upside down. The world's biggest e-working experiment has begun. However, should we work from home indefinitely now? How is the world of the office evolving? What could the office look like after the ongoing historical transitions? In our paper, we have studied the history of the office and its future perspectives.

K-12 math education is struggling as despite obvious job market benefits, several students choose to discontinue math education when given the possibility. At the same time, advances in learning technologies now enable modes of learning that were impossible up until ten years ago. In this study we analyse math education from scratch by returning to the hunter-gatherer time period and empirically observing how mathematics is present the lives of a San tribe in Southern Namibia with ethnographic analysis. With this work, we propose two high level design considerations for integrating math learning technologies with the hunter-gatherer way of living: (1) integration of learning technologies and real world objects;and (2) the introduction of physical activity and social communication to math education. We discuss how these two design considerations could boost students' motivation to continue learning math also beyond the formal school environment.

In Software Process Line Engineering (SPrLE), two main processes are established for the construction of a Software Process Line (SPrL): domain engineering and application engineering. The first refers to the definition of the structural elements of the SPrL, and the second is responsible for deriving process instances that satisfy specific situations (product development and projects with similar characteristics). As a part of domain engineering, the scope of the SPrL must be delimited providing the processes and their features to be reused and established, as well as specifying the situations that these processes will support. Scoping is a complex and vital activity, which can make it easier or more difficult for organizations to achieve a viable SPrL solution, but according to the literature, the definition of scope is in an immature state, which means that its materialization is not systematic. In this article, aspects such as ease of use, utility, and reliability of a proposal for the definition of scope in SPrLs are validated through an experiment. According to the qualitative results obtained, our proposal can be considered useful, organized, consistent, and has enough information. Despite this, there is a conceptual complexity that limits the adequate understanding of all the work involved in defining the scope. Nevertheless, the quantitative results show that our proposal achieves certain reliability and, therefore, repeatability and systematicity in its results.

This contribution is showing ways to overcome issues on the way to digitalized laboratories in engineering education. The results presented in this paper were gained throughout a long-term study: 10 different laboratories were surveyed over a time period of 8 years. A non-standardized survey method was chosen for this evaluation, including a semi-structured guideline with open questions developed during several phases of pre-testing. The didactics and technical concepts of the laboratories are addressed, as well as challenges encountered during implementation and operation. Key findings of the whole study were identified by looking at didactical setups, technical aspects, and project managing topics. Although some aspects of hands-on experiments on-site were easily conveyed into virtual or remote laboratories, others needed to overcome severe impairments. However, personal commitment and financial support were identified as important success factors. By addressing original learning objectives as well as technical challenges that arose during set-up and digitalization of the laboratories, the results of this contribution clearly emphasize the connection between didactical purposes and technical realization. In some cases, both virtual and remote laboratories needed additional assistance in rephrasing learning objectives and adapting them throughout the process.

The question of how and what to teach at schools as Informatics has been a hot topic for years. Different countries have taken different roads - some have focused on teaching basic digital competencies, some have opted for indepth IT teaching, and some have not decided yet. In Estonia, ways to reform the teaching of Informatics (which is still an elective) has been sought for years. In 2018, it was finally decided to start compiling the Informatics curriculum for gymnasium (secondary school) level, and in 2019 the largest three Estonian universities co-operated in creating the study materials. One of the courses was named Digital Services. Students and teachers of gymnasiums (7 schools, 50 students) were used as the focus group in the pilot. The textbook developed for the course is used by various Estonian gymnasiums and complemented by various training events for teachers. The planned further development includes the compilation of a repository for practical exercises (inviting contributions from various practitioners from business, government, local authority, and education). This article seeks to have a critical look at the situation.
