In the conditions of global digitalization of business, which influence on the competitiveness of entrepreneurs, on complete regions and national economies, it is of great importance to implement graduates career strategies. In the paper authors offer the approach of development a successful graduates career strategy, aimed in the systematic implementation of the formation of professional competences of young people. In the research the questionnaire was conducted among students regarding their motivation for study and employment, and in-depth interviews based on open questions were used to identify the main factors influencing the career development of managers and specialists who are associated with digitalization. The social features of the development of graduates career strategies are revealed. One of the main social barriers to the implementation of career growth strategies is the social stereotypes that exist in society and guide young people in ineffective career scenarios. The authors proposed an effective model for the development of the successful personal career strategy based on the development of professional digital competencies.

With globally increased migration and mobility across countries, it has become critical for many people to acquire a language of the host country. This study focuses on the case of adult migrant workers who are i) enrolled in second language education and ii) faced to a challenge of balancing between their professional and private lives and their studies of the target second language, needed for their successful integration into the host society. This explorative case study aims to support migrant learners in their second language acquisition across learning settings. It introduces and evaluates the use of specifically designed tool, TimeTracker, aimed at helping learners to keep track on how much time they spend on studying the target language influences their engagement and motivation to continue to study the host language. Eight participants from Sweden and Norway used the tool during the period of one to two weeks. Overall, the results show that using TimeTracker to log and keep track of the time spent on studying a host language inspired the learners to i) allocate more time on their second language learning, and ii) become more engaged in it through raising awareness and monitoring of their learning activities.

The rationality of believing a piece of information depends on the level of trust of each individual. To make a purchase decision, an individual has to trust the information they have collected from social media content. That said, to influence an individual's decision, companies have to obtain an individual's trust successfully. This study aims to investigate what makes an individual trust what they read on social media (SM). Participants of this study are from Germany and United Kingdom (UK). A model is created and tested with regression analysis. That helps to identify the impact experience with social network sites (SNSs) on trust of information in SNSs. The practical outcome is to provide advice to companies whereby to communicate with potential clients to transfer their information successfully and trustworthy.

Examining and identifying the way that designers approach game design could support the improvement of game design curricula. This paper explores how kids in the early childhood approach develop and apply game design strategies during participatory game design sessions. During a period of three months, eighteen kindergarten learners participated in game design sessions, creating their own games. The data analysis suggests that those learners applied different game design strategies than the ones they initially started using. The frequency and intensity of the use of those strategies also changed, showing patterns that indicate learners' development in their use of game design strategies and add empirical evidence to the field of game design education. Additionally, the Game Design Strategies Analysis (GDSA) is presented, which elaborates on the different types of strategies encountered when designing games.

In this paper, we describe the results of the educational machine learning case study with the aim to predict first-year computer science students' dropout in the Virumaa College of Tallinn University of Technology and determine factors that influence dropout rates. In this study two different datasets are used: (1) data obtained from the TalTech study information system;(2) students' history and study results collected in Virumaa College. To build predictive models, the following machine learning algorithms are applied: Naive Bayes, decision trees, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines and Neural Networks. As a result of this study were evaluated how the dropout prediction accuracies change from the moment of the students' admission to the end of the first semester. We found, that data that were available about students before enrollment allowed to predict dropout with 70% of accuracy. Using data that obtained from first semester allowed to rise prediction accuracy to 90%. Besides, the factors were determined that are related with drop-out and that are not. Any higher education institution can conduct a similar study, since it is conducted on publicly available data from the official academic information environment.

Engineering workforce fuels high-pace technology developments in all aspects of human life. A quality of engineering education today is essential to build engineers for tomorrow. This raises standards for pedagogical training for professors and other staff of engineering educational institutions. The framework of ERASMUS + project "EngineeriNg educaTors pEdagogical tRaining" ("ENTER") provides a venue for partnership between universities to develop and enhance curriculum. This article provides results of collaboration of KNRTU with thirteen universities from Europe, Kazakhstan and Russia in an effort to develop a Multi-Level Modular Curricula "Innovative Pedagogy for Engineering HEIs' Educators" (iPET) for the advanced professional training of the "educator of the future". In this work, creativity is identified as a key component of professional competence of an educator. As such, main goal of the discipline is to boost creativity of educator, to practice conventional and contemporary innovative pedagogical techniques and to build confidence to implement them in professional activity. Understanding of motivation, operational conditions, creative thinking, ability to reflect and their interconnections is necessary for successful implementation of the course. Analysis of innovative pedagogical technologies was also conducted as part of this work. It was established that the most promising are mind-maps, concept maps of literature review, Thesaurus description of terminological systems, so called Thesaurus maps. Research concluded, that the best results are expected when training is continuous, but administered in sessions, alternated with periods of practicing in a workplace. This allows educators and students to adapt to new techniques and master fewer of them at a time. This article summarizes methods, tools and organizational forms that are recommended for use in the discipline "Innovations in Engineering Pedagogy".

This study aims to analyze the stimulating components for business development in Latin American SMEs (case: Colombia).For this purpose, the unit of analysis was the companies listed in the Legiscomex database (trade intelligence) as of December 31, 2019, which integrates the national databases of companies registered and validated by the National Tax and Customs Administration the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce of Colombia. For this exercise of the impact of the four components of business development, 100,000 iterations were defined (Monte Carlo method), which represents a large amount of random data on the information parameters collected and accumulated to estimate a probability distribution of the success that the companies would have in real life, having as input the specific information of financial management,knowledge management, innovation processes and marketing. The results reflect that business development is influenced by four components in the following proportion: Financial Management (30%), Knowledge Management (25%), Innovation Processes (25%) and Marketing (20%).

This paper explores machine learning algorithms that can be used to predict student results in an assignment of a Software Engineering course, based on weekly cumulative average source code submissions to GitLab. GitLab is a source code version control system, commonly used in Software Engineering courses in Higher Education. The aim of this work is to create models that can be used to predict if a group of students in a team will pass or fail an assignment. In this paper, we present results from Decision Tree, Random Forest, Extra Trees, Ada Boost and Gradient Boosting machine learning models. These models were evaluated using cross-validation, with Ada Boost achieving the highest average score.

Learners of the 21st century face new challenges posed by the requirements of the digital era. However, education itself does not seem to have changed significantly. Thus, reports of a gap between graduates' competences and the skills truly needed in professional life accumulate. This paper proposes three best practices to modern 21st century education formalized as educational design patterns. Relevant literature is reviewed and the used pattern mining process is outlined. Furthermore, three educational software services fostering the application of the proposed patterns are introduced and evaluated within the scope of usability tests with 56 secondary-level students and a focus group of three teachers. The results show that the educational software services are well suited to reasonably support class and the educational design patterns provide educators with field-tested best practices for 21st century education.

Natural disasters, industrial catastrophes and terror acts pose potential risks to everyone's live and prosperity. Properly assessing such situations, especially in combination with radiological and nuclear (RN) threats, is a significant challenge. Several incidents in the past decades have underlined the urgent need for robotic platforms in scenarios involving radiation. However, the technical challenges when dealing with RN scenarios are immense. Unfortunately, engineers and developers often have no realistic testing possibilities, especially with regard to radiation sources, and cannot properly develop their robots for the demands of a real RN disaster site. Additionally, there is also a limited interest of the scientific community in getting their systems to work in the presence of radiation. One possible means to draw the attention of the robotics community towards such special tasks is through trials and competitions. Additionally, competitions also provide real world scenarios for testing which otherwise are often missing, allow a comparison and evaluation of the performance of different robot systems, and foster the use of important technical standards. This work describes advantages of this competition-based approach in general, and describes in detail one event with RN tasks and scenarios, which addresses all the mentioned aspects: the newly established European Robotics Hackathon (EnRicH).
