In the last years, the ergonomic studies of wheelchairs emphasized only the mechanical functionalities, like materials, durability, and biomechanical aspects of wheelchair propulsion. However, despite the importance of these characteristics for the independence of people, few studies have highlighted the aspects related to their user experience (UX). An Assistive Technology is not objects of desire, like a mobile phone. A wheelchair can stigmatize the user and therefore influence their UX. This paper aims to evaluate the UX and perception of stigmatization, related to two wheelchairs, with different design solutions, by crossing this data with their self-esteem. AttralkDiff2, Perceived Stigmatization Questionnaire and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were applied to 26 wheelchair users during the visualization of two videos with the wheelchairs in a virtual 3D environment. Results indicate that a wheelchair with an innovative design, presents a better UX and less association with stigma when compared to a traditional wheelchair.

Drylands are complex, dynamic social-ecological systems under threat from potential climate change and land-use changes. Mixed qualitative methods, including participatory observation and informal and semi-structured interviews, have been used to capture narratives of livelihoods and environment in Kajiado District, Kenya, with particular reference to a severe drought event in 2009. Analyses have shown cultural changes to be important processes in responding to system shocks and stresses. A Beliefs-Desires-Intentions agent architecture has been employed in an agent-based model to explore the emerging narratives after the drought, offering a means of focussing on these key processes and their implications for the system. A series of iterative periods of fieldwork have allowed model strategy, parameters and assumptions to be tested and refined with the original research participants.

In rural destinations like Douro region, tourism activities may be important to territories' development because they use some of their natural resources and endogenous products, develop another related local economy business, and contributes to population fixation. Technologies can support the promotion and distribution of these destinations, namely digital marketing tools. The present study aims to analyze the influence that some of these tools perceived usefulness, from the tourist point of view, have on a rural destination image. To accomplish this, it was used a sample of 555 tourists visiting Douro destination and data collected were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results demonstrated that tourist's trust in tourism digital marketing tools and their attitude toward these tools have an indirect effect on destination image. Moreover, the perceived usefulness of some digital marketing tools utilized to search, plan or purchase Douro destination, as website, booking and mobile devices, has also a positive effect on this destination image. On another hand, the perceived usefulness of a conventional channel, as travel agencies, has a negative effect on this rural destination image. This research provided some interesting insights for practitioners working in tourism destination marketing.

This paper, which stems from a larger research project, focus on the important role played by Ergonomics within the conceptual Design process, through the case study Daciano da Costa. We intend to disseminate among the international scientific community the thought and the practice of Daciano da Costa (1930-2005) given the importance he conferred to Ergonomics in the Design Process. He was far beyond his time and gave importance to Ergonomics from the early 60's onwards, when the subject was still almost unknown and little used in those times. Daciano conceived numerous interior and installation design projects of outstanding quality from the early 60's onwards. His work made him one of the most important figures of the twentieth century Design in Portugal. What Daciano brought to the practice and teaching was a process modernization, a new perspective on the emerging themes of design, like Ergonomics.

Researchers and automotive industry experts are in favour of accelerating the development of "cognitive vehicle" features, which will integrate intelligent technology and human factors for providing non-distracting interface for safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability in driving. In addition, infotainment capability is a desirable feature of the vehicle of the future, provided that it does not add to driver distraction. Further, these features are expected to be a stepping-stone to fully autonomous driving. This paper describes advances in driver-vehicle interface and presents highlights of research in design. Specifically, the design features of the cognitive vehicle are presented and measures needed to address major issues are noted. The application of Bayesian Artificial Intelligence is described in the design of driving assistance system, and design considerations are advanced in order to overcome issues in in-vehicle telematics systems. The triangular finite element with nine nodal degrees of freedom built up using displacement function as a complete cubic polynomial in Cartesian axes is described. The element is formed by averaging the characteristics of the three sub triangles;the function of the displacements for each sub triangle is given in the form of incomplete cubic polynomial in the local coordinate system, rotated with respect to the general system for the entire triangle. After adduction of all of the sub triangle characteristics to the total coordinate system for the whole triangle and averaging them, the final displacement function contains all ten terms of the complete cubic polynomial. The quadrilateral element, which is obtained by averaging the four basic triangle characteristics, is also described. The results of the test analysis of the developed elements are presented.

The present study outlines an approach that describes how the statistical pattern recognition tool as Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is used to segment, extract features from different types of human common locomotion data, classify them and make a reliable probabilistic recognition. We have utilized six type of motion (climb, forward jump, jump, run, sit and walk), and each of them was composed of eight AMC data format specifically chosen from the CMU online library. The captured data were transformed from three dimensional (3D) joints trajectories into Matlab analyzable 2-Dimensional matrix using the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) features factorization algorithm and then trained using the Baum-Welch algorithm, which has performed a classification of each motion's extracted features for computational evaluation. The maximum iterations tolerance according to the number of motion was around 0.001 for highly accurate probability. In spite of the noisiness of the hand and toe trajectories, the recognition level was pretty higher than expected. Although, this investigation doesn't take in account the different motion's trajectories speed. The overall model has shown the probabilistic efficiency of HMM when it is about segmenting and evaluating vectorized motion's features. The proposed study is suitable to any human common locomotion capture in AMC format and can be a great tool for further modeling in motion prediction.

With the increase in motorization, parking problems have become a major issue particularly in urban areas. Lahore is the second most populated city in Pakistan and it is expanding haphazardly. According to the Lahore Urban Transport Master Plan, trip generation would increase up to 48% from the year 2010 to 2030. Road occupation by parking is found to be 25-50%, where there is a commercial activity in Lahore. The increase in traffic volume leads to serious parking problems;hence more parking spaces are required in the city. Currently, it is essential to estimate the parking demand and statistics for the better development of parking facilities. The focus of this study is to calculate the parking statistics for the selected locations in the Central Business District (CBD) of Lahore.
