In order to reduce the traffic of networks and servers in the IoT, types of the fog computing (FC) models are proposed, which are composed of fog nodes. A fog node supports application processes to calculate output data on sensor data and forward the output data to servers. A topic-based PS (publish/subscribe) model is a new contents-aware, event-driven model of a distributed system. Here, a process publishes a message whose contents are denoted by publication topics. A process specifies subscription topics and only is delivered messages whose publication topics include some of the subscription topics. In our previous studies, the MPSFC (Mobile PS (publish/subscribe) Fog computing) model is proposed where mobile fog nodes like vehicles are interconnected and fog nodes communicate with one another in wireless networks by the PS model. In this paper, we propose a TBDT (Topic-based Data Transmission) protocol for mobile fog nodes to deliver messages to target nodes. In the evaluation, we show the number of messages in the TBDT protocol is fewer than the epidemic routing protocol while the delivery ratio is smaller.

The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing schools, universities and learning and development professionals to shift rapidly from in-person to online learning. It made providing of an effective e-learning contents more important. Consequently, the development of e-learning products and provision of e-learning opportunities is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of education and training. The growth of e-learning application is accelerating through both offline and online system. These innovative systems are changing the face of learning as we know it. However, what is known about these innovative approaches for learning and training has been limited by the shortage of scientifically evaluation. This study aims to assess the impact of using interactive instructions on e-learning to improve effectiveness of a programming course. This study develops a questionnaire based on usability evaluationmethod for an e-learning system. The method extends the current practice by focusing not only on cognitive but also affective considerations that may influence e-learning usability. This paper presents findings from a study of the impact of the learning systems. The study also describes designing evaluation sheet, data collection and analysis strategies of a case study on the evaluation of the e-learning system implemented for Programming Course in Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Japan.

This research is geared towards shaping, simulating, designing and developing a movement system, which is based on the principles of the Stewart platform. From the point of view of mobility, it is considered a modified Stewart platform so that as mobility increases, the positions of the static and movable points of the platform change until a form compatible with the human shoulder is reached. Using modelling and simulation, the operation of the modified platform and its compatibility with the human shoulder are justified. To make the real model, there have been used technically and economically accessible materials, to obtain a low-cost product. Unlike the classic Stewart platform, the approach covered by this paper is to simplify, by horizontal optimization, the motion system so that it can synthesize the movement of the shoulder joint, with degrees of freedom similar to the human shoulder, while simultaneously maintaining a reliable force level. The main purpose of this work is to reproduce, first by design, then by calculation, a physical model of the biological mechanism of the shoulder. The model designed in this research replaces the muscles with wires and actuators. In this process, the selection and arrangement of components was simplified in positioning and as number, favoring anatomical mimicry. There was studied and constructed the mechanism according to the anatomical descriptions, which were described from a medical point of view, and there can be noticed that by applying technical mechanics, results the same kind of movements, but not necessarily the same type of joint.

Robotic toys provide opportunities for learning across different areas of the curriculum. This paper investigates teachers' perceptions of robotic toys and their ability to integrate the Bee-bot robotic toy in their teaching of English as a foreign language. For the purpose of this research, a training session specialized for teachers of English was held in an informal educational institution in Greece while, a year later a follow-up session took place at the same institution with the aim to reexamine teachers' perceptions and study their ability to integrate the Beebot robotic toy in teaching. In this study, we have followed a qualitative approach and collected qualitative data by carrying out two interviews with the teachers (in the end of the training and in the follow-up session) and by examining their lesson plans. The results show that teachers after receiving training, feel confident and eager to use robotic toys in their teaching and view that that there are multiple applications of this technology in foreign language instruction. After having the opportunity to use robotic toys in their teaching practice, teachers' perceptions remain positive despite the few challenges they faced in the implementation. The results of the follow-up session indicate that teachers participating in the training were able to integrate the Bee-bot robotic toy in their teaching of English as a foreign language.

Chinese word segmentation is an important research content in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). In this paper, we combine the Transformer model to propose the Window Core (W-core) Transformer for the tasks. In this model, W-core can preprocess sentence information according to the characteristics of Chinese and incorporate features extracted by the Transformer model. Experimental results show that the W-core Transformer model can improve the effect of the original Transformer model on Chinese word segmentation. Finally, we improve the performance of W-core Transformer by increasing the number of encoder layers and oversampling.

The popularity of using robotics sets in schools is likely to continue the rising trend even two decades after the outbreak started by the introduction of LEGOMINDSTORMS sets. Yet, their use outside the usual scenario of constructionist robotics hands-on activities is still very limited and rare. We are concerned with using the sets in interdisciplinary scenarios, in particular to learn about and teach physics in elementary and secondary schools. We have designed a set of ten publicly available physics experiments that can be performed with the newly released LEGO Education Spike Prime to demonstrate physics principles and phenomena in playful sessions. We describe the experiments and their preliminary testing.

With the rapid increase of cloud computing, big data and real time web applications, there is eminent need for databases that can handle and process large volumes of data, with high-performance and great scaling capabilities. Since its beginning this was the main goal for NoSQL databases. In this paper we will touch bases with three of the most popular NoSQL databases: MongoDB, Couchbase and CouchDB. We will compare them using the OSSpal methodology and the YCSB framework in a quantitative and qualitative matter. Also, we will cover the basics of NoSQL and its types, how it scales.

Playing provides many opportunities for learning as learners can take charge and make choices about their learning. However, since all play is not learning, it makes sense to combine learning and playing activities. In the area of teamwork training, despite the existence of a number of learning and leisure games, there is still room for a holistic approach to design such games. Thus, a game design is introduced based on well-proven and documented aspects of teamwork training. Based on this design, an initial proof of concept prototype is created and evaluated with 18 participants. The results are promising as the relationship between the prototype and teamwork was recognized, the prototypes training and playing potential was confirmed, and even its usability was rated as good. However, a more advanced prototype and artwork and a longer term study are required to further establish the training capabilities of the game design.

The Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) in Costa Rica is the public distance-education university in Costa Rica. It has been regularly using different types of remote laboratories since 2017, and is in the process of deploying new remote laboratories, as well as providing high quality simulations for improving the experimentation process in distance education;in the particular fields of Physics and Engineering. LabsLand is the global network of educational real laboratories available online. In 2018, UNED and LabsLand deployed the VISIR electronics remote laboratory in UNED. Since then, at the time of this writing, 167 students have had 979 laboratory sessions, including both in class and in multiple workshops with school teachers and international events with other researchers and professors.
