The scope of this article will take into consideration a couple of factors which could provide military benefits established by BCI technology. BCI technology is still in development state. That is why this article will mostly provide predictions for near future. Assumptions made for future of this technology are strongly based on current development state of BCI in military field of its design. All military devices described in this article are currently at development state. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency tries to apply BCI technology in military equipment. Their work is also focused on providing help to soldiers who come back from missions with combat injuries. Article will take in consideration safety factor during combat missions, which is essential on battlefield. Most of devices described in this article are being developed to increase this factor.

The paper discussed the effective team-building technologies in engineering education. The relevance of the research is due to academic and industry based research the emphasized the need for competitive engineers who possess professional competencies and personal qualities as well as engineering graduates who need to work on solving complex problems in teams composed of professionals from many disciplines. The paper describes supported by examples how teamwork can be integrated into the curriculum in conjunction with engineering projects and topics. The research emphasize that students need to understand principles and attributes of effective teamwork, practice teamwork, receive feedback on teamwork, and adopt practices of self-monitoring and self-regulation in their teams. The study offers a methodological training system that includes active teaching methods and a more pragmatic approach in teaching students the skills necessary to function as effective and productive team members. Teamwork skills are increasingly being sought when hiring engineering graduates and employers assume they raise the status of an organization in the market and increase its profit by improving the quality of solving interdisciplinary tasks with minimal time costs and maximum productivity. It also motivates employees and facilitates bonding within the company, opportunity to work together in close proximity leads to strong relationships.

In this paper we present an innovative collaborative online platform developed in the context of the EU funded project EPUM (Emerging Perspectives on Urban Morphology: Researching and Learning through multiple practices). The platform attempts to eliminate research and institutional barriers in educational cultures through the development and use of digital resources, structured under Collaborative Learning Activities, a novel concept proposed in this work. CLAs offer an innovative way for collaboration in the education system, by making available resources accessible, not only to those enrolled in higher education programmes, but to anyone wanting to access training regardless of their geographical location, educational culture or ability to travel.

Detecting social vulnerability is a complex process that involves many personal and environmental factors to take into account. In this paper, a new methodology is proposed to detect which individuals are more likely to live under vulnerable situations merging all those personal and environmental factors in one metric. This methodology assigns each person who asks The Red Cross for help different normalized key performance indicators (KPI) regarding several areas as personal, social, health, environmental, economic, labour and familiar. All these fields are combined to represent the person in two axes: the internal or personal vulnerability axis (composed by personal, health and economical indexes) and external axis (composed by environmental, labour, social and familiar indexes). Based on these axes and through unsupervised machine learning techniques, this methodology assigns each person a vulnerability group which may be related with a series of actions to cover their needs and act upon their situation. This way, the proposed methodology allows us to go from a high dimensionality to a reduced problem that considerably simplifies the study. This process permits The Red Cross act quicker in those high-vulnerable or more-likely-vulnerable situations, improving the assistance process and helping the estimation of needed resources.

Nowadays science, technology, engineering and mathematics play a vital role in the development of the whole world. However, despite the huge demand for engineers, children aged 10 to 14 (especially girls) are not eager to pursuit careers in these fields. Vast majority of kids assume that remarkable intelligence is required to do so and thus do not try to develop in this direction. The novel teaching methods can contribute to improve the attitudes and to increase the levels of performance of the students and thus to boost students interest toward STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) careers. The paper tries to identify the root causes of this conviction and proposes a solution which makes use of the newest IT technologies, such as smart city and helps in eradicating this stereotype. Lack of motivation and low self-esteem were identified as the main factors that created this belief.

To set the content and scope of math and ICT education appropriately is very important to achieve stated objectives of both training and education, and keeping, and also enhancing, quality performance of the work activities of the graduates of the study specialization in the field of transport and car repair. In the paper there is described an analysis, done by the authors, aim of which was to assess coincidence of the current content of the state and school education programs of secondary vocational schools with the needs and requirements of employers in the transport and motor-car repair sector regarding the math and ICT competences of their potential employees (from the point of view of the performance of the professional activities of the employees).

As many concepts in programming are difficult for novices to learn, it can be frustrating for them to stay motivated. For this purpose, alternative approaches like game-based learning can help increase their motivation. sCool is a serious game that supports learning computational skills through conceptual aspects and practicing programming, but is also used in revision activities as it provides an engaging way for students to review their understanding of programming. In a revised version of sCool, we focus on obtaining an improved human-computer interface (HCI) by adapting several interface aspects. Thus, our research goal is to determine the effects of the improved interface on novice student programmers' revision of learning programming, but also how experienced student programmers perceive the interface. In a preliminary study on the revised version of sCool, 11 novice and 9 experienced student programmers played the game and completed a survey providing data to answer the defined research questions. We are able to show that the improved interface has a positive impact on novices' revision of learning programming as well as on the game-play of sCool.

This article aims to introduce the concept of NoSQL, describe the database systems Cassandra and MongoDB, but above all, perform a comparative study (practical) of both systems, on the same dataset. The YCSB benchmark tool is to test different types of operations - reading, writing, and reading and writing - by performing these tests on various workloads, through progressive increases of clients to perform the operations, in order to compare the two solutions in terms of performance. Preliminary results show that Cassandra generally performs better in all types of operations, but it depends more on the capacity in terms of resources of the machine. On the other hand, MongoDB is able to achieve better results in a scenario where hardware resources are lower, with performance levels slightly higher than Cassandra.

We present a colorless transmitter based on a reflective electroabsorption modulator (EAM) monolithically integrated with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). A semi-insulating buried heterostructure (SI-BH) technology is used to define the device waveguide structures. The integration of the SOA allows to fully compensate for insertion losses. We observe up to +2 dB net gain in the fiber-coupled output power, for 90 mA SOA bias current. We demonstrate 25 Gb/s operation with non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation format, with a dynamic extinction ratio (DER) up to 14 dB for 2.6 V peak-to-peak EAM driving voltage. Colorless operation is demonstrated over 15 nm spectral range in the C-band. We achieved 10 km dispersion limited transmission distance at 25 Gb/s NRZ with a penalty of 3 dB at 10(-3) bit error rate (BER).

In multiple ways, neurosurgery is the perfect field for the implementation of robotic assisted procedures. Neurosurgical operations require precise and fine manipulation of deeply located critical neural structures that are accessed through a small corridor. The concept of robots has evolved from "human-like" machines to programmable, multifunctional specialized devices. To this day, the majority of robotic-assisted neurosurgical operations involve a shared-control system. They have involved a robotic arm that moves an instrument to a specific location based on Cartesian coordinates and is then locked in place. The operating neurosurgeon proceeds with the instrument along the path defined by the robot. One of the most important goals is to promote active cooperation between engineers and neurosurgeons. However, unfamiliarity with robot technology and the high costs of maintenance and purchasing the few available robotic systems can discourage their use. Nevertheless, improvements in the quality of healthcare should eventually surpass the inherent costs of robotic surgery systems. While we witness the dawn of artificial intelligence and brain-machine interfaces, neurosurgery and treatment of previously incurable diseases has already surpassed the ideas of science fiction writers. As with every tool created by man, we must ensure as scientists and medical doctors that robotics is used as means to benefits individuals and all of mankind.
