Remote engineering and science laboratories are gaining an increased prominence due to its versatility, ease of use 24/7, most likely open and shared access to any components, setups and instruments, in reconfigurable circuits, and laboratory establishments, including quite unique and expensive ones. The remote laboratories are increasingly shared nationally and internationally mainly with a free access or less so in a pay-for-fee use. Due to the universal time-wise access, human tutoring in remote laboratories, especially synchronous is not realistic. Therefore, an automated support for the students practicing the remote experiments, missing a human tutor is being developed. The system analyses common students' mistakes in the remote laboratory and identifies remedial actions. Students are informed about their mistakes, extracted from learning analytics of the remote laboratory, in order to correct and revoke their actions. The paper reports on learning habits of the students, their backgrounds and their perception of online learning preceding and following the use of the automated tutoring system.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an incurable condition which to the present day is an ailment without any cure. In this disease immune system of the body attacks its own healthy tissues perceiving them as foreign. RA without any cure causes damages to joints which are irreversible and very painful. The only solace to the affected patients who suffer from extreme pain is redemption with a few drugs. Disease onset prediction and further monitoring of disease activity are very crucial stages for *** susceptibility has always had relationship with complex genetic characteristics. The proposed methodology emphasizes on early prediction of rheumatoid arthritis by applying the machine learning technique SVM based on HLA-DRB4 gene sequence and mutation rate. The technique facilitates in early prediction of rheumatoid arthritis by comparing pair-wise DNA nucleotide point mutation on one of the primary RA associated candidate gene HLA-DRB4 (which resides in chromosome location 6) with its mutated gene samples, thus calculating the mutation rate. On the basis of mutation rate value computed the sample bearing individual may be recommended to take up RA susceptibility test. This approach of applying linear kernel SVM machine learning technique on gene data substantially increases the chances of early disease prediction, which will be very beneficial to the healthcare community and people in general which in turn can prevent people from going through extreme pain and handicapped lifestyle as they can know beforehand whether they are prone to get rheumatoid arthritis. © 2023 IEEE.

Educational robotics competitions such as the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) are popular out-of-school learning settings for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, especially Computer Science (CS) education. The aim of this competition (alike many other initiatives) is to prepare students for a life in the digital age by fostering their 21(st) century skills and motivate them to choose a profession the field of STEM. Regardless, many initiatives fail to monitor their impact. In 2019, the organizers of the WRO conducted an impact evaluation study in collaboration with the CS education group of the University of Wurzburg to address this issue. In this article we present the results of this evaluation study regarding the students' learning of 21(st) century skills.

The ubiquitous growth of smartphones with uninterrupted connectivity offers immense scope for delivering quality second language education in developing countries, especially in India. Though mobile learning has huge potential in India, there is little research on Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). The present paper studies the role of MALL in enhancing English language skills among engineering students and examines a) effectiveness and viability of smartphones for second language listening b) issues and challenges faced by learners and teachers, and c) perceptions of stakeholders. A quasi experimental study for over a semester was conducted with an experimental group (n = 59) who brought their own devices (BYOD) and a control group (n = 60) who used desktop computers in the language lab. The participants were undergraduate students of engineering belonging to a college affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada in India. The analysis of the scores revealed a statistically significant difference in the performance of the experimental group. The perceptions of stakeholders were collected through questionnaire and focus group discussions. The study witnessed a positive impact on the participants in enhancing participants' L2 listening skills and improved motivation towards learning L2 listening. The results of the study have implications for teachers and practitioners of mobile assisted language learning.

The conceptual provisions of professional retraining and advanced training of educators of engineering universities have been formulated. It is shown that the system of pedagogical competencies is a main indicator of the activities of a modern educator. Requirements for the competencies of educators of engineering universities are formulated in accordance with the criteria of the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy ("Internationale Geselschaft fur Ingenieur Padagogik"/"International Society for Engineering Pedagogy" (IGIP)). It is shown that the professional and pedagogical competence of a university's educator is an ability to apply knowledge, skills, personal, social and methodological skills in an educational or work situation in professional and personal development is the result of the development and assignment of universal, general professional and special professional competencies to students. Engineering pedagogy is presented as the basis of the system of professional retraining and advanced training of educators;the main trends of its development are outlined. The goals, content and structure of the professional-pedagogical activity of educators are considered, the priority components of their professionalism are identified. The advantages of the proposed organization of vocational retraining and further training for educators of engineering colleges and the organizational and pedagogical conditions ensuring the effectiveness of their vocational and pedagogical training have been identified.

Coding platforms provide challenges for users to solve in order to improve their programming skills, utilizing elements of both Technology Enhanced Learning and gamification. Inspired by previous approaches, this article presents a coding platform focused on competition, and its evaluation in the context of tertiary programming education. The system provides programming challenges for two users to compete against each other in real time. We seek to answer the question whether this notion of one-on-one competition can increase motivation to solve programming tasks. Two user studies were conducted in order to evaluate the effects of the system's competitive component on users' self-assessment, enjoyment, and motivation. The results of these studies suggest that this kind of competitive environment in programming leads to learners assessing themselves more distinctively, while their enjoyment decreases. Furthermore, learners' motivation drops in competition with others, although it remains on a high level. Learners who already achieved a relatively high level of programming knowledge are generally more inclined to enjoy competitive game components in programming. We conclude that competition in programming education does not necessarily have solely positive effects on learners' experiences. The inclusion of competition in tertiary computer science education might prove to be useful, but further research needs to be conducted to identify the best way of integrating it into educational concepts.

Object detection is challenging in the computer vision area and is crucial in autonomous driving systems. The largest number of traditional techniques or the use of deep learning are evaluated in the urban area, but in rural areas, there is little research carried out. The goal of this work is object detection in rural roads, this paper presents the use of deep learning frameworks used as You Only Look Once (YOLO) and another that belongs to the same category of one-stage is the well-known Single Shot Multi-Box Detector (SSD), in the state of the literature, produces excellent results in detecting objects in real-time. These models behave differently in network architecture, for this reason, we use images of rural roads with different environments to achieve an optimal balance between precision and precision in the detection of objects. Furthermore, as there is no dataset in these environments, we created our own data set to perform the experiments due to the difficulty of this problem. The result of both detectors has produced acceptable results under certain conditions like lighting conditions, viewing perspectives, partial occlusion of the object.

This paper discusses a multi-method Pre-test focusing on students' attitudes and preferences towards collaborative, interactive and blended-learning courses in an intercultural setting. These courses were developed and taught in the context of a project funded by the Baden-Wiirttemberg-STIPENDIUM for University Students - BWS plus programme, a programme of the Baden-Wiirttemberg Stiftung. The project promotes collaboration between Dr. Ambedkar University (AUD) in Delhi, India, and Ludwigsburg University of Education (LUE), Germany. In this paper, we present a critical reflection on the initial stages of the collaborative, interactive and blended courses taught as part of the project, using a triangulation pre-test that combines the methods of quantitative evaluation research and qualitative interviews. By doing so, our study assesses current practice and analyzes the above-mentioned courses closely and in detail, thus seeking to investigate how students deal with a collaborative and blended-learning environment, especially in an intercultural, international and digital setting.

The Robot Operating System (ROS) is the current de-facto standard in robot middlewares. The steadily increasing size of the user base results in a greater demand for training as well. User groups range from students in academia to industry professionals with a broad spectrum of developers in between. To deliver high quality training and education to any of these audiences, educators need to tailor individual curricula for any such training. In this paper, we present an approach to ease compiling curricula for ROS trainings based on a taxonomy of the teaching contents. The instructor can select a set of dedicated learning units and the system will automatically compile the teaching material based on the dependencies of the units selected and a set of parameters for a particular training. We walk through an example training to illustrate our work.
