In urban areas, building rooftops are used for PV system installation for commercial or individual household purposes. An accurate solar map is essential to determine the amount of solar radiation falling on the rooftop of a building for PV installation. This study focuses on developing a methodology on how to configure a Drone to capture imageries for extracting features that are useful in assessing sun-exposed building rooftops. The focus is also to develop a geospatial model using GeoAI for processing Drone images and DSM to delineate actual solar exposed rooftops. Then, the model output was evaluated and compared with the existing models. The study was designed using DSR principles to develop software artifacts, a workflow model, and evaluation methods. This study provides a novel approach by combining image classifications using GeoAI for information extraction from Drone images for practical utility purposes. The study fulfilled the three research objectives. First, a flying configuration of a Drone to capture imagery for DSM creation. Second, the study fulfilled the development of a geospatial model using the DSM and GeoAI algorithm for delineating sun-exposed building rooftop. Third, this study evaluated the output of the model efficiency and reliability to determine whether this model can be used for enhancing the existing solar maps available from the government or other agencies. The utility of this model is a relevant topic in the shared economy research community, and no studies so far are focused designing a process that can create or augment inexpensive solar maps from Drone images. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Elevated helipads at hospitals may have a diverse structure and location- depending on the possibilities of the hospital and its environment. The Vibroacoustics Laboratory of the Institute of Aviation performed the measurement of the vibration properties of several helipads of varying degrees of construction. The purpose of the research was to determine the vibration properties of the elevated helipads and to try to estimate the impact of a helicopter’s landing and taking-off on the building on which it was placed. This paper presents some results of measurements including comparing measurements made during landing and take-off of the helicopter and those excited with an impulse, carried out for two elevated helipads. The goal was to estimate (model) the impact of the helicopter on a helipad construction at the stage of its design and construction in the range of low frequency (up to 100 Hz). © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Augmented reality is eligible to be used in educational environments, and many applications successfully apply it to improve learning. It provides new possibilities for different spheres of education, but in these environments it is not yet investigated in its entirety. This paper's objective is to present experience with utilization of augmented reality in professional skills training at a secondary technical school and to discuss its advantages and limits.

A modeling method is introduced in this paper to evaluate the fingerclick interactive task in the virtual environment. The problem that the fingerclick interactive task in the virtual environment currently cannot be quantitatively evaluated has been solved. The method mainly includes five processes: analysis, decomposition, configuration, acquisition, and evaluation. The proposal of this method can help relevant practitioners design the interactive process of user's finger-click interactive task in the virtual environment more scientifically, optimize the interactive efficiency.

The paper presents application of the active synthesis method for determining parameters of identified drive systems of machines together with parameters of active reduction of vibration. The presented method uses the comparative synthesis method to determine the parameters of vibration reduction. This research project presents the activities of a `relaxed performance' in the Segal Centre for the Performing Arts, situated in Montreal, Canada, to understand how transforming the environment supports both performers and audiences alike. It proceeds with four phases, embracing a participatory approach. A particularly innovative aspect of this project was the composition of a research team that included the researchers, Segal Centre employees, local community partners and cultural groups, and rehabilitation research centres in the greater Montreal area. The outcomes of this project are theatre-specific adaptations that will benefit the Centre for all future events. They include changes to the physical aspects of the environment, the security within the theatre space itself, the development of a tactile map as an accessibility technology, a linguistically accessible information pamphlet and audio description to provide auditory-access to the visual elements of the performance.

The objective is to create and program a demonstration of a manipulator arm that is capable of detecting objects, distinguishing between them, and relocating target objects to corresponding locations. The experiments are carried out to evaluate and improve the arm's design, and to gather preliminary data from the sensors to better program the system's behavior. The proposed manipulation system design makes the robot arm capable of performing a predetermined series of object relocation tasks with or without outside (human) commands from an unknown initial state. During the experiments, the performance of the robotic manipulation system is compared between two separate sensing conditions: (i) use of an ultrasonic sensor alone, and (ii) use of an ultrasonic sensor plus a light sensor. The human operator has a varying role in the manipulation. The operator may reset system inputs, put command, observe the operation, and collaborate with the system as a complementary performer or co-worker when the system needs human's support. A survey is conducted to determine the potential human involvement and human factors associated with the manipulation system, which helps determine and vary the autonomy levels of the system. Then, an experiment is conducted to determine the autonomy levels of the system based on assessing the varying contribution of the human operator. A supervised learning approach is then proposed that may learn from previous events, predict required autonomy levels for future events, and thus may help maintain appropriate autonomy levels with task requirements. The results may help develop intelligent robotic manipulation systems in industries that may work independently or in collaboration with human workers with varying levels of autonomy.

In Latin American countries, it has been noticed that a high percentage of university students experience negative feelings such as fear, rejection, and inadequate beliefs about the contents taught in statistical courses, resulting in avoidant behaviors towards their learning and student's low performance. The majority of students are able to obtain the minimum grade required to pass the subject, but, in the end, they do not obtain significant knowledge. This fact has caused many professions in Latin American countries, especially those related to social and human sciences, to show a scientific delay. It is identifiable by the low rankings achieved by these countries in scientific production. In this context, this work focuses on the solutions that computer science offers and must be considered to improve the experience of learning statistics. In this sense, misconceptions, avoidant behaviors, and negative beliefs towards learning statistics, would be reverted for students and future professionals, as well as the improvement of inappropriate emotional reactions about learning statistical skills. Thanks to technological advances, for example, applications and social networks, which nowadays determine Latin American university student's daily-life behavior.

The ethics of qualitative research are a reflection of the different procedures and tools that characterise this type of research. Due to its characteristic features (Wiles 2012) and its circular and interactive nature (Rodríguez et al. 2005), ethical problems continuously arise throughout the entire qualitative research process. There are certain ethical considerations that are common to both qualitative and quantitative research. However, in the field of social science where qualitative research techniques are more frequently applied, these ethical issues are considerably complex given that researchers are influenced by a number of aspects intrinsic to the nature of the human phenomena being researched and which affect decisions regarding technical and procedural matters, information management and even dissemination. This situation influences the expertise, ethical quality and commitment of the researcher in relation to the generation and analysis of the materials upon which the work is based and improving the understanding by the scientific community of the phenomenon studied (Aspers and Corte 2019). Qualitative researchers face a number of issues and challenges to ensure they carry out their research work in line with the principles expected of them relating to qualitative research, which are closely related to ethical values (Guba and Lincoln 1981). © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
