Network motifs have been widely used in the analysis of various biological networks, including protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks, transcription regulation networks (TRNs), and metabolic networks. Counting network motif involves expensive enumeration of sub-patterns and graph isomorphism. Many protein-protein interaction data-bases are readily available online and are constantly updated over a period of time by either adding or removing proteins and the respective interactions between them. There exists many motif enumeration algorithms that can be applied to protein-protein interaction databases. However, most existing algorithms run enumeration over the entire network every time a change is made to the network. This is not only computationally expensive but also highly inefficient as the size of the network and motif increases. In this work, we propose an exact and efficient algorithm for enumerating network motifs by utilizing only updated edges and vertices in a network. We demonstrate how our algorithm can quickly and robustly update the frequency of different sizes of network motifs in dynamic networks. Experimental results show that our approach is successful in reducing the computational time by eliminating overlapped subgraphs. Run-time monitoring of network motif distributions is very important in numerous practical domains where large networks are subject to localized changes, which is efficiently provided by the proposed algorithm. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

For cancer treatment, microwave thermotherapy method is widely used especially for liver cancer treatment by using a coaxial biomedical applicator device. This device is used to transfer heat from microwave generator to liver tissue in order to kill cancerous tissue. Neglecting the impedance matching between the applicator and the liver tissue can lead power reflection to the power supply or loss into the surrounding healthy tissue. The impedance of the applicator is hugely dependent on the structure and dielectric material used as the insulator for the biomedical applicator. In this work, we aim to study the best structure of the applicator, which can minimize the impedance mismatch. There are two phases required in order to achieve the aim. In first phase, parameter of the applicator has been estimated using the characteristic of impedance for coaxial structure. In phase two, the biomedical coaxial applicator is designed using the electromagnetic simulator software and the results were analyzed to identify the best parameter used for the design. The result of return loss obtained at 2.45 GHz is −25.42 dB with impedance of 21.23 Ω. From the value of return loss, 0.29% of power will be reflected to the generator or surrounding tissue while another 99.71% of power will be transmitted into the cancer cell. Based on the finding, most power is transmitted efficiently to the liver and less power is reflected to the surrounding which means it is harmless to the surrounding tissue. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The main objective of this research project is to explore the behavioral aspects of the potential users of RSIM use with regard to health and security risks. It has been found that the importance of ethical reasons for implementing RSIM pattern increased by age. On the other hand, the social acceptance and the government requirements have no effects on the choice of the microchip implant. The study found that there is high likelihood of the subject accepting the microchip implant if it's useful and the subject of older age. Subjects believed that the implantable microchip will never be secure for the identity protection. Furthermore, the older subjects the more probability that the subject will use the implantable microchips, if they had ownership of their own data. In fact, it was found that usefulness of RIMS is correlated with ownership of the data.

Many students have difficulty learning computer programming languages. Programming is a skill that requires a lot of practice, not just theory. Students are required to have the ability to all processes;analyze problems, design algorithms, translate algorithms into program code, and write program code with the correct syntax. The number of time students spend coding is the factor that has the highest impact on their programming skills. A basic programming lab work is implemented to increase students' programming skills with a lot of practice writing a code directly. Providing feedback on programming assignments is an integral part of a class on basic programming and requires substantial effort with personal teaching. It is needed an automatic assessment tool that can help the task of lecturers in evaluating assignments. Performance evaluation is one of the basics to monitor the progress of student performance. Grouping students according to their level of performance makes it easy for lecturers to monitor student performance levels and can provide learning according to the abilities of students in these groups. The clustering is used to group students based on the point of each lab work. The classification method used is K-Means Clustering. The cluster describes groups of students according to their performance. Based on the results of a case study with 31 students, it clusters students into 3 groups: 39% of people are in moderate ability, 45% of people have high abilities, and 16% of people are students whose programming abilities are still lacking system. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Portfolio diversification has long been known and prevalent as a risk minimization method. The goal of this work is to develop a model to use Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm to create an investment portfolio with optimal risk-return ratio. The initial set of equities we propose to be selected using Self-Organizing Maps (SOM). We have highlighted the set of factors to use as input variables for SOM. When the equities in portfolio is defined, we need to decide the proportion of our capital distributed among the portfolio equities. For this task we employ the GWO algorithm, which let us find the optimal weights assignment along the portfolio shares based on Mean-Variance portfolio minimization condition. As we know the Variance and Mean respectively express the Risk and Return rating of portfolio. Our research investigates the sensitivity of the GWO algorithm to number of iterations, wolf herd size and shares weight limits. Just knowing these parameters best values, we can expect for optimal portfolio diversification. The model verification was performed on stocks from S&P500 index. The GWO was applied for determining the weights for portfolio equities to get optimal risk-return ratio. The comparison of GWO balanced portfolio performance with the direct investment to S&P500 index, let us conclude the advantage of our proposed model. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Covid-19 seems to exacerbate many pre-existing conditions, including the frequent mismatch between humanity’s advanced data and communication technologies and the primitive behavioral programs sometimes applied to use and interpret them. In fact, evolution has equipped people with advanced endogenous cognitive, decision, data, and communication capabilities fully up to the challenge—if only we recognize and use them. In this paper, we present a framework for better understanding and employing the advanced cognitive, decision, data, and communication capabilities in humanity and applying them to the Covid-19 pandemic in the hopes of fostering development and deployment of calmer, more coherent and effective strategies we can all sleep with at night. E0 algorithm is the most popular which used for data transmission Bluetooth communication among devices. E0 is having a 128-bit of symmetric stream cipher key length. Many types of attacks at Bluetooth protocol and cryptanalysis of E0 has proved that it would be broken by using 264 operations. In this work, we have proposed hybrid encryption based on blowfish and md5 algorithms to im-prove the security of transferring data between two computers connected using Bluetooth technique. Because of the advantages of key management of the MD5 algorithm, we used it to encrypt the secret key of Blowfish algorithm which used for encryption of plaintext. Air pollution occurs due to presence of harmful gases like dust and smoke. Inhaling these gases leads to health problem. The inhaling of dust leads to breathing problems and lung issues which are of major concern in human life. The green house gases like synthetic chemicals present due to emission of human activities. The major green house gases are carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, water vapor, ozone, methane, and nitrous oxide. Greenhouse gases absorb infrared radiation. Air pollution is monitored by Governments and various local agencies. The prime responsibility of the proposed system is to detect the concentrations of major air pollutant gases that are present in the air which cause harm to humans. Air pollution detection is developed using IoT for detecting pollutant gases using MQ2 and MQ135 sensors. The gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), ethyl alcohol, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2) will be detected using these sensors. The detected parameters are analyzed using machine learning (ML) algorithms to estimate air quality. The ecosystem developed helps in learning correlation among gases. "On-Shelf Availability" (OSA) or "Out of Stock" (OOS) in a store is a key factor for customer satisfaction. Shelf availability is a critical issue for both manufacturers and retailers, fixing it improves consumer value, fosters consumer brand loyalty and shopper loyalty to the store, increases sales, and most importantly, increases the profitability of the category. Likewise, the logistics rationalization in the supply chain is a key factor for the profitability of the business. The present research establishes an OSA methodology that through the reception and replacement processes with Category Management (CATMAN) will increase profits and the level of customer satisfaction, also achieving a better inventory. From January to October 2019, the percentage of OSA was raised from 78.3% to 92.4%. This methodology can be applied to different supermarkets, adapting CATMAN to avoid OOS.

GenExSt: A Tool to Identify Correlation of Gene Expression After Normalization with Housekeeping Genes 1

Interaction between genes is one driving force that can influence a biological outcome. In a genetic disease such as cancer, understanding genetic interactions may help us elucidate mechanisms sustaining cancer growth. A computational approach is one way to detect genetic interactions in the context of cancer. In this article, we introduce a tool, GenExSt, and its underlying method to study gene interactions. We applied our method to discover gene-pairs whose expressions demonstrate patterns of correlation. For this demonstration, we selected ten breast cancer gene expression data sets from the Genomic Data Commons Data Portal through National Cancer Institute. We focused on genes that suppress genome instability, or instability suppressing genes (GIS), many of which play an important role in cancer. We applied our method to an inter-comparison across data sets. Here we tested statistical normalization approaches derived from the combined expressions of randomly selected, single, housekeeping (HK) genes, and from the calculated mean of three expressions. In addition, our method derives R2 values from linear models in which the expressions of all possible pairs of GIS genes are placed in a linear model to produce heatmaps to indicate probable correlations. We show that results from our method are suited to normalized data, extracted from multiple genes simultaneously, rather than using single gene expression values. GenExSt may be used to study gene expression data in other settings provided that the concept of gene interactions is appropriate in the context. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
