A new technique for discrimination between Parkinsonian tremor and essential tremor is investigated in this paper. The method is based on spectral analysis of both accelerometer and surface EMG signals with neural networks. The discrimination system consists of two parts: feature extraction part and classification (distinguishing) part. The feature extraction part uses the method of approximate spectral density estimation of the data by implementing the wavelet-based soft decision technique. In the classification part, a machine learning approach is implemented using back-propagation supervised neural network. The data has been recorded for diagnostic purposes in the Department of Neurology of the University of Kiel, Germany. Two sets of data are used. The training set, which consists of 21 essential-tremor (ET) subjects and 19 Parkinson-disease (PD) subjects, is used to obtain the important features used for distinguishing between the two subjects. The test data set, which consists of 20 ET and 20 PD subjects, is used to test the technique and evaluate its performance.

Popular E-commerce systems such as Amazon and eBay require customer personal data to be stored on their servers for serving these customers with personalized recommendations. Collaborative filtering is one of the most successful technologies for building personalized recommender systems, and is extensively used in many personalized E-commerce systems. However, existing collaborative filtering algorithms have been suffering from data sparsity and scalability problems which lead to inaccuracy of recommendation. With the increase of customers and commodities, the customer rating data is extremely sparse, which leads to the low efficient collaborative filtering E-commerce recommendation system. To address these issues, many approaches of processing no-rated items in collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm have been proposed. In order to improve the quality of the personalized collaborative filtering recommendation, an item-based collaborative filtering approach employing folksonomy method is given. The approach uses the folksonomy technology to fill the no-rated items in the collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm.

Blind source separation problem has recently drawn a lot of attention in unsupervised neural learning. In the current approaches, the additive noise is negligible so that it can be omitted from the consideration. To be applicable in realistic scenarios, blind source separation approaches should deal evenly with the presence of noise. In this contribution, the covariance of noise was foregone, a noisy multiple channels blind source separation algorithm was proposed based on neural network and independent component. At prewhitening, the data have no noise was used to whiten the noisy data, and the windage wipe off technique was used to correct the infection of noise, a neural network model having denoise capability was adopted to realize the multiple channels blind source separation method for mixing images corrupter with white noise. The result shows that this method may reduce the affect of noise and improve the signal-noise ratio (SNR) of separation images, accordingly renew the original images.

Support Vector Machines provide a well established and powerful classification method to analyse data and find the minimal-risk separation between different classes. Finding that separation strongly depends on the available feature set. Feature selection and SVM parameters optimization methods improve classification accuracy. This paper studies their joint optimization and attribution improvement. A comparison was made using genetic algorithms to find the best parameters for SVM classification. Results show that using the RBF kernel returns better results on average, though the best optimization for some data sets is highly dependent on the choice of parameters and kernels. We also show that, overall, an average 26% relative improvement with 8% std was obtained.
