Supporting the idea of the semantic web, we developed a Semantic Stored Procedures (SSP) programming environment for the Oracle11g database, similar to the existing ones, available for the stored procedures in the relational databases. This show-case SSP-environment supports the basic test/store/execute/remove scenarios for sem_match-queries, but is also a quite extensive system. An eclipse plug-in that provides a GUI for these operations and java API which helps programmers to use the SSP-call functionality were released in the package with the Oracle11g SSP-extension. The performances of our system are comparable (much better in most of the cases) with the existing adapters, as shown with the measurements in comparison with the well-known Jena adapter. Thus, a complete development environment for SSP-programming is now available and the semantic query management, as a simple concatenation of strings inside the code, seems to becoming just a forgotten nightmare of our semantic web programmer's life.

Agent-based negotiation teams are groups of two or more interdependent agents with their own and possibly conflicting goals that join together as a single negotiating party because they share a common goal that is related to the negotiation. In this paper we present a general workflow of tasks for agents that participate in a negotiation team. Furthermore, we focus on the study of intra-team organizations, which define the roles played by team members, what decisions are taken by the team, and how and when they are taken, and the negotiation strategy carried out with the opponent. The performance of the proposed organizations is tested in environmental scenarios where team diversity is different.

The generalized minimum spanning tree problem is a natural extension of the classical minimum spanning tree problem, looking for a tree with minimum cost, spanning exactly one node from each of a given number of predefined, mutually exclusive and exhaustive node sets. In this paper we present a memetic algorithms for solving the generalized minimum spanning tree problem that combines the population concept of genetic algorithms with a fast local improvement method. The proposed algorithm is competitive with other heuristics published to date in both solution quality and computation time. The computational results for several benchmarks problems are reported and the results point out that the memetic algorithm is an appropriate method to explore the search space of this complex problem and leads to good solutions in a reasonable amount of time.

This paper reports on work in progress on a prototype information dissemination and management system for a hierarchical military command structure. Each unit is provided with a suite of services that integrates three paradigms for collaboration, communicates with its neighbors, and directs its immediate subordinates. This paper emphasizes concepts largely ignored but critical for shared situation awareness. As a prerequisite for coordination, we focus on common knowledge. Something is common knowledge in a group if not only does everyone in the group know it but also everyone knows that everyone knows it. Constraints on inter-unit communication motivated using, in one unit's services, proxy agents for its subordinate units. This use of proxies amounts to a version of the psychological concept of theory of mind (the ability to attribute to others mental states often conflicting with our own), seen as a mechanism for achieving common knowledge.

Thermal efficiency monitoring allows us evaluating the performance of thermal engines which operates under the Rankine cycle. In this research work, massive application of backpropagation neural networks (BPNN) is used with the aim of evaluating the thermal efficiency of processes operating under the Rankine cycle with various working fluids. Knowing the thermal efficiency behavior allows us estimating the best working fluid as well as the optimal operating temperatures for which thermal efficiency is maximized. Achieving mentioned objectives requires a critic modeling task in which massive application of BPNNs are applied. The required information to train the BPNNs is achieved from the NIST database. With such monitoring method, the way to improving the efficiency results a simple reliable task.

This paper presents a novel, mash-up web service amending the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) objects' presentation. It is designed to be used on its own or as complementary visualization in Learning Management Systems (LMS) or other SCORM runtimes. As a proof-of-concept, a SpicyNodes-geared radial visualization of the extracted semantic-, keyword-, and index structures is built by parsing the objects' internal content and activities organizations, Learning Object Metadata (LOM) notations, HTML's content, structuring tags, hyperlinks and metadata.

Nowadays, there is consensus on the fact that the sustainability, in which the international political debate constitute one of the most powerful concepts, opens entirely new opportunities for reaching higher levels of development. Sustainability development means making sure the social, economic and environmental needs of current generations are met and kept healthy for future generations. Increasing importance of sustainable development has lead eco-efficiency to find a specific position in literature. Efficiency is an index that measures management ability in optimal use of inputs for generating outputs. A unit can be more efficient if it produces 1) the same outputs with fewer inputs 2) more or better outputs for the same inputs. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is one of the power efficient evaluation methods. In this paper, a new method is proposed for appraising eco-efficiency of manufacturing factories based on an extended DEA approach. The advantage of this model in contrast with current models in eco-efficiency is that DM can keep in perfect control the dispersal of weights. Finally, a case study is implemented by using simulated data in order to evaluate proposed model.

This paper discusses the problems in the design of teacher's training as a form of professional development. The research is focused on design of support tools for teachers helping them to apply in effective way digital technologies in their practice. The complexity of such instructional design goal contributed to design of fuzzy logic based model. On its base was developed expert system (ES) to support decisions during the course design. In this paper we present the experts methodology for knowledge formalization. Further we describe the theoretical framework including main components in the model, their characteristics and relations. Implemented prototype of the fuzzy logic based expert system Open Virtual World (OVW) is presented, as well.

This paper presents an augmented Lagrangian algorithm to solve continuous constrained global optimization problems. The algorithm approximately solves a sequence of bound constrained subproblems whose objective function penalizes equality and inequality constraints violation and depends on the Lagrange multiplier vectors and a penalty parameter. Each subproblem is solved by a population-based method that uses an electromagnetism-like mechanism to move points towards optimality. Benchmark problems are solved in a performance evaluation of the proposed augmented Lagrangian methodology. A comparison with a well-known technique is also reported.
