The quality of study programmes in higher education is essential for the education of graduates with a high level of knowledge in the subject field. Many factors influence the quality of study programmes, such as curriculum design, available human and material resources, and continual improvement and innovation according to the recent advancements in the field. According to standards for quality assurance in higher education area, improvement of study programme quality should involve all relevant stakeholders, especially graduated students, employers and organizations from the professional field. Establishing and maintaining connections to the stakeholders is a challenging job for higher education institutions. This paper describes a possible solution to information system for tracking information about graduated students - alumni, and its possible contribution to improvement and innovation of study programmes.

The phenomenon of Jumping genes was initially discovered by Nobel Laureate, Barbara McClintock, in her work on maize chromosome in fifties. The Jumping genes transpose from one position to another in horizontal fashion within the same chromosome or even to other chromosomes. In this paper, it is to present how this genetic transposition, after transforming into a computational method, can enhance the evolutionary multiobjective optimization. The fundamental concept, design of operations, performance justification and applications of the Jumping Gene evolutionary approach will be outlined.

We present an approach to social grocery shopping based on customers trading information about item prices and quantities in order for the customers to find the lowest prices for the goods they purchase and the most convenient plan for buying them. Because collecting and reporting prices is tedious, agents representing customers are needed to make this approach practical. Agents also have the potential to learn which other agents can be trusted. We use a realistic shopping list based on the U.S. Consumer Price Index in order to guarantee the realism of our results. By visiting actual grocery markets and comparing prices, we have discovered that the total cost of a list of groceries can vary by 13%. We have also discovered that by shopping optimally, that is, buying each item from the cheapest store, the result can be a savings of 16% over shopping at the store with the lowest total cost. To shop at minimum cost requires customers' agents to report prices to each other. If they do, each customer is likely to achieve at least a 10% savings. However, what if the reported prices are inaccurate? Would customers be worse off than if they just shopped randomly? We investigated the robustness of our multiagent shopping system in the presence of errors in reported prices. From this, we determine the potential savings an average customer might obtain.

Transport companies in many cases have to evaluate their competitiveness, comparing it with that of their competitors. Usually this assessment is performed through one or more indices representing facility performances, derived from a set of indicators relevant to problem representation. If the aim is to estimate the user evaluation for the service offered by a facility, the development of a synthetic index can be difficult since user's choice is often characterized by significant uncertainties and it is not always governed by certain rules and rational behaviour, so that it could not be easily and explicitly represented by traditional mathematical techniques and models. Such uncertainties in the relationship between indicator values and facility attractiveness can be properly defined by explicitly specifying them in an approximate way using fuzzy sets theory. In this paper an innovative approach for the classification of Transport Facilities is proposed. The method is based on a Fuzzy Inference System and may be employed both as a benchmarking/ranking procedure and as a decision support tool to evaluate future scenarios as a result of facilities remodelling.

In this paper we investigated Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) based Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) by using limited Arabic vocabulary corpora. These limited Arabic vocabulary subsets are digits and vowels carried by specific carrier words. In addition to this, Hidden Markov Model (HMM) based ASR systems are designed and compared to ANN based systems by using the same corpora. All systems are isolated word speech recognizers. The ANN based recognition system achieved 99.5% correct digit recognition. On the other hand, the HMM based recognition system achieved 98.1% correct digit recognition. With vowels carrier words, the ANN based recognition system achieved 92.13% correct vowel recognition;but the HMM based recognition system achieved 91.6% correct vowel recognition.

This research presents an efficient hybrid approach based on softcomputing techniques and the finite element method for the design of mechanical systems. The use of non-linear finite element models to design mechanical systems provides solutions that are consistent with experimental results;but this use is often limited in practice by a high computational cost. In order to reduce this cost, we propose a linear finite element model that replaces the non-linear elements of the mechanical system with beam and plate elements of equivalent stiffness that are adjusted by means of genetic algorithms. Thus, the adjusted linear model behaves in the same way as the non-linear model, but with a much lower computational cost, which would allow to redesign any mechanical system in a more efficient and faster way. A case study demonstrates the validity of this methodology as applied to the design of a tapered roller bearing.

Hotter electrocardiographic (ECG) recordings are ambulatory long-term registers that are used to detect heart diseases. These recordings normally include more than one channel and their durations are up to 24 hours. The principal problem of the cardiologists is the manual inspection of the whole Holter ECG in order to find all those beats which morphologically differ from the normal beats. In this paper we present our method. Firstly, we apply a grid clustering technique. Secondly, we use a special density-based clustering algorithm, named Optics. Then we visualize every heart beat in the record, heartbeats in a cluster, furthermore we represent every cluster with median of heartbeats. We can perform manual. With this method the ECG is easily analyzed and the time of processing is optimized.
