Methods of cluster analysis are well known techniques of multi-variate analysis used for many years. Their main applications concern clustering objects characterized by quantitative variables. For this case various coefficients for clustering evaluation and determination of cluster numbers have been proposed. However, in some areas, i.e., for segmentation of Internet users, the variables are often nominal or ordinal as their origin in questionnaire responses. That is why we are dealing with the evaluation criteria for the case of categorical variables here. The criteria based on variability measures are proposed. Instead of variance as a measure for quantitative variables, three measures for nominal variables are considered: the variability measure based on a modal frequency, Gini's coefficient of mutability, and the entropy. The proposed evaluation criteria are applied to a real-dataset.

The purpose of this article is to present the application of neural network for modeling electric discharge machining process. This article highlights the various aspects of neural network modeling with specific regard to EDM process. Experimental data has been used to train the neural network by back-propagation. Prediction ability of the trained model has been verified experimentally and the reported results indicate that proposed neural network model can successfully predict the output for a given set of input.

Affective computing - machine's ability to recognize and simulate human affects - has become a main research field for Human Computer Interaction. This paper deal with emotion recognition within a CBST (Computer Based Speech Therapy System) for preschoolers and young schoolchildren. Identifying the emotions of children with speech disorders during the assisted therapy sessions requires an adaptation of classical recognition techniques. That is why, in our article we focus on finding and testing the best emotion representation model to be used in this narrow field. An experiment that validates our proposed approach and indicates the probabilistic coefficient matrix is also presented. The proposed emotion recognition framework can be seen as a future extension of our CBST - Logomon.

This paper introduces a hybrid scheme that combines the advantages of deep belief network and support vector machine. An application of intrusion detection imaging has been chosen and hybridization scheme have been applied to see their ability and accuracy to classify the intrusion into two outcomes: normal or attack, and the attacks fall into four classes;R2L, DoS, U2R, and Probing. First, we utilize deep belief network to reduct the dimensionality of the feature sets. This is followed by a support vector machine to classify the intrusion into five outcome;Normal, R2L, DoS, U2R, and Probing. To evaluate the performance of our approach, we present tests on NSL-KDD dataset and show that the overall accuracy offered by the employed approach is high.

This work presents a software tool for interactive visualization and enhanced evaluation of the carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), based on MRI. CTS is one of the most common peripheral neuropathies due to the compression of the median nerve. The software provides a fully scalable real-time 3D reconstruction of the tendons and the median nerve, allowing multiplanar reformatting, realistic visualization of the integrity of myelin sheath, and color enhancement, without the use of contrast agents. Provided metrics and measurement tools for different parameters, including median nerve location, size, flattening, but also nerve adjacency and local deformation shape measures were also evaluated and the results are presented.

The design of an optimized logic circuit that implements a desired Boolean function is of interest. Optimization can be performed in terms of different objectives. They include optimizing the number of gates, the number of levels, the number of transistors of the circuit, etc. In this paper, we describe an approach using genetic programming to optimize a given Boolean function concerning the above mentioned objectives. Instead of commonly used set of gates, i.e. {AND, OR, NOT, XOR}, we use the universal NAND gates which lead to a faster and more compact circuit. The traditional gate minimization techniques produce simplified expressions in the two standard forms: sum of products (SOP) or product of sums (POS). The SOP form can be transformed to a NAND expression by a routine, but the transformation does not lead to optimized circuit;neither in terms of the number of gates, nor the number of levels. Experimental results show our approach produces better results compared to transforming the SOP form to the NAND expression, with respect to the number of gates, levels and transistors of the circuit.

To foster the adoption of agent-based solutions by the users, this paper describes a model where software agents figure as a new Cloud computing service which would represent clients in virtual environments. Thanks to e-infrastructures, researchers can collaborate, communicate, share resources, access remote equipment or computers and produce results as effectively as if they and the resources they require were physically co-located. However, to properly achieve those results, community-oriented e-science environments are required. E-sciences ask for developing user-friendly interfaces, which sophisticated implementations are also known as science gateway. The science gateway is important component of many large-scale Earth, astronomical, environmental and natural disasters science projects. Developing the sciences portals and the science gateways is coverage of requirements of large scale sciences such as Earth science, astronomy and all sciences which are using grid, cloud or cluster computing and high-performance computing infrastructure. The paper shows the main position of visualization in Science Gateway and describes architecture of the Visualization Tool (VT), for astrophysics simulations and shows some examples. VT is integrated in the web portal, as is e-science gateway for astronomy and astrophysics.

This paper presents a novel approach that relies on the innovative idea of Reason-able View of the Web of linked data applied to the domain of cultural heritage. We describe an application of data integration based on Semantic Web technologies and the methods necessary to create an integrated semantic knowledge base composed of real museum data that are interlinked with data from the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud. Thus, creating an infrastructure to allow for easy extension of the domain specific data, and convenient querying of multiple datasets. Our approach is based on a model of schema level and an instance level alignment. The models use several ontologies, e.g. PROTON and CIDOC-CRM, showing their integration by using real data from the Gothenburg City Museum.
