Scientific research is becoming increasingly dependent on the large-scale analysis of data using High Performance computing (HPC) infrastructures. Scientific computing aims at constructing mathematical models and numerical solution techniques for solving problems arising in science and engineering. The solution of linear system of equations lies at the heart of most calculations in scientific computing. HPC infrastructures with many-core and graphics processing unit (GPU) challenges, Cloud and Grid technologies and e-infrastructures are currently offering interesting opportunities for solving large-scale linear system of equations. In this article, a second-generation of our Web portal for Scientific computing is introduced based on a hybrid HPC infrastructure that provides predictable optimal execution and scales from a single resource to multiple resources. After analyzing the synergies and the complementarities of the different computing platforms, we argue for an architecture that combines the benefits of these technologies.

In sentiment analysis of reviews we focus on classifying the polarity (positive, negative) of conveyed opinions from the perspective of textual evidence. Most of the work in the field has been intensively applied on the English language and only few experiments have explored other languages. In this paper, we present a supervised classification of French movie reviews where sentiment analysis is based on some shallow linguistic features such as POS tagging, chunking and simple negation forms. In order to improve classification, we extracted word semantic orientation from the lexical resource SentiWordNet. Since SentiWordNet is an English resource, we apply a word-translation from French to English before polarity extraction. Our approach is evaluated on French movie reviews, obtained results showed that shallow linguistic features has significantly improved the classification performance with respect to the bag of words baseline.

This volume contains the Proceedings of The Third International Conference on software, Services & Semantic Technologies (S3T) held in Bourgas, Bulgaria on September 1-3, 2011. It is the third S3T conference in a series of annually organized events supported by the F7 EU SISTER Project and hosted by Sofia University. The conference is aimed at providing a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss the latest developments in the area of software, Services and intelligent Content and Semantics. The conference sessions and the contents of this volume are structured according to the conference track themes: intelligent Content and Semantics (10 papers), Knowledge Management, Business Intelligence and Innovation (4 papers), software and Services (6 papers), and Technology Enhanced Learning (9 papers). The papers published in this volume cover a wide range of topics related to the track themes. Particular emphasis is placed on applying intelligent semantic technologies in educational and professional environments with papers in the areas of Ontologies and Semantic Web Technologies, Web Data and Knowledge, Social Networks Analysis, Information Extraction and Visualisation, Semantic Search and Retrieval, E-learning, and User Modelling and Personalization.

The execution of orders on stock exchanges is managed by a set of formalized rules based on price and time priority. Nevertheless, orders issued by investors do not show-up directly in the market system : they transit through the brokerage intermediation where they can be arranged in different sequences. We show that the latter operation has a critical impact on investors. In this paper, we propose a decision support system that solves the underlying optimization problem for a given social welfare. We show that the solution cannot be obtained without an agent-based simulation platform that individualizes the consequences of the broker decision in terms of order sequencing at the agent (client) level. In this framework, we study the impact of several social welfares functions and show how the broker can grant his clients with "just and equitable principles of trade".

Most knowledge is available in unstructured texts, however, it must be represented and handled automatically to become truly useful for the construction knowledge-based systems. Ontologies are an approach for knowledge representation capable of expressing a set of entities and their relationships, constraints, axioms and vocabulary of a given domain. Ontology population looks for identifying instances of concepts, relationships and properties of an ontology. Manual population by domain experts and knowledge engineers is an expensive and time consuming task so, automatic or semi-automatic approaches are needed. This article proposes a process for semi-automatic population of ontologies from text focusing on the application of natural language processing and information extraction techniques to acquire and classify ontology instances. Some experiments using a legal corpus were conducted in order to evaluate it. Initial results are promising and indicate that our approach can extract instances with high effectiveness.
