To meet the challenges of designing mechatronic products, a program called MIDCAD was implemented which combines the functionality of Electronic Computer Aided Design (ECAD) and Mechanic CAD (MCAD) systems. Especially three-dimensional Molded Interconnect Devices (MID) and the layout of the electrical circuitry on their spatial surfaces are supported. In addition to MIDCAD there is a new research project working out the integration of macro-MID technology in automobiles (IMTP). On the one hand, the MCAD system CATIA V5 was enhanced by a computation of electrical properties of electric circuits and an automatic generation of the 3D electric conductor layout. The second part accomplishes the preparation of product information in CAD for automated production processes (CAM). This CAD-CAM-chain for a new technology called Flamecon (R) was developed in cooperation with LEONI AG, Germany. Furthermore, a technology database for MIDs was integrated plus a universal data format for geometry and extended information was implemented.

One of the most prevalent approaches among distributed architectures is Multi-Agent Systems. The agents have characteristics such as autonomy, reasoning, reactivity, social abilities and pro-activity which make them appropriate for developing distributed systems based on highly dynamic scenarios. Nevertheless, the development of a multi-agent system can be an extensive and delicate process. During this process, it is convenient to utilize Agent-Oriented software Engineering (AOSE) tools. Such tools facilitate and improve the engineering process, achieving models that are more detailed and closer to the multi-agent systems implementation. This paper presents the analysis and design of a Flexible and User Services Oriented Multi-agent Architecture (FUSION@). Recent emergence of Cloud computing is accelerating the trend of delivering enterprise applications and IT infrastructure in the form of externally provided services. The convergence of Cloud computing, SaaS and Web 2.0 are redefining the very basis on which the computer industry has operated for decades, challenging some of the key SOA assumptions and principles. To cope with dynamic changes and disturbances, manufacturing systems are required to have constant adaptability, agility, stability, self-organization, intelligence and robustness. By referencing the biological organization structure and mechanism, the concept of Bio-inspired Manufacturing System (BiMS) is proposed. The model of BiMS is presented to be composed of Bio-inspired Manufacturing Cells (BiMCs). Taking BiMS as a biological body, BiMC can be looked as the organ at different levels. Inspired by the ultra-short feedback mechanism of the natural neuro-endocrine system, the control and coordination mechanism between BiMCs is investigated, and a bio-inspired self-adaptive manufacturing system control architecture is established based on the neuro-endocrine-immunity system (NEIS). Meanwhile, the pheromone communication mechanism has been used to improve the robustness of BiMS. A simulation platform has been set up to verify the functions of BiMS.

This paper presents an assembly path planning method based on lightweight model. Firstly, the position-posture matrix (PPM) of initial disassembly is calculated through identifying the features with assembly constraints in the lightweight model of part. Secondly, the bounding box and triangle meshes are projected to implement the collision detection at key point in the disassembly process. Then recording all key points produces the disassembly path. At last, the collision-free assembly path is generated by reversing the disassembly path. The instance application shows that this method can decrease technical requirements and application costs, improve calculation efficiency for the virtual assembly process planning, and is convenient for publishing to the work site of manufacturing and maintenance.

The goal of this work is to provide the jNEP user with a visual tool to graphically design the NEPs under consideration. jNEP is a Java simulator for NEPs previously developed by some of the authors of this paper. We have designed a domain specific visual language for NEPs by means of AToM(3). We have also taken advantage of the AToM(3)'s graph grammar modules to automate some mechanical and time-consuming designing tasks, such as properly placing filters close to their processors, and defining some kinds of standard graph topologies. AToM(3) is a python tool previously developed by some of the authors of this paper.

This paper contributes to the design of intelligent buildings. A Multi-Agents Home Automation System (MAHAS) is proposed which controls appliances and energy sources in buildings. The objective of this paper is to show that by using intelligent agents related to appliances, it is possible to improve the energy consumption/production in buildings. The proposed MAHAS system is characterised by its openness, its scalability and its capability to manage diversity. In this paper, we show how a multi-agent system, well adapted to solve problems spatially distributed and opened, can dynamically adapt the consumption of energy to various constraints by exploiting the flexibilities of the services provided by domestic devices (services shifting, energy accumulating). Finally, we conclude on the contribution of Multi-Agent approach to the power management problem.

The different agents included in our architecture facilitate an adapted service by taking into account context information and users specific requirements and preferences. This functionality is achieved by means of the introduction of a context manager and the definition of user profiles.
