In order to optimize part machining service combination, an approach is proposed from the perspective of improving assembly fit quality. Difference between part tolerance and error is regarded as evaluation index. Simulated annealing is adopted to look for the best solution with little time consumption. The main goal of this paper is to describe how we consider that splicing systems (a family of abstract bio-inspired computing devices) can be automatically programmed (designed) in the future. One of the necessary steps is to formally describe the computer being programmed (splicing systems). Some of the authors of this paper have previously solved this problem. Another necessary step is to develop a simulator for H systems. We propose applying Christiansen Grammar Evolution (an evolutionary automatic programming algorithm developed by the authors) to complete the process. This technique includes a fitness function that the simulator requires. This paper is devoted to describe jHSys, a Java simulator for splicing (H) systems.

The huge number of cores existing in current Graphics Processor Units (GPUs) provides these devices with computing capabilities that can be exploited by distributed applications. In particular, these capabilites have been used in crowd simulations for enhancing the crowd rendering, and even for simulating continuum crowds. However, GPUs have not been used for simulating large crowds of complex agents, since these simulations require distributed architectures that can support huge amounts of agents. In this paper, we propose a GPU-based multi-agent system for crowd simulation. Concretely, we propose the use of an on-board GPU to implement one of the main tasks that a distributed server for crowd simulations should perform. The huge number of cores in the GPU is used to simultaneously validate movement requests from different agents, greatly reducing the server response time. Since this task represents the critical data path, the use of this hardware significantly increases the parallelism achieved with respect to the implementation of the same distributed server on a CPU. An application example shows that the system can support agents with complex navigational behaviors.

Nowadays, integration of biological information coming from multiple sources is a common task for the functional interpretation of experimental results during high-throughput data analysis. In concrete, metabolic pathways information is one of the most widely used genome annotation, during post-hoc analyses of differential gene expression experiments. This paper presents a multi-agent system able to retrieve and integrate metabolic functional annotations coming from multiple available databases. Taking advantage of the multi agent architecture design, the developed tool is flexible, scalable and extensible to adopt more databases. Interoperability with external systems is achieved through a freely available RESTful API.

In this work, the methodology AmISim to test and to deployment of Ambient Intelligence (AmI) system is presented. The development of AmI systems is a complex task because this technology must adapt to users and contextual information as well as unpredictable and changeable behaviours. So, we focused in how the methodology AmISim can help to the engineering of adaptative services for users. In this case, we propose a predictor of location based on Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). So, the system can offer Location-Based Services(LBS) that adapt to the users. To this end, we propose a methodology based on a previous social multi-agent based simulation (MABS) and a following deployment of the service in a real environment.

Mitigation through ignition and venting prevents potential detonation situations, but the resulting deflagration burn can still pose a threat to containment structures. The purpose of this research is to understand the general behaviour of vented deflagration using simulation. This paper discusses simulation modelling for the deflagration process in large volumes. The simulation is used to estimate pressure development and visualize flame growth during a deflagration. The simulation model is simple and efficient for the complicated deflagration process. It can be used in real time with design changes.

E-healthcare has acquired great importance in recent years and requires the development of innovative solutions. This paper presents a telemonitoring system aimed at enhancing remote healthcare for dependent people at their homes. The system deploys a Service-Oriented Architecture based platform over a heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks infrastructure. Furthermore, the information obtained by telemonitoring systems must be managed by intelligent and self-adaptable technologies to provide an adequate interaction between the users and their environment. In the proposed system, the WSNs platform is integrated with a multi-agent architecture so that information gathered by WSN nodes is managed by intelligent agents with reasoning mechanisms.

This paper presents an analytical solution for dynamic response of non-uniform cross sectional area beam neutral axis. Frequency equation due to a free vibration was obtained in the case of fixed-free boundary conditions with spring attached. Firstly, the coefficient matrices for a step beam with spring attached at the point of the step section and at the tip of the beam have been derived considering the boundary conditions. Next equating the determinant of the coefficient matrices to zero one obtains the dimensionless eigenfrequencies of this beam. Finally, the effects of various stiffness dimensionless parameters and various locations of the springs on the free vibration characteristics of this beam are studied.

Web Semantization is a concept we introduce in this paper. We understand Web Semantization as an automated process of increasing degree of semantic content on the web. Part the of content of the web is further usable, semantic content (usually annotated) is more suitable for machine processing. The idea is supported by models, methods, prototypes and experiments with a web repository, automated annotation tools producing third party semantic annotations, semantic repository serving as a sample of semantized web and a proposal of an intelligentsoftware agent. We are working on a proof of concept that even today it is possible to develop a semantic search engine designed for software agents.

In the context of Health Smart Homes for aging and cognitively impaired people, the adaptation of the smart assistance to the set of sensors/effectors and to the people present is a crucial problem. Some solutions have been proposed. They can either assist a lone person for a small set of activities in a precise smart space, either assist a person in mobility. However, to our knowledge none of them is able to manage the simultaneous assistance of multiple persons in different smart spaces. In this paper, we are considering this problem. We are proposing a multi-part solution to manage a truly ambient intelligence system. Based on a scenario of daily living in such a situation where conflicts in assistance may arise, we propose to use nested and explicit multi-agent organizations to help to "solve" this problem. After defining the concept of nested organization, we illustrate how it can be used to manage dynamically every aspect of multi-person assistance in daily-living activities in a Smart Home.
