The problem of circular pattern matching is to find all rotations of a given pattern P in text T, both over a common alphabet. The pattern and any of its rotations are also called conjugates in the literature. For the online version of this problem we present a new general approach and use several matching techniques as components, based on bit-parallelism and filtering. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the method, with matching speeds reaching 7-8GB/s for long patterns and natural language or protein data.

In this paper we present an extensive study of a two-stage algorithm for wrist localization in color images, which is an important and challenging, yet not extensively studied, step in gesture recognition systems. In the first stage of the algorithm, a color hand image is subject to skin segmentation. Secondly, the wrist is localized in a corresponding binarized skin probability map. In our two-stage approach, the algorithms for both localization stages can be developed and compared separately. Here, we compare our propagation-based skin segmentation algorithm and real-time wrist localization algorithm with other state-of-the-art approaches based on our set of 414 color hand images using two independent sets of ground-truth data.

Search of selection at molecular level is typically done with neutrality tests. However, non selective factors can cause similar effects on tests results. In order to make the influence of particular non selective forces weaker, a battery of such tests can be applied and the combination of results could be considered as inputs to a properly trained classifier. Success of such approach depends on two issues: appropriate expert knowledge to be used during training of the classifier and the choice of the most suitable machine learning method, which generalizes the acquired knowledge to unknown cases. Comparison of connectionist and rule-based rough set approaches in this role is the main goal of the paper.

Multiple fundamental frequency estimation is an important research area of the Music Information Retrieval (MIR). It can be used to transcribe polyphonic music from audio signal to symbolic data (e. g. MIDI files). The correct behaviour of some algorithms heavily depends on correct choice of a certain set of parameters. In this work, both the most fundamental and the most recent approaches in multiple F-0 estimation task are presented. Furthermore, basic information about metaheuristic optimization is introduced. Finally, the developed solution is presented - it is the modified version of one of the most popular approaches - iterative algorithm optimized using a popular example of metaheuristic optimization, i.e. Luus-Jaakola approach. The most important parameters are selected and their influence on the final results is discussed.

In our approach, we develop complex information systems over ontological graphs in which attribute values are local ontological graphs of ontologies assigned to attributes. Research in emotional speech recognition is generally focused on analysis of a set of primary emotions. However it is clear that spontaneous speech, which is more intricate comparing to acted out utterances, carries information about emotional complexity or degree of their intensity. This paper refers to the theory of Robert Plutchik, who suggested the existence of eight primary emotions. All other states are derivatives and occur as combinations, mixtures or compounds of the primary emotions. During the analysis Polish spontaneous speech database containing manually created confidence labels was implemented as a training and testing set. Classification results of four primary emotions (anger, fear, joy, sadness) and their intensities have been presented. The level of intensity is determined basing on the similarity of particular emotion to neutral speech. Studies have been conducted using prosodic features and perceptual coefficients. Results have shown that the proposed measure is effective in recognition of intensity of the predicted emotion.

This article presents the integration of the KUKA robot standard control system with a National Instruments 1742 Smart Camera. Described solution allows remote robot motion planning via TCP/IP protocol. Project develops a complete library for LabView environment, giving user the possibility to create their own solutions of managing camera capability. The library also allows to create applications for camera and the external computer to generate robot's trajectory. The main advantage of this approach is the application of ready-made algorithms, containing the LabVIEW environment of object detection as well as building a completely new algorithms related to pattern recognition. The process of trajectory generation and robot control is performed via Internet, allowing a remote usage of the research stand.

By the earliest motivation of building robots to take care of human being in the daily life, the researches on humanoid robots have been explored and developed over the recent decades. One challenge of humanoid robots is its capability of communication with people via audio-visual speech. Certainly, the integration of audio module and visual module improve the robot performance. In this paper, we present a novel system combines these two modules in one environment to be utilized alone or in humanoid robots. The proposed system adapts the user facial movements that cannot be avoided in reality. The experimental results show how these two modules enhance each other and yield an effective speech recognizer.

The aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of combining two methods Independent Component Analysis (ICA) and adaptive filtering for identifying the slow waves propagation from cutaneous multichannel electrogastrographical signal (EGG). The 3 cycle per minute (3 cpm) gastric pacesetter potential so-called slow wave is fundamental electrical phenomenon of stomach. Slow waves determine the propagation and maximum frequency of stomach contractions. Appropriate spread of gastric contractions is a key for the correct stomach emptying whereas delay this action causes various gastric disorders, such as bloating, vomiting or unexplained nausea. Parameters depict EGG properties mostly based on spectral analysis and information about slow waves spread and coupling are totaly lost, so new methods for studying slow wave propagation are really desired.
