Industry 4.0 has made possible the integration of new technologies, also called 4.0 components, into production systems in order to enhance their productivity and performance in general. However, this integration has brought new types of risks that have to be mitigated to avoid production systems to stop operating due to a failure of the 4.0 components. In this context, resilience, defined as the capability and ability of an element to return to a stable state after a disruption, represents a promising domain to explore. For industrial systems and Industry 4.0, current works dealing with resilience focus on specific types of disruptions and technologies without providing a general framework. This article proposes a general framework to integrate 4.0 components into production systems in a resilient manner. The framework is inspired by the concepts of resilience in socio-ecological systems in an attempt to provide production systems the ability to overcome unexpected disturbances and persist in time. This includes the adaptation of the concepts of state variables, stability landscape and the aspects of resilience (resistance, latitude and precariousness). It has a service-oriented architecture that connects the 4.0 components to all the services that they enable in the production system. This allows to define several system states according to the service levels enabled by the 4.0 components. The potential use of the framework is illustrated on the Internet of Things (IoT) as a specific 4.0 component.

In recent years, the road safety community has increasingly acknowledged the pivotal role of composite indicators in enhancing decision-making processes. This study explores the specific motivations driving the development of these metrics within the road safety research field and analyzes the procedures and methods employed for this purpose. Through a careful examination of a selection of relevant studies, valuable insights into the significance and use of road safety indexes have been gained. This exploration unveils the reasons behind their widespread use and provides a deeper understanding of the techniques and methodologies applied in their construction. Consequently, our research establishes a robust foundation for future endeavors in the construction and refinement of road safety composite indicators.

In this paper, the parameters involved in the chloride ions diffusion for concrete structures have been analysed. Usually, several factors for diffusivity and surface chloride concentration are introduced to consider all internal and external actions that contribute to the diffusion. However, the inter-correlations between them are neglected. This paper treats these inter-correlations. From experimental laboratory tests about 850 parameters and values have been filtered and collected. These values have been divided in 11 categories and combined with each other. More of 120 numerical analyses by using k-means algorithm have been carried out. This algorithm is considered an artificial intelligence (AI) to support the human limitations in managing and analysing an enormous quantity of parameter. Results provide disaggregated values where each parameter is correlated with other one. This allows to understand their weight and effects on chloride ions diffusion. This paper provides not only a new approach but also practical values for more accurate analyses.

This study investigates the problem of determining the minimum distance between two smooth 3D curves. We propose its solution on the basis of the newly formulated idea of Charged Balls Method. The main idea behind this method is the physical model which tends to the solution of the original problem. We can derive equations of motion for the system and apply the difference scheme for the solution of the obtained ordinary differential equations. This is the way we get an iterative algorithm for the initial problem. We employ Lyapunov theory of stability to prove the convergence of the proposed method. More specifically, the Barbashin-Krasovskii theorem on asymptotic stability is employed. The convergence rate of the algorithm is analyzed and the corresponding results are presented. We provide a number of numerical examples to demonstrate its work. These examples acknowledge the effectiveness of the method and stresses that the choice of the parameters one may significantly affect the convergence rate.

The recent integration of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) into recommendation has led to a novel family of Collaborative Filtering (CF) approaches, namely Graph Collaborative Filtering (GCF). Following the same GNNs wave, recommender systems exploiting Knowledge Graphs (KGs) have also been successfully empowered by the GCF rationale to combine the representational power of GNNs with the semantics conveyed by KGs, giving rise to Knowledge-aware Graph Collaborative Filtering (KGCF), which use KGs to mine hidden user intents. Nevertheless, empirical evidence suggests that computing and combining user-level intent might not always be necessary, as simpler approaches can yield comparable or superior results while keeping explicit semantic features. Under this perspective, user historical preferences become essential to refine the KG and retain the most discriminating features, thus leading to concise item representation. Driven by the assumptions above, we propose KGUF, a KGCF model that learns latent representations of semantic features in the KG to better define the item profile. By leveraging user profiles through decision trees, KGUF effectively retains only those features relevant to users. Results on three datasets justify KGUF's rationale, as our approach is able to reach performance comparable or superior to SOTA methods while maintaining a simpler formalization.

Maintaining air quality is essential to life on Earth and is critical to public health protection. Based on that, forecasting air quality is a commonly handled urgent research area. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is commonly used for air quality forecasting, where the utilized data is in the form of a time series. Nevertheless, existing studies have not thoroughly addressed missing data, which is an inevitable problem, particularly in real-life data sets. To strive to make up for this lack, we aimed to forecast PM2.5 air pollutant in Eskisehir using LSTM and different missing data imputation methods. Different imputation methods are considered to fill missing observations with plausible values, namely Backward Fill, Forward Fill, Zero Fill, Median Fill, Mean Fill, Random Fill, Interpolation, and Kalman Filtering. Our results indicate that the best forecasting performance is achieved with the LSTM model trained on the data set imputing with interpolation.

Considering the global increase in battery-powered devices and electric vehicles, lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling has become an important issue for environmental sustainability and technological efficiency In Chile, a country with significant lithium reserves, it is essential to develop effective recycling strategies and methods for batteries. This approach should prioritize circularity and align with national regulatory requirements. The methodology includes a documentary review of the LIB market and the most commonly used recycling processes, evaluating mechanical, pyrometallurgical, and hydrometallurgical techniques. A conceptual recycling process is proposed, encompassing manual disassembly, mechanical crushing, and hydrometallurgical separation to recover valuable materials, including lithium, nickel, and cobalt. The proposed scheme aims to contribute to developing an efficient and sustainable lithium-ion battery recycling industry in Chile. Additionally, it aims to familiarize individuals with aspects of lithium-ion battery technology, particularly the primary sector responsible for managing their end-of-life: the recycling industry, in alignment with current international standards.

This paper investigates the symbol error rate (SER) performance of cell-free large scale multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, specifically focusing on scenarios involving maximum-ratio combining (MRC) detectors and perfect channel state information (CSI) under Rayleigh fading channels. First, the study begins by deriving the probability density function (PDF) for both the desired signals and the equivalent noise. These derivations are carried out for two common modulation schemes: M-ary phase shift keying (PSK) and M-ary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM). On the basis of these PDF derivations, this paper further develops analytic expressions for the SER of both modulation techniques. The final section presents numerical simulations that validate the accuracy of the derived SER expressions for these two modulation methods, confirming their consistency with the theoretical predictions.

In the domain of neurological disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), MRI scans serve as pivotal tool for diagnosis and treatment evaluation. However, the availability of public datasets on Multiple Sclerosis is limited and insufficient. Although deep learning models have proven effective in aiding the diagnosis and analysis of disease progression, their accuracy is dependent on access to large and diverse datasets. To address this issue, we propose a novel approach by augmenting a UNet-based Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model (DDPM) with a spatial attention mechanism, benefiting from the interpretability of the generated attention maps to enhance the model's convergence as well as the generated MRIs. Our modified architecture demonstrates superior performance, surpassing state-of-the-art GANs and diffusion models on existing public datasets as well as African Local dataset, with the lowest loss values 0.13 and 0.04 for L1 and L2 respectively, and a Frechet inception distance FID of 0.20 between generated and ground truth scans. Showcasing its effectiveness in capturing the intricacies of MS lesions and the unique characteristics of MRI scans in the African context. Thereby broadening its applicability and relevance in diverse clinical settings. While the generated synthetic dataset offer a practical solution to the limited availability of real-world data and addresses the privacy concerns inherent in medical data sharing.
