Human action recognition (HAR) is a crucial field in computer vision with applications ranging from video surveillance to human-computer interaction. This study explores an efficient framework for HAR by leveraging human keypoint extraction using Google's Mediapipe and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. The Mediapipe framework provides accurate and real-time human keypoint extraction, significantly reducing the computational complexity associated with raw video data processing. These keypoints, representing skeletal movements, are utilised as input to LSTM networks, which capture the temporal dependencies vital for action classification. The proposed method is evaluated on two benchmark datasets: UCF101 and Kinetics 400. UCF101 contains 13,320 video clips across 101 action classes, while Kinetics 400 features 400 human action categories. The combination of Mediapipe for feature extraction and LSTM for temporal modelling achieves 92.40% and 86.8% accuracy on UCF101 and Kinetics400, respectively. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of keypoint-based approaches for HAR. This study highlights the potential of lightweight, real-time human action recognition frameworks suitable for resource-constrained environments, especially for edgeAI and edge Robotics.

This research addresses the limitations of educational institutions in defining the cybersecurity capabilities needed to protect, respond, and recover from the main cybercrime scenarios in the sector. To date, there is evidence of an increase in cyberattacks targeting educational institutions, and there are no models to define the capabilities to reduce risk, so we focused on creating a cybersecurity target profile model based on NIST based on the reality of the education sector. This model will allow the institution to implement a cybersecurity program autonomously, reduce costs, and prioritize critical capabilities for the institution. In this sense, the model has been confirmed through a case study in which the current cybersecurity posture of the institution was calculated and, based on the gaps identified with the proposed target profile, initiatives to improve it were set up. The results show that the implementation of the model improved critical cybersecurity capabilities in educational institutions by 30%, moving capabilities from a low maturity level (Initial) to a defined level. In addition, a 60% reduction in the cost of implementing the cybersecurity program was shown. Thus, the proposed model allows institutions to find gaps and opportunities for improvement, strengthening their cybersecurity management and maturity in this area. It also helps the implementation of a cybersecurity program by reducing costs and providing autonomy to educational institutions.

The uncertainty of load in integrated energy system (IES) and the different time scales of multi-energy response load fluctuation bring challenges to the reliability of optimization results. In order to overcome these challenges and increase the renewable energy consumption of the IES. Taking rural integrated energy system (RIES) as the research object, this paper proposed a two-stage optimization model with shared energy storage (SES) on multiple-time scales, and uses particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to solve it. Furthermore, in order to accurately predict power variations of the source/load, this paper employed the long short-term memory (LSTM) method, which can fulfill the requirement for the source/load prediction. A real RIES case analysis from Shandong Province was conducted, demonstrating that the proposed method held economic and environmental significance. Moreover, this paper provided valuable guidance for future IES research endeavors.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) text generation systems have resulted in their ability to provide precise recommendations in response to users' questions (prompts). However AI models often operate as black boxes, making it challenging for users to comprehend their inner workings. The transparency of these models is crucial for users to gain a better understanding of how AI systems function. While the Human-computer Interaction (HCI) community has advocated for design principles like progressive disclosure to improve transparency, we still lack empirical evidence validating its efficacy for AI systems, especially in the context of LLM-based text generation. Addressing this gap, this paper presents a user study with 30 participants aimed at investigating the effect of progressive disclosure and adjusting the explanations so as to adapt to users' mental models for improving the transparency of AI text generation systems. The findings suggest that users prefer on-demand explanations and value diverse explanation methods, especially when the explanations gradually give the users a better understanding of the AI system. Additionally, qualitative data shows a marginal preference for word clouds over keyword highlighting. User feedback indicates that explanations such as word-pair cosine values, which leverage the interpretability of AI models, are less suitable for lay users. Altering the visual presentation of these word-pair cosine values from a table of numbers to a bar graph did not increase user satisfaction with this explanation technique.

This study investigates the complexities of Mixed Traffic with Fleets of Automated Vehicles (MTF-AVs) in underground mining environments characterized by confined spaces, limited visibility, and strict navigation requirements. The research focuses on integrating human-controlled vehicles into coordinated AV fleets, addressing the unpredictable interactions that arise from human behaviour. The ORU coordination framework, originally designed for a fully autonomous system, is adapted for mixed traffic scenarios to evaluate the impact of human behaviour on system efficiency and safety. Through a series of simulations, the study explores how fleet coordination algorithms adapt to human driver behaviour. These simulations demonstrate that human error and rule violations significantly reduce performance, increasing safety risks and decreasing efficiency. Findings emphasize the need for advanced coordination algorithms that dynamically adapt to unpredictable human behaviour in MTF-AVs. Such algorithms would optimize interactions between automated and human-controlled vehicles, enhancing both safety and efficiency in these complex and dynamic environments. Future research will further explore the influence of human behaviour on the coordination system and develop advanced coordination algorithms with methods to evaluate these interactions effectively.

Our paper proposes a comprehensive framework to evaluate the effectiveness of prompts and the corresponding responses generated by Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) systems. To do so, our evaluation framework incorporates both objective metrics (accuracy, speed, relevancy, and format) and subjective metrics (coherence, tone, clarity, verbosity, and user satisfaction). A sample evaluation is performed on prompts send to Gemini and ChatGPT GenAI models. Additionally, our evaluation framework employs various feedback mechanisms, such as surveys, expert interviews, and automated reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), to iteratively enhance the performance and reliability of GenAI models. By providing a holistic approach to evaluating and improving prompt-response effectiveness, our evaluation framework contributes to the development of more credible and user-friendly AI systems.

The purpose of this study is to develop a practice record visualization system using a piano performance tracking technology that utilizes gaze information. In general, piano lessons are held regularly, e.g., once a week, and the teacher observes the student's skills at a fixed point. However, it can be difficult for the teacher to fully understand and address all areas how the student has practiced from the previous lesson to the current lesson and need improvement. This makes it difficult to provide appropriate guidance in lessons, such as determining whether students are too nervous to perform well in front of the teacher, or whether they are also unable to perform well in home practice. To solve this problem, we propose a performance tracking algorithm that can handle keystroke errors and replaying, and a system that visualizes the amount of practice and other practice progress. The proposed system visualizes the amount of practice and errors in various units, such as notes and measures. To verify the usefulness of the proposed system, we conducted an evaluation experiment comparing the case of using the proposed system and not using the proposed system.

In many countries, agriculture is a means of development. Several structures are set up as cooperative, economic interest group (EIG), etc. However, these structures have very little interdependency that can allow them to go beyond their limits such as access to finance, access to national and international markets, etc.. This raises new challenges of collaboration between structures that we can consider each structure as a coalition. This work provides a coalition's migration (dynamic merging and splitting coalition) mechanism that allows auto-stable coalitions of self-interested agents in uncertainty context. Specifically, we assume uncertainties and interdependencies on tasks, agents and resources. We address the case in which agent and environment inherent uncertainties prohibit the computation of coalition stability ahead agent's goals. Facing such context, we propose a core-stable and auto-stabilizing anytime coalition formation mechanism which we denote as DMS (Dynamic Merging and Splitting). The mechanism arrives at a stability, maximizes social welfare, and converges gradually to near optimal results. DMS combines game theory methods and the laws of probability. Our experiments and their analysis demonstrate the efficiency of DMS.

As an essential component of the integrated air-ground-space networks, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is indispensable for the mobile edge computing (MEC) processing. In this paper, considering the highly dynamic nature of information exchange, we apply the multiagent reinforcement learning (MARL) for the UAV-based communication networks and introduce a low-complexity K-means algorithm for the precluster/partition users to improve the system performance. We devise a general reward and punishment strategy within the multi-agent reinforcement learning process to generate the optimal trajectories and promote the coverage maximization. Furthermore, we utilize NOMA technology to provide stable data rate gains and allocate more power to weaker users under optimizing energy consumption so as to maximize the overall system throughput. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed joint optimization algorithm achieves excellent convergence performance in UAV based integrated air-ground-space networks.

Elderly falls mostly refer to critical incidents, which imply a critical need for detection systems that can accurately detect falls. This paper presents an IoT-based fall-detection and activity monitoring system by the integration of supervised machine learning algorithms with MPU6050 motion sensors. The performance of six machine learning algorithms has been tested on collected motion data to detect and classify activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and falling. Results showed the Random Forest model yielded the highest accuracy (96%) and F1-score (95.5%) for detecting falls compared to SVM and outperformed it in classification performance as well as robustness to data variations. The proposed system is guaranteed to be a reliable, user-friendly solution in elderly care due to its real-time functionality and low false alarm rates.
