Efficient management of municipal solid waste systems is vital for cities today, as it encompasses significant environmental, social, and economic implications. To manage this intricate system, the integration of computational tools to support decision making process is invaluable. This study presents a comprehensive model to simultaneously address two distinct logistics problems, namely the sizing of collection points and the design of collection routes, which are usually treated separately due to their individual complexity. In addition, the model is solved with both a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model and a Genetic Algorithm (GA). Regarding the GA, two chromosomes with two different encoding schemes (binary and permutation) were considered to define the representation and a 4 x 3(3) factorial design was performed to tune four of the algorithm parameters: crossover and mutation operators, and their respective rates. Initial results on small instances suggest the potential of GA to address this problem in real-world instances when exact mathematical model are not applicable, since it is able to improve the results obtained with the MILP model.

Personalized gamification seeks to address the limitations of the one-size-fits-all approach, mostly by tailoring the selection of game elements to individual preferences. However, there is limited understanding of how aesthetic personalization influences actual student behavior. This paper presents a behavioral analysis of 40 high school students engaged with a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) over a four-week period. Each participant experienced both the one-size-fits-all and aesthetic personalization conditions for two weeks while submitting homework. Utilizing interaction data, we employed recurrent neural networks and grid search to develop a user model that demonstrated moderate agreement with students' actual behavior. This model was then utilized to examine student behavior over time. We found that, compared to the one-size-fits-all approach, aesthetic personalization appears to be linked with a higher probability of sustained engagement with the VLE during the initial days of interaction, despite this difference becomes inconsistent thereafter. This discovery suggests that while aesthetic personalization might enhance student learning by optimizing engagement with the VLE, it might suffer from the novelty effect.

This article discusses the utilization of writing analytics in Special Education, with a particular focus on students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Research increasingly supports the use of data mining and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze and support students' writing processes, showcasing the potential of these systems to enhance student engagement and the accuracy of automated feedback. However, concerns persist regarding potential biases and ethical implications. The literature highlights limitations in applying Writing Analytics and AI to atypical students since most research and tools are designed with typical students in mind, reflecting societal biases. Autistic students often encounter challenges in writing performance due to factors such as rigid style, limited vocabulary, and difficulties expressing thoughts. This paper presents a study involving the analysis of 2643 essays from secondary education students, including a subset with ASD, using text-to-network tools and NLP analysis to compare texts and examine computational linguistics metrics and text mining patterns. Preliminary findings suggest the necessity for tailored evaluation and interventions for ASD students. While AI offers opportunities for personalized interventions, further research is essential to effectively adapt current tools for atypical students.

The benefits of fashion E-commerce for customers are undisputed. Ordering clothes is easy, fast and usually free of delivery and return charges. Fashion E-commerce is moving the changing room from the brick-and-mortar store to the consumer's living room. These efforts, and the associated ever-increasing E-commerce sales, are accompanied by a consumer return behaviour that has high environmental and economic costs. Most studies in this area focus on the prevention of returns. However, many returns cannot be avoided, e.g. those based on selection orders or quality problems. This is the starting point for this study, which investigates how AI can be used to improve reverse logistics from an environmental and economic perspective, based on return forecasts. To this end, a literature review of existing approaches is conducted, followed by a detailed concept of an AI-based recommendation system for the best possible further processing of returns, with the aim of routing the returned product to a suitable sales channel as quickly as possible.

Although Wikidata and DBpedia are closely related to Wikipedia, they often hold a small subset of its semantic information, due to the specific scopes and methodologies chosen for their Linked Data (LD) construction. When we look at biographies, a large amount of RDF statements focus on the person's core facts, and many semantic narratives are not included. To fill this knowledge gap, this paper seeks a solution with Natural Language Processing (NLP). We aim to assess to what extent out-of-the-box NLP tools can generate new LD from the biographical articles in Wikipedia. Unlike other NLP research, we put more emphasis on the qualitative analysis of NLP outputs ("close reading") than the statistical performance of NLP algorithms ("distant reading"). We evaluate the overlaps and gaps between Wikipedia, Wikidata and DBpedia, as well as other biographical ontologies. We also analyze the triple patterns from the NLP results in comparison with the RDF entity (instance) and ontologies. Our research revealed that we are able to capture new information about the entity that Wikidata and DBpedia do not hold. At the same time, some noise could not be easily eliminated. Our method presented a bottom-up approach to biographical ontology designing. We also briefly propose a possible solution for future work.

NooJ Dictionary for Rromani: Importing of an Editorial Dictionary to the NooJ System 1

This article presents the process of importing an editorial dictionary [1] into the NooJ system. The current module for Rromani contains only 640 dictionary entries. However, we have written the central inflectional grammars of nouns, verbs, adjectives and grammatical words using the NooJ environment. Now, we import the editorial dictionary to complete the NooJ dictionary. Rromani language has a complex dialect structure, yet its dialectal equivalents show systematic correspondences between them [2]. This fact encourages us to develop a single and joint module for the entire Rromani language. The editorial dictionary mentioned above includes variants of the four Rromani dialects. The problem is that the information related to part of speech (POS) categories is absent or not precise enough to be processed by the NooJ parser. We have made implicit information explicit and identified 2,559 nouns, 830 adjectives and 686 verbs among 4,524 entries. However, we still have to identify the categories of other 448 words by referring to additional dictionaries [3-5]. We would first complete importing the entire editorial dictionary and then examine each entry to perfect the inflectional morphology and formalize the derivational morphology in the NooJ module for Rromani.

This study employs quantitative analysis to investigate how gender differences and educational policies influence students' and educators' willingness to engage with ChatGPT in the face of potential restrictions. Leveraging data from a national survey, which saw participation from 1,500 respondents across the United States, this research offers insights from a varied group encompassing both students and educators, thus ensuring a broad perspective on the subject. The findings reveal significant gender disparities in the inclination to use ChatGPT if it were banned, emphasizing the considerable impact of school policies. Critical Race Structuralism (CRS) was employed as a theoretical lens to delve deeper into these findings.

The increasingly dynamic and changing environment in which business processes are evolving requires companies to adapt them frequently. Thus, we deal in this paper with an adaptation engine ensuring the adaptation need detection of running processes, and more precisely of its first two components: the Monitor (M) and Analyze (A) components. This adaptation engine implements the MAPE-K loop and uses a contextual approach for the detection of the adaptation needs. It is based on a model that enables a complete representation of the process operating environment (OE) using the context notion. More precisely, this paper presents the architecture of the MAPE-K-based adaptation engine and introduces the BPMN4Context meta-model, which supports the modeling of the operating environment using the context along with the model of all processes and their use conditions. In addition, the paper introduces the recommended context-based approach that advocates (i) a filtering activity to select only significant context changes in the monitored data, considered as low-level context parameters, (ii) a reasoning activity to deduce high-level context parameters from filtered low-level ones, enhancing the current situation of running processes and (iii) the examining of the current situation before its analysis in order to resolve problems related to the used units and synonym values. Our approach is implemented as a system that instantiates the M and A components of MAPE-K loop. The feasibility and applicability of this approach is demonstrated by a case study from the crisis domain, a set of criteria and two performance tests.

The enjoyment of cultural heritage is a fundamental right for communities, as it is an expression of their cultural identity. This right, which was partially hindered during the COVID-19 pandemic, must be favoured by the digital technologies, by including the online consultation. This study aims to develop a conceptualization of online thematic path, with the intention to propose an alternative way to enjoy the cultural heritage. In order to understand how the conceptualization of the thematic path can be realized, after having sought its definition through a literature review, identified basic requirements and illustrated them with a brief description, the mapping of the above mentioned requirements with CIDOC-CRM ontology, an ISO standard widely used in the GLAM sector, is proposed.
