This paper introduces the first Turkish crossword puzzle generator designed to leverage the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) for educational purposes. In this work, we introduced two specially created datasets: one with over 180,000 unique answer-clue pairs for generating relevant clues from the given answer, and another with over 35,000 samples containing text, answer, category, and clue data, aimed at producing clues for specific texts and keywords within certain categories. Beyond entertainment, this generator emerges as an interactive educational tool that enhances memory, vocabulary, and problem-solving skills. It's a notable step in AI-enhanced education, merging game-like engagement with learning for Turkish and setting new standards for interactive, intelligent learning tools in Turkish.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) has emerged as a disruptive innovation promising to transform the educational process. Some research has focused on exploring the potential ofArtificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education;nevertheless, the question remains open about the expectations of university educators regarding the use of AI in their classes and their concerns before starting to integrate this kind of tool. This research explores the expectations and challenges of university professors regarding the use ofAI in their classes. In order to gather information about their expectations and experiences regarding the use of AIED, a survey was conducted with 27 university professors from several disciplines. The findings show a high interest among teachers in the opportunities offered by AI to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the university classroom. They expect AI to facilitate various educational aspects, from lesson planning to the creation of materials and activities to promote creativity and interactive learning. However, the main concern identified was the risk of plagiarism.

This comprehensive study conducts an in-depth analysis of existing COVID-19 ontologies, scrutinizing their objectives, classifications, design methodologies, and domain focal points. The study is conducted through a dualstage approach, commencing with a systematic review of relevant literature and followed by an ontological assessment utilizing a parametric methodology. Through this meticulous process, twenty-four COVID-19 Ontologies (CovOs) are selected and examined. The findings highlight the scope, intended purpose, granularity of ontology, modularity, formalism, vocabulary reuse, and extent of domain coverage. The analysis reveals varying levels of formality in ontology development, a prevalent preference for utilizing OWL as the representational language, and diverse approaches to constructing class hierarchieswithin the models. Noteworthy is the recurrent reuse of ontologies like OBO models (CIDO, GO, etc.) alongside CODO. The METHONTOLOGY approach emerges as a favored design methodology, often coupled with application-based or data-centric evaluation methods. Our study provides valuable insights for the scientific community and COVID-19 ontology developers, supplemented by comprehensive ontology metrics. By meticulously evaluating and documenting COVID-19 informationdriven ontological models, this research offers a comparative cross-domain perspective, shedding light on knowledge representation variations. The present study significantly enhances understanding of CovOs, serving as a consolidated resource for comparative analysis and future development, while also pinpointing research gaps and domain emphases, thereby guiding the trajectory of future ontological advancements.

To guarantee the quality of water for human consumption, it is necessary to have a monitoring system for drinking water treatment plants. For this purpose, an architecture is proposed for the development, deployment, and commissioning of a multi-node water quality monitoring system using MQTT and RS-485/Modbus protocols. For the solution to be scalable and customizable, the design employs standard notations and diagrams and considers the national and international regulations;besides, all the tools used are either Open or Freemium.

We present an exploratory study comparing human player performance against online and offline AI learning techniques-the Naive Bayes Classifier and Genetic Algorithms, respectively-using a simple turn-based game. Human player performance is also assessed according to gender, age, experience playing games, and boredom level during game sessions. Human players and AI techniques are shown to obtain statistically equivalent score distributions. No gender performance differences were found, although performance seems to decrease with age. To a lesser extent, performance appears to improve with self-assessed experience and boredom levels. This study offers a base for more comprehensive experiments, suggesting various directions for future research.

This article presents a study to characterize the electricity consumption in residential buildings in Uruguay. Understanding residential electricity consumption is a relevant concept to identify factors that influence electricity usage, and allows developing specific and custom energy efficiency policies. The study focuses on two home appliances: air conditioner and water heater, which represents a large share of the electricity consumption of Uruguayan households. A data-analysis approach is applied to process several data sources and compute relevant indicators. Statistical methods are applied to study the relationships between different relevant variables, including appliance ownership, average income of households, and temperature, and the residential electricity consumption. A specific application of the data analysis is presented: a regression model to determine the consumption patterns of water heaters in households. Results show that the proposed approach is able to compute good values for precision, recall and F1-score and an excellent value for accuracy (0.92). These results are very promising for conducting an economic analysis that takes into account the investment cost of remotely controlling water heaters and the benefits derived from managing their demand.

In an experimental study, we observed that male-stereotyped elements, such as avatars and trophies, positively impacted men's selfefficacy using gamified tutoring systems based on artificial intelligence. Regardless of gender stereotypes, men achieved higher flow state scores than women when using these systems. Thus, we conducted a qualitative study involving Brazilian high school students to understand these effects. Our findings revealed that male students experience increased self-efficacy when game elements align with their gender, making them feel more challenged and personally connected to the system. Considering the emotional aspects of dejection, agitation, cheerfulness, and quiescence, women displayed slightly higher levels of cheerfulness in neutral and female-stereotyped environments. Moreover, student motivation varied when using a gamified platform, and there were differences in the prevention motivation within the male-stereotyped and neutral environments. These findings are relevant because they can be used to develop recommendations and guidelines for creating gamified intelligent tutoring systems that promote gender equity.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) present unprecedented challenges and opportunities in creative education that focus on developing the ability to make something new and useful. In this study, we conducted an exploratory experiment in a Finnish Kindergarten examining the affective relations between AI and children. AI was embodied using a robotic arm and text-to-image model and positioned as a peer to the children in a series of counter-compositional design exercises. The resulting artifacts and observation data were analyzed using the Cultural-Historical Activity Theory, focusing on speaking as an associative action for creative learning. The study's results indicate that AI can be perceived as a member of the community instead of a tool in the learning activity system. The presence of an AI peer tended to foster more speech among the children and teachers, which can lead to creative learning. However, the AI was not as effective as the presence of a human peer due to the contradiction between the actual and perceived objectives of the AI in the learning system. In addition, we identified the importance of the role of the teacher and storytelling in creating the conditions for creative learning. We theorized a human-AI hybrid system for learning where the pedagogy of the teachers and the narrative and empathetic capabilities of the AI play an essential role in the children's creative capacity development.

Introductory undergraduate chemistry courses are gatekeepers for STEM careers, particularly for underrepresented students. Findings from implementation of a novel platform for STEM problem-solving that automatically scores and gives students feedback for enhanced learning are presented. The platform uses classic AI with recursive algorithms and computer algebra processing. The platform tracks and scores the students' solution pathway and displays the scores and descriptions for each correct step on the rubric as feedback for students to use on their next attempt. Teachers track student progress on a dashboard. Descriptions of the platform, student learning and perceptions, and differences from status quo solving and scoring are provided. 286 students used the platform. Scores increased with a large effect size. The platform distinguishes correctness of solutions beyond capabilities of human graders of students' handwritten work. The types of errors students can make differ from manually solved problems.

This article presents a metaheuristic approach applying simulated annealing for the Municipal Solid Waste collecting route problem in the Historical Center of Cuernavaca, Mexico. The solid waste collection route addressed requires finding an optimal collection route in the constrained polygonal area of the historical center of Cuernavaca. The experimental evaluation solves a realistic problem considering garbage truck information of the Cuernavaca municipality. The proposed approach finds an optimal tour that improves up to 29.3% of the solid waste collection distance over current municipal solid waste system tours.
