With the adverse impact of COVID-19 pandemic to Malaysian tourism industry, theMalaysian government initiated the Smart Tourism campaign to promote information agglomeration, ubiquitous connectivity, and real-time synchronization of tourism activities. However, the rapid pace of technological change poses a significant challenge to digital preservation efforts for cultural tourism. Digital formats, software, and hardware become obsolete quickly, making it difficult to ensure the continued accessibility of digital content over time. To support this initiative, this study is set to investigate a more intuitive approach to digital preservation of Shadow Puppet Theatre (Wayang Kulit), which is via a vertical chatbot. The chatbot is developed using Conversational Standard Meta Language (CSML) and DialogFlow to offer users an interactive way to learn various aspects of this traditional art form. It is then evaluated through Unit Testing and User Acceptance Testing. Evaluation of the chatbot revealed that it is useful, engaging, and easy to understand. The chatbot is hoped to serve as an educational platform to educate users on historical culture and places related to Shadow Puppet Theatre in effort to boost the cultural tourism sector in Malaysia. In the future, there are opportunities for future enhancements to improve chatbots to be more adaptive and responsive through the use of machine learning algorithms, a broader knowledge base, basic animation features, and multilingual capabilities. With this, the chatbot will be able to provide a more seamless and satisfying user experience, ultimately enhancing its value to tourists and travelers to Malaysia.

Applying mathematics to solve authentic question play important roles in math-ematics education. How to generate high-quality multiple-choice questions that have authentic context is a great challenge. By combining multiple iterations of large language model dialogues with auxiliary external tools and the LangChain framework, this work presents a novel method for automatically generating contextualized multiple-choice mathematics questions. To check the quality of generated questions, 30 questions were randomly selected and 13 human experts were invited to rate these questions. The survey result indicates that the questions produced by the proposed method exhibit a significantly higher quality compared to those generated directly by GPT4, and are already quite comparable in performance to questions that are meticulously crafted by humans across multiple dimensions. Nowadays, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are faced with the crucial challenge of establishing and supervising strategies and policies that are essential for decisions in various areas and at various levels. Within this context, the importance of Business Intelligence (BI) has increased significantly, emerging as an essential tool for analysing and managing data. This BI capability enables HEIs to make more informed choices in line with their global strategies. This research focuses on developing a roadmap for the effective implementation of BI systems in HEIs. Using a Design science Research (DSR) methodology, this work proposes a structured and adaptable roadmap that covers the key factors from the design to the implementation of BI systems in HEIs. This roadmap includes not only a reference architecture for BI systems but also a set of dashboards. The roadmap was validated through a case study at the University of Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), involving exploratory analysis and feedback from experts. This study stands out for its practical and theoretical approach, offering a strategic and practical guide for the adoption of BI systems in HEIs, thus responding to a need identified in the academic literature.

The aim of this paper is to explore the interaction between innovation and competition in internet-based SMEs and to identify key factors influencing innovation. The author investigates how competition impacts industry innovation by analyzing product market dynamics and conducting a comprehensive survey asking industry experts about the challenges that hinder innovation and competition. Additionally, the study reviews various models and case studies to understand how competition drives innovation. The findings suggest that increased competition enhances productivity across multiple industries. The author also provides policy recommendations to support innovation and competition, which are crucial for regulators aiming to boost these elements in small and medium-sized internet-based enterprises. This paper offers valuable insights into the relationship between innovation and competition and proposes actionable policies to promote both.

Learners' emotions are closely related to their learning status. Effective emotion recognition helps educators grasp learners' emotional states in a timely manner, thereby better adjusting teaching strategies and providing personalized guidance. Facial expressions, as the outward expression of inner activities, are an important basis for identifying human emotions. Therefore, facial expression recognition has become a common method for detecting learners' emotional states, especially in online learning. However, the unique facial features of individual learners lead to different appearances of the same expression, which seriously affects the accuracy of facial expression recognition. To this end, we propose a personalized multi-region perception network (PMPN) for adaptively learning individual differences in facial expressions. On the one hand, a multi-scale global perception module (MGPM) is designed to capture feature representations at different scales to adapt to individual unique facial features. On the other hand, an adaptive local attention module (ALAM) is proposed to capture more personalized local features. Experimental results show that the proposed PMPN can accurately identify learners' facial emotions in online learning by considering learners' individual differences, and achieves the most significant recognition results. This method has positive significance for timely grasping the learning status of online learners, improving the online learning experience and realizing personalized education.

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated a swift transition from traditional classrooms to fully online learning, prompting the education system to prioritize the maintenance and enhancement of education quality, particularly at the elementary level. In ensuring students' ability to self-regulate their learning, it is crucial for them to develop independence and responsibility in acquiring new knowledge, as this will impact their educational progress in higher levels. This study proposes the application of process mining, specifically using the web-based system called GoSRL to map students' SRL behaviors to activities within the Moodle online learning platform. While typically employed in business process analytics, process mining can also be utilized for learning analytics, as indicated by recent research. Adopting the Process Mining Project Methodology (PM2), this research investigates and carries out online SRL process model discovery by employing various processes, such as data processing, mining, analysis, and evaluation. Through extraction of records from the Moodle event log, encompassing the online activities of the students, SRL process models are generated. The final outcome of this project is a web-based system design that equips teachers with insights into students' online SRL, thereby facilitating a better understanding of their learning processes and enabling improvements in the quality of teaching and learning systems.

In this paper, we utilize the understanding and generative abilities of large language models (LLMs) to automatically produce customized lesson plans. This addresses the common challenge where conventional plans may not sufficiently meet the distinct requirements of various teaching contexts and student populations. We propose a novel three-stage process, that encompasses the gradual generation of each key component of the lesson plan using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), self-critique by the LLMs, and subsequent refinement. We generate math lesson plans for grades 2 to 5 at the elementary school levels, covering over 80 topics using this method. Three experienced educators were invited to develop comprehensive lesson plan evaluation criteria, which are then used to benchmark our LLM-generated lesson plans against actual lesson plans on the same topics. Three evaluators assess the quality, relevance, and applicability of the plans. The results of the evaluation indicate that our approach can generate high-quality lesson plans. This innovative approach can significantly streamline the process of lesson planning and reduce the burden on educators.

In this paper, we present the results of research aimed at demonstrating that high school students are capable of understanding complex phenomena through the exploration of qualitative simulation models. To achieve this, we adopted the approach of Learning by Modeling using techniques developed in an area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) called Qualitative Reasoning (QR). As a tool for constructing and simulating qualitative models, we used the DynaLearn platform, which diagrammatically displays possible causal relationships between the components of a system and representations of mathematical functions, allowing for the calculation of qualitative values of system properties. Thirty-nine students from the first grade of high school participated in this study, from a federal public school, in Brazil. Data collection took place through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The data showed that qualitative modeling is an important tool for students to think about dynamic systems, as opposed to a one-sided view. Indeed, students understood the structure and functioning of the system, distinguishing the main elements that make up the system, as well as recognizing concepts of System Dynamics (SD), such as feedback mechanisms. The data allow us to consider that the construction and manipulation of qualitative simulation models by students contribute to the understanding of complex systems in the classroom.

In recent years, the XLogoOnline programming platform has gained popularity among novice learners. It integrates the Logo programming language with visual programming, providing a visual interface for learning computing concepts. However, XLogoOnline offers only a limited set of tasks, which are inadequate for learners to master the computing concepts that require sufficient practice. To address this, we introduce XLogoSyn, a novel technique for synthesizing high-quality tasks for varying difficulty levels. Given a reference task, XLogoSyn can generate practice tasks at varying difficulty levels that cater to the varied needs and abilities of different learners. XLogoSyn achieves this by combining symbolic execution and constraint satisfaction techniques. Our expert study demonstrates the effectiveness of XLogoSyn. We have also deployed synthesized practice tasks into XLogoOnline, highlighting the educational benefits of these synthesized practice tasks.

Diplomacy is a 7-player game where players (autonomous agents or human players) compete for territories but need teamwork and eventual betrayal to get an edge over their opponents. Agents in Diplomacy often neglect diplomatic interaction with other players, which is a missed opportunity in terms of creating interesting agents to play against. This paper explores how to create and train an agent that is able to perform diplomatic interactions with other players, such as proposing alliances. Towards this end, we explore recent deep learning techniques and architectures such as Transformers and LSTMs, and propose the Icarus architecture, a deep neural network with an explicit Diplomatic State representation.
