This paper aims to address the issue of the automatic selection of hyperparameters in the deep Q network (DQN) by investigating the influence of eight key hyperparameter indicators on the performance of three different improved DQNs. Our work examines the significance effect, main effect, and interaction effect of those hyperparameters. The goal is to explore how different hyperparameter settings affect the learning efficiency and performance of the improved DQN algorithms to find an effective automatic hyperparameter optimization strategy. The strategy simplifies the DQN models and enhances the efficiency and performance of the algorithms. We first select a set of hyperparameters with significant impacts on algorithm performance. Using an orthogonal experimental design, a multifactor experimental framework was constructed to explore optimal solutions under different combinations of hyperparameter levels. We then evaluated differences in hyperparameter sensitivity among different improved DQN algorithms. Significance analysis and sensitivity analysis were conducted for specific hyperparameters to reveal their main effects in different models and their interaction effects with each other. On the basis of these results, significant hyperparameters and combinations with interaction effects were retained in the model. Additionally, the levels of different hyperparameters were adjusted according to their sensitivity to enhance model stability. The proposed automatic hyperparameter optimization method provides empirical evidence for gaining insight into the relationships between the main effects and interaction effects of hyperparameters, as well as for developing effective hyperparameter optimization methods in reinforcement learning.

Japanese food is attracting worldwide attention not only for its taste and healthiness, but also for being registered in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list as well as attention to the food scene due to popularity of Japanese animation. However, as Japanese people's eating habits become more westernized, there are concerns that the consumption of Japanese food will decline. Studies have reported that increased immigration, economic globalization, and food industry strategies contribute to changing food culture. This study introduced a new factor: an increase in commuting time due to urbanization. We applied a propensity score based on an online survey of 800 workers in their 20s and 60s in Japan. The results revealed that when commuting time exceeds one hour, the consumption of Japanese food in the morning decreases. While Japanese food is healthy, it takes time to prepare;therefore, people might give up on Japanese food if they have less free time. Moreover, the negative effects were more pronounced among those who commuted by car than by train. Notably, this is because driving to work on a daily basis feels more like work than a pleasure. Local food is a unique culture not found in other countries and is a valuable tourism resource. To protect this culture, it is necessary to recognize that the negative effects of urbanization include a decline in food culture.

Investigating the contemporary dynamics of stakeholder relations, this study delves into the escalating pressures faced by truck owner-operators, specifically addressing instances of abusive behavior from buyers (BAB). This paper seeks to elucidate the factors that influence the prevalence and manifestation of buyer abuse across diverse business contexts. This approach not only extends the current academic discourse but also contributes to practical implications for truck owner-operators and policy makers alike. The findings derived from this research, guided by multiple authoritative sources, provide a robust analytical framework for navigating the intricate interplay between stakeholder pressures, contractual arrangements, and other factors (Kim et al., 2022;Johnson, 2021). It is noteworthy that the correlations between Buyer Abusive Behavior (BAB) with and without a contract are based on insights derived from a supplementary analysis within Kim's seminal paper, adding a layer of specificity to the study's methodology. Drawing insights from a sample of 122 owner-operation drivers in Germany, the research systematically investigates both contractual and non-contractual manifestations of BAB through a rigorous methodology using the cluster sampling method and questionnaires. This additional detail enhances the depth and reliability of our analytical approach. Built upon the Korean study model, this research's preliminary results deviate from the first research model, revealing nuanced distinctions inherent to the German truck-owner-operators.

Online social networks use recommender systems to suggest relevant information to their users in the form of personalized timelines. Studying how these systems expose people to information at scale is difficult to do as one cannot assume each user is subject to the same timeline condition and building appropriate evaluation infrastructure is costly. We show that a simple agent-based model where users have fixed preferences affords us the ability to compare different recommender systems (and thus different personalized timelines) in their ability to skew users' perception of their network. Importantly, we show that a simple greedy algorithm that constructs a feed based on network properties reduces such perception biases comparable to a random feed. This underscores the influence network structure has in determining the effectiveness of recommender systems in the social network context and offers a tool for mitigating perception biases through algorithmic feed construction.

The activities performed in an industrial environment are classified as high risk for causing occupational diseases because the activities performed demand high frequencies of execution of movements or require high physical efforts on the part of industrial operators. Currently, risk indexes are assessed only based on observation and questionnaires, which adds subjectivity and lack of reliability to the results. The present study proposes the development and evaluation of a wearable technological device to acquire in situ the biomechanical variables of an operator and that these data serve to determine occupational risk indexes in a more objective way. The hardware architecture of the wearable device implemented consists of four modules: signal acquisition, processing, storage, and data transmission. The eleven (11) monitored variables are six myoelectric signals in the forearm, biceps, and back, two back inclination angles, heart rate, skin electrical conductance signal, and body temperature. To evaluate the performance of the implemented device, the eleven monitored variables were acquired, registered, and visualized during the execution of three test exercises by three users of different physiological parameters, resulting in a set of 99 signals. It was observed congruence between the occurrence of peaks of the signals with the characteristics of the executed exercises, in addition, there is no loss of data between the stages of capture, transmission, recording, and visualization.

The processing of 3D digital objects often requires the computation and analysis of their geometrical features. The normal vectors of the object's surface in particular provide important information used in image processing applications. We present in this paper a new method for the estimation of normal vectors on the surface of a 3D digital object. It is both local and parameter-free. The proposed method involves the study of neighborhoods around points using planar sectors. Experimental evaluations using multigrid approaches show that it is both faster and more robust than state-of-the-art methods in the field, while being of comparable accuracy.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of transformer-based deep learning models in improving credit risk assessment for predicting default probabilities among credit card customers. By employing the CNN-SFTransformer and GRU-Transformer models, this research aims to enhance predictive accuracy and robustness compared to traditional machine learning methods. The models were trained and tested on diverse datasets from Taiwan, Germany, and Australia, representing various credit risk scenarios. The experimental setup included rigorous hyperparameter tuning and utilized key evaluation metrics such as ROC AUC, KS statistic, and G-(mu) over tilde to assess model performance comprehensively. The CNN-SFTransformer model demonstrated superior performance, consistently surpassing baseline models like LSTM, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Random Forest across all datasets. This performance indicates its enhanced capability in differentiating between defaulters and non-defaulters. The GRU-Transformer model also showed promising results, further validating the effectiveness of transformer architectures in this domain. Statistical significance of the results was confirmed through the McNemar test, ensuring the robustness and reliability of the proposed models. This research introduces a novel approach to credit risk management by providing scalable and adaptable models that improve the precision of default predictions, thereby aiding financial institutions in making more informed lending decisions with greater confidence.

This study proposes a mobile battery architecture for rural electrification. Distinguishing itself from traditional grid extensions and off-grid microgrid options, the proposed mobile battery architecture offers advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness, scalability, and rapid deployment. To model the operational process of the proposed mobile battery architecture, a simulation approach is proposed. To improve the affordability of mobile batteries in rural households, the optimal configuration of the mobile battery architecture is studied to minimize the levelized cost of electricity (LCoE). This is achieved by combining the proposed simulation approach with particle swarm optimization. The proposed architecture promises to advance and accelerate rural electrification initiatives.

High-performance computing (HPC) and supercomputing are critical in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, development, and deployment. The extensive use of supercomputers for training complex AI models, which can take from days to months, raises significant concerns about energy consumption and carbon emissions. Traditional methods for estimating the energy consumption of HPC workloads rely on metering reports from computing nodes' power supply units, assuming exclusive use of the entire node. This assumption is increasingly untenable with the advent of next-generation supercomputers that share resources to accelerate workloads, as seen in initiatives like Acceleration as a Service (XaaS) and cloud computing. This paper introduces EfiMon, an agnostic and non-invasive tool designed to extract detailed information about process execution, including instructions executed within specific time windows and CPU and RAM usage. Additionally, it captures comprehensive system metrics, such as power consumption reported by CPU sockets and PSUs. This data enables the development of prediction models to estimate the energy consumption of individual processes without requiring isolation. Using a regression-based mathematical model, our tool is able to estimate single processes' power consumption in isolated and shared resource environments. In shared scenarios, the model demonstrates robust performance, deviating by a maximum of 2.2% on Intel-based machines and 4.4% on AMD systems compared to non-shared cases. This significant accuracy showcases EfiMon's potential for enhancing energy accounting in supercomputing, contributing to more efficient and energy-aware optimisation strategies in HPC.
