Automatic Video Dubbing (AVD) aims to take the given script and generate speech that aligns with lip motion and prosody expressiveness. Current AVD models mainly utilize visual information of the current sentence to enhance the prosody of synthesized speech. However, it is crucial to consider whether the prosody of the generated dubbing aligns with the multimodal context, as the dubbing will be combined with the original context in the final video. This aspect has been overlooked in previous studies. To address this issue, we propose a Multimodal Context-aware video Dubbing model, termed MCDubber, to convert the modeling object from a single sentence to a longer sequence with context information to ensure the consistency of the global context prosody. MCDubber comprises three main components: (1) A context duration aligner aims to learn the context-aware alignment between the text and lip frames;(2) A context prosody predictor seeks to read the global context visual sequence and predict the context-aware global energy and pitch;(3) A context acoustic decoder ultimately predicts the global context mel-spectrogram with the assistance of adjacent ground-truth mel-spectrograms of the target sentence. Through this process, MCDubber fully considers the influence of multimodal context on the prosody expressiveness of the current sentence when dubbing. The extracted mel-spectrogram belonging to the target sentence from the output context mel-spectrograms is the final required dubbing audio. Extensive experiments on the Chem benchmark dataset demonstrate that our MCDubber significantly improves dubbing expressiveness compared to all advanced baselines. Research on the impact of adding scent to modern immersive Virtual Reality (VR) technology to enhance its benefits is still in its infancy. While scent diffusers for Virtual Reality have not yet reached the mass market, there have been different approaches developing such diffusers in the research context. However, adding olfactory scents to VR experiences is still controversial due to mixed results as well as practical obstacles to its implementation. In this paper, the conceptualization and development of the Scent Box, a low-cost system for choreographed scent diffusion for VR experiences, are described, which enables users to explore different scents automatically while in a VR application. Subsequently, lessons learned as well as a practitioners' guide are stated. We describe the functionality of the Scent Box and evaluate its chances and challenges for future VR settings based on our experiences during a feasibility test with N = 22. Hence, the aim of this paper is twofold: a) to describe the development and functionality of a prototype that enables users to explore multiple scents in a VR experience, and b) to provide insights into key lessons learned regarding usability and application of the Scent Box from an experimenter's perspective with instructions and suggestions for further usage.

This paper proposes ESTVocoder, a novel excitation-spectral-transformed neural vocoder within the framework of source-filter theory. The ESTVocoder transforms the amplitude and phase spectra of the excitation into the corresponding speech amplitude and phase spectra using a neural filter whose backbone is ConvNeXt v2 blocks. Finally, the speech waveform is reconstructed through the inverse short-time Fourier transform (ISTFT). The excitation is constructed based on the F0: for voiced segments, it contains full harmonic information, while for unvoiced segments, it is represented by noise. The excitation provides the filter with prior knowledge of the amplitude and phase patterns, expecting to reduce the modeling difficulty compared to conventional neural vocoders. To ensure the fidelity of the synthesized speech, an adversarial training strategy is applied to ESTVocoder with multi-scale and multi-resolution discriminators. Analysis-synthesis and text-to-speech experiments both confirm that our proposed ESTVocoder outperforms or is comparable to other baseline neural vocoders, e.g., HiFi-GAN, SiFi-GAN, and Vocos, in terms of synthesized speech quality, with a reasonable model complexity and generation speed. Additional analysis experiments also demonstrate that the introduced excitation effectively accelerates the model's convergence process, thanks to the speech spectral prior information contained in the excitation.

With the rapid development of large language models, a lot of preliminary work has been done to explore the performance of large language models on different artificial intelligence tasks. Despite this, research on evaluating the translation performance of large language models for Southeast Asian low-resource languages is still relatively scarce. The main reason is the scarcity of public evaluation data for Southeast Asian low-resource languages and large language models that can be directly injected into Southeast Asian low-resource languages for training. First, evaluation data for Southeast Asian low-resource language is extracted based on the publicly available Asian Language Treebank (ALT) corpus. Then, large language models with the capability to understand Southeast Asian low-resource languages are evaluated. Finally, three strategies are employed to construct in-context learning prompts to further enhance the translation performance of the existing large language models. Experimental results on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that large language models have superior contextual learning capabilities and their translation performances can be improved significantly by utilizing high-quality prompts. However, the guidance effect of sub-optimal prompts on the model is inconsistent. The comparative experiment further elucidated that the model temperature parameter exhibits distinct optimal values depending on the scale of text input. The subsequent analysis indicates that a higher degree of similarity between the prompt and the context facilitates the model's ability to generate accurate translation results.

The convergence of digital heritage preservation and modern pedagogy informs the creation of historical characters in virtual settings. We proposed a workflow for creating lifelike, interactive characters that enhance the immersive learning experience, focusing on the medieval St Andrews scene as an illustrative case study. These characters, ranging from well-documented historical figures to generalized medieval citizens, are equipped with historically accurate garments and exhibit realistic expressions. The methodology provides a viable solution for educational and cultural institutions, offering a dynamic approach to experience and engage with history. Further, the paper provides an evaluation and discussion on the impact of these virtual characters in enhancing user engagement and learning experience. Our works underscore the transformative potential of VR in heritage preservation and education, paving the way for more dynamic, engaging, and accessible methods of historical education and cultural exploration.

While digital libraries offer essential benefits for the digital age such as constant availability and accessibility, they often fail in providing a similarly enjoyable browsing experience that benefits engagement and serendipitous exploration inherent to traditional library experiences. In this paper, we propose a virtual reality (VR) library environment that emulates a traditional library promoting an engaging browsing experience that benefits browsing enjoyment and serendipity. The implemented system uses procedural content generation to dynamically generate a library-like environment, wherein each room corresponds to a specific category of the digital library. To assess the usability of the implemented system, we conducted an A/B study comparing the VR environment with the web interface of Project Gutenberg. The results of the study suggest that while the physical demand for using the VR environment is higher, the system can significantly benefit the browsing experience and entice users' curiosity. Furthermore, the study suggests that the system can increase user engagement and users generally felt that using the system was rewarding.

Recently, a state space model (SSM) called Mamba achieves remarkable performance, particularly in vision tasks, due to its faster inference and shows significant potential in handling tasks involving long sequences and autoregressive properties. To explore the efficient Mamba-Net for speech enhancement and alleviate the complexity of the system, we proposed a Mamba-based CMGAN (M-CMGAN) for speech enhancement in the time-frequency domain. In this work, we combined Mamba with a cepstrum frequency block (CFB) and the CMGAN backbone to efficiently save GPU memory and complement spatial information. Three functional blocks (FFB, MMB, and GMB) were introduced to facilitate information exchange. The experiments on the Voice Bank+DEMAND dataset prove that the proposed method reduces one-third of the training time and possibly more. Compared to the reproduced CMGAN, our model improves about 7% more SSNR and 15.4% less required estimated size. We additionally found that MMB used with only one layer of TS-Conformer can release one-third more parameters, it spends less than half the time before but the PESQ only decreased by 0.05. By removing FFB, we obtain around 10% improvement for SSNR and reduced 31.9% total estimation, which is equivalent to saving 39.7% training time, with the PESQ reaching 3.42, outperforming the baseline.

Negotiation is an interaction between two or more parties in which the overall objective is to achieve a better overall outcome than what the parties can accomplish individually. An example of a productive negotiation would be assuming additional responsibilities in exchange for a promotion and salary increase in the near future. Being able to negotiate with agility under a variety of circumstances is a crucial strategic skill for success in personal or professional endeavors. In intercultural situations, these interactions are particularly complex due to the power imbalances brought about by culturally-influenced factors such as gender, race, and socioeconomic standing. Much research has been conducted on the underlying interactions of cross-cultural negotiations, pinpointing similarities and differences in the emotional, tactical, and ethical mental models used by different peoples. Traditional negotiation curricula, often offered in graduate programs, do not readily and holistically address the cultural and identity elements of these interactions, which can put trainees at a disadvantage. Our design-based research study intends to provide initial insights into how immersive media might be leveraged to provide mentoring and practice for improving cross-cultural negotiations among workers and employers.

Recent advancements in wearable Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) devices and optical tracking technologies have significantly expanded the availability of spatiotemporal data in sports analytics. Combined with the common practice of manually recording game event logs, these sources provide unprecedented levels of data that describe in detail what happens during a game. However, the manual collection and tagging of events within a game can be costly and time-consuming, requiring domain experts to repeatedly view and annotate footage to identify discrete events. This study presents a novel method for automatically detecting shooting events using spatiotemporal metrics using GNSS tracking data from a single team to achieve event identification.

The works applying meta-heuristic approaches for Arabic text is limited due to the complex of Arabic parsing and derivation rules, its rich morphology and complex grammatical rules. In this research we propose a new architecture for Arabic documents that applies the Grey Wolf Optimization used as a supervised learning approach by simulating the behavior of Gray Wolves in searching, encircling, and chasing their prey. The proposed method is divided into four phases: The term weighting phase, based on TF-IDF, and the term relevance frequency in documents and classes. The feature selection phase uses the Gray Wolf Algorithm to reduce features and identify relevant features for building the model. The next phase uses the Firey Algorithm to classify documents into several classes using some objective function. In the last phase, the researchers compare the performances of these approaches. The researchers experimented on two collections of reference documents and presented a comparative study on different systems of terms weighting. The experimental results allow us to deduce that our proposed approach based on Grey Wolf with Firefly Algorithm allows us to obtain better results than the other statistical algorithms.
