Building upon our previous work on integrating Cultural Algorithms (CA) with the Policy Gradients with Parameter-Based Exploration (PGPE) algorithm, this study presents an enhanced version of the CA-PGPE algorithm for the MNIST hand-written digit classification task. The improved CA-PGPE incorporates Topographic knowledge source (KS) and refined knowledge source weighting to efficiently navigate the search space and improve convergence speed. By leveraging the belief space consisting of Domain, Situational, History, Topographic, and Normative knowledge sources, the enhanced CA-PGPE algorithm demonstrates improved performance compared to the original PGPE algorithm. The results showcase the potential of integrating cultural knowledge into evolutionary optimization algorithms for tackling complex machine learning tasks. Future research directions include exploring the application of CA-PGPE to evolve InfoGAN network parameters and investigating the implementation of social learning mechanism within the population space.

This paper presents a case study on the IPUMS USA database that contains microdata samples sourced from censuses and surveys, encompassing a wide array of socio-economic variables such as demographics, household composition, education, employment, income, including poverty. Addressing gaps in previous studies, we propose a machine learning approach to develop several predictive models aimed at identifying and quantifying factors influencing poverty. Our experiments focus on three groups of factors: pre-disposing, socio-demographic, and socio-economic. By analysing the sensitivity of model-training variables and employing Variable Effect Characteristics (VEC) analysis to assess variable values, we evaluate the significance of various poverty-related factors.

This paper deals with the characterization of the vibration frequency spectrum of the electric motor in the power train of a hybrid vehicle. This analysis is carried out using a vibration analyzer as a measurement instrument and Minitab software for processing the numerical data obtained. The numerical data collected in each experiment allow an accurate evaluation of the significant differences in power consumption, both in the charging and discharging phases. In order to meet the proposed objectives, we proceed with the characterization of the vibration spectrum of the electric motor of the hybrid vehicle powertrain under controlled conditions, which include both the charging and discharging phases, as well as the operation of the air conditioning system at its maximum capacity. The acquisition of this data is carried out using Dewesoft software. Subsequently, analysis of variance is used to process and filter the collected data. The null hypothesis was accepted, since the results exceeded the significance level set at 0.005, with a confidence interval of 99.5% for normal distribution and 99% for ANOVA analysis.

Medical insurance fraud is a serious challenge in the healthcare industry, and its rapid escalation necessitates improved detection mechanisms. This study examines three machine learning techniques-supervised (Random Forest), unsupervised (K-means clustering), and hybrid learning-for detecting medical insurance fraud across two datasets from some National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS)-approved hospitals in Ghana concerning insurance claims. The performance indicators for these strategies are as follows: Random Forest attained detection accuracies of 91% and 93%, K-means clustering generated 70% and 46%, and the hybrid model produced 34% and 42%, respectively. The growing prevalence of medical insurance fraud highlights the critical need for effective detection methods to protect the integrity of healthcare systems.

Medical imaging plays a crucial role in healthcare, yet access to sufficient datasets, particularly in Africa, remains limited. This article discusses the challenges and opportunities surrounding medical imaging data sharing and governance in Africa. Drawing on existing research works, we explore the significance of medical imaging data, the limitations in availability, and the factors contributing to this challenge. We discuss the importance of data governance policies, the establishment of medical biobanks, and active steps towards the implementation of federated learning techniques to improve data availability and governance. Furthermore, we propose a medical imaging biobank for Africa (AfriBiobank). To enhance data interoperability, integration, and advanced analysis capabilities, we advocate for the incorporation of a semantic layer utilizing technologies such as semantic web standards and query languages, alongside medical data standards such as FHIR and DICOM, as well as adherence to linked data principles within the proposed biobank infrastructure. Furthermore, to support the storage and accessibility of data across multiple African countries, we envisage a hardware framework founded on a distributed architecture, leveraging blockchain technology for enhanced cybersecurity measures, alongside the establishment of a robust data center to ensure the scalability of the biobank's data storage capabilities. By addressing these challenges and implementing innovative solutions, Africa can unlock the full potential of scientific advancements in healthcare.

With the availability of noisy-intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) computers, the field of digital quantum simulation of physics-based systems has garnered significant attention due to the usage of quantum AI algorithms, which directly resemble classical AI techniques. Certain research problems in condensed matter physics and material sciences are well suited to be solved using quantum AI algorithms, such as describing magnetism in quantum systems. The Heisenberg model based on lattice structures is a model used to understand magnetic phenomena in materials, such as interactions, quantum magnetic effects, and numerical studies. In this paper, we show one of the first kinds of experiments for the computation of ground state properties of 1D and 2D Heisenberg lattice models compared to the true value of ground state with Qiskit Nature. We employ the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) that is inspired by the quantum AI technique of variational quantum algorithm (VQA) along with gradient and non-gradient optimizers to obtain results that closely converge towards the true values, showcasing the potential of NISQ algorithms for simulating quantum-mechanical systems.

The goal of Dialogue State Tracking (DST) is to track the user's intents and goals in each conversation round based on a given dialogue history. Existing DST approaches generally predict dialogue states at each turn with semantic information from dialogue history and query slots. However, most of them neglect the dialogue acts which reflect speakers' intents and do not consider the different effects of dialogue acts on categorical slots and non-categorical slots. To leverage the semantic information from dialogue acts, we propose a novel and effective model called IAAD-DST which incorporates both user acts and system acts for state prediction. In particular, to model the interaction between user and system, an interactive acts attention method is developed to extract the interactive information between user acts and system acts within a turn. Besides, an attention divergence loss function is utilized to train model to extract acts feature with high matching degree to provide more precise acts feature for span prediction. Experimental results on the MultiWOZ 2.1 and MultiWOZ 2.2 datasets demonstrate that our model performers well and outperforms baseline models, demonstrating the effectiveness and necessity of incorporating dialogue acts.

This paper presents a novel approach to fine-tuning the Qwen2-1.5B model for Arabic language processing using Quantized Low-Rank Adaptation (QLoRA) on a system with only 4GB VRAM. We detail the process of adapting this large language model to the Arabic domain, using diverse datasets including Bactrian, OpenAssistant, and Wikipedia Arabic corpora. Our methodology involves custom data preprocessing, model configuration, and training optimization techniques such as gradient accumulation and mixed-precision training. We address specific challenges in Arabic NLP, including morphological complexity, dialectal variations, and diacritical mark handling. Experimental results over 10,000 training steps show significant performance improvements, with the final loss converging to 0.1083. We provide comprehensive analysis of GPU memory usage, training dynamics, and model evaluation across various Arabic language tasks, including text classification, question answering, and dialect identification. The fine-tuned model demonstrates robustness to input perturbations and improved handling of Arabic-specific linguistic phenomena. This research contributes to multilingual AI by demonstrating a resource-efficient approach for creating specialized language models, potentially democratizing access to advanced NLP technologies for diverse linguistic communities. Our work paves the way for future research in low-resource language adaptation and efficient fine-tuning of large language models.

In contemporary tourism, online reviews have become crucial in determining consumer decision-making and creating the reputation of hotels. *** and TripAdvisor offer hoteliers opportunities for enhanced visibility and trust, as well as challenges in managing the volatile nature of digital feedback. The immediacy of online reviews demands a strategic approach to reputation management, necessitating an understanding of customer perceptions and the influence of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) on prospective guests' choices. In this context, this study aims to analyse the service quality of hotels in Porto, Portugal, as reflected in TripAdvisor reviews, employing the HOLSERV scale to assess service dimensions. The results corroborate the dimensions proposed in this scale, with the employees' dimension being the most worrying since its overall mean in the ranking was the lowest. On the other hand, the facilities dimension had the highest mean. This study could present a new method of analysing TripAdvisor data, allowing hotel managers to invest in the dimensions where the mean scores are lowest and drawing up strategies to maximise the strengths of the municipality's hotel chain.

The latest trend in auction design involves creating mechanisms that encourage buyers to bring new participants into the auction through their social networks [18]. This presents a unique challenge because buyers are in competition with each other, and effective incentives must be crafted to motivate them to invite peers. Various intriguing mechanisms have been developed for single-item sales, but they all depend on the trustworthiness of the seller or a third party to ensure proper implementation. Additionally, these mechanisms may compromise privacy by exposing the connections of participants. To address these issues, distributed mechanisms that protect privacy are more desirable in practice. In this paper, we introduce the first distributed auction mechanism in social networks that maintains the confidentiality of buyers' connections and achieves full decentralization without relying on a trustworthy intermediary. Furthermore, our mechanism's centralized reduction presents an interesting approach to calculating participants' contributions, offering a distinct improvement over existing methods.
