As the popularity of mobile devices continues to increase, Mobile Crowdsensing (MC), a scalable and efficient data collection method, has received widespread attention. Although lots of effort has been devoted to studying the task assignment or worker recruitment in MC, most of them focus on how to maximize the profit from the perspective of the platform while ignoring rational individual workers' entitlement. We creatively start from the worker's perspective to find the task selection strategy to maximize the worker's profit. In this paper, the problem of unknown task selection is modeled as a Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB), on which three types of additional constraints are considered. The first constraint is the device budget. Workers choose and conduct tasks before it is exhausted. The second constraint is the personal preference regarding the traveling cost. The third constraint is the balance requirement of the MC platform, which has regulations on the tasks' execution rounds. In addition to the dilemma between exploration and exploitation in the classical MAB, we have to face the tradeoff between the reward and all the constraints above. To this end, we first adopt the epoch-style algorithm to reduce the number of switches between any two sensing tasks and further build new algorithms to deal with different constraints. The traveling cost and platform balance are involved in the task index computation as a penalty. We conduct extensive simulations based on real-world traces to verify the significant performance of our proposed algorithms.

Nowadays, malware uses Algorithmically Generated Domains (AGDs) to establish communication with Command and Control (C&C) servers. Dictionary based Domain Generation Algorithm (DGA) selects words from the frequently changed dictionaries to generate AGDs similar to benign domains, which degrades the accuracy of string based detection method. To combat this, we propose a DGA detection method based on DomainGraph and GCN (Graph Convolutional Network) which detects cross-dictionary AGDs based on the association relation between domains instead of lexical features. Starting from the association relation between domains rather than the lexical features of the domain itself, we can detect the unknown AGDs from a known AGD, regardless of the DGA dictionary they use. The proposed method exploits the fact that string association of benign domains is weak, while AGDs' association is strong. DGGCN composes a domain segmentation method, constructs a graph composed of domains (DomainGraph) based on segmentations and adopts GCN to detect AGDs. We conduct the experiments on public datasets under three settings: detecting AGDs generated by familiar dictionaries, unfamiliar dictionaries and confusing dictionaries. The results reveal that DGGCN can detect cross-dictionary AGDs similar to benign domains more accurately and robustly.

In many public transport networks, multiple providers cooperate to offer integrated services and, consequently, provide integrated fare collection. Thus, ticket revenues need to be redistributed so that each provider receives its respective share. Typically, the customers' travel behavior is surveyed and the fares paid are aggregated over certain periods of time, and the revenue is periodically allocated based on this information. To avoid a centralized trusted third party or the exchange of sensitive information between providers, we present an approach that integrates revenue allocation directly into the payment process: The proposed approach is based on payment channel networks and utilizes multi-hop payments to perform revenue allocation. We thereby show how to make use of payment channel networks in this setting as well as the corresponding benefits.

Machine learning approaches to classify malware by family save analysts valuable time during incident response. A key challenge for these approaches is selecting features that are robust against concept drift, which describes the change in malware over time. In this paper, we evaluate a dynamic feature set based on Windows handles (e.g., files, registry keys) for malware family classification. Specifically, we examine the features' vulnerabilities and evaluate their robustness against concept drift. We curated a novel dataset that simulates the manipulations that attackers may invoke on malware samples. We demonstrate improved robustness to concept drift over traditional API call-based features by training machine learning classifiers on malware collected in the wild, and testing the classifiers against samples that underwent manipulations. Further, we investigate time decay due to concept drift using temporally consistent evaluations that do not assume access to newer information. The evaluation shows that our features are robust against malware obfuscation. Furthermore, we empirically demonstrate how malware labeling conventions (malware type or family) can affect results, and make recommendations for dataset construction.

The internet has made everything convenient. Through the world wide web it has almost single-handily transformed the way we live our lives. In doing so, we have become so fuelled by cravings for fast and cheap web connections that we find it difficult to take in the bigger picture. It is widely documented that we need a safer and more trusting internet, but few know or agree on what this actually means. This paper introduces a new body of research that explores whether there needs to be a fundamental shift in how we design and deliver these online spaces. In detail, the authors suggest the need for an internet security aesthetic that opens up the internet (from end to end) to fully support the people that are using it. Going forward, this research highlights that social trust needs to be a key concern in defining the future value of the internet.

This paper presents the idea of a hardware controller for a switching fabric of log2N, where a complicated algorithm is implemented in the Xilinx FPGA Virtex5 chip. This implementation is time-efficient and allows for real control of network traffic for DCN/EON electrical and optical networks. Simulations and human-based analysis can also be performed using this design. It can serve as a calculating engine for SDN/OF networks. Three different boards with two types of Virtex5 FPGA chips from Xilinx were used as the hardware platform. © 2023 IEEE.

The design and operation of any network are complex processes that require the evaluation, utilization and configuration of a variety of usually expensive network devices. Through the use of an emulation platform, network operators are able to examine different scenarios and network parameters and benefit from multi-objective decision mechanisms. These enable the decrease of the network design phase duration and the optimal operation of the network under different well examined conditions. In this work, we present an emulation platform for SDN-enabled 5G integrated Fiber-Wireless networks that provides a transparent view of the SC infrastructure to any SDN-based control plane. We present the overall architecture and design of the emulator, along with the implementation details of its main components. Network devices are described through YANG models and are emulated using containerized processes, configured and managed through the Network Configuration (NETCONF) protocoL Finally, a number of emulation scenarios are described and evaluated, utilizing a joint fiber and wireless resource allocation algorithm that drives the SDN-enabled devices.

Preventing the negative effects caused by misbehaving of nodes or malicious intrusions is an essential task in trust management (TM) for the Internet of Things (IoT). Although many TM models have been proposed and developed, the majority of these approaches assign nodes trust scores by means of a single static evaluation mechanism without taking into consideration the heterogeneity of IoT nodes and network segments, and the challenges posed by context awareness and scalability. Thus, an applicable TM model is needed to overcome these limitations. In this paper, a phase-based dynamic TM (PDTM) model is proposed. This model enables nodes' trust scores to be calculated diversely and dynamically in terms of phases. Finally, numerical results show the effectiveness and the accuracy of the proposed model, and resilience against various types of trust-related attacks (TRA).

Among the efforts to overcome the problem of rapidly saturating RF bands, visible light communication (VLC) is garnering a renewed interest as it can be enabled using commodity LEI) lamps. As indoor spaces are typically illuminated by multiple lamps comprising multiple LEDs each, a natural approach to efficiently utilize the bandwidth of all the LEDs is to use MIMO communication. The state of the art approach to decode MIMO streams is to use channel matrix. Although channel matrix based decoding method (CMDM) works very well in conventional RF technologies, when used in VLC, it suffers from several limitations, such as high sensitivity to environmental conditions, and need for sophisticated receivers. To overcome these limitations, we propose PCDM, a novel parallelogram-clustering based decoding method, which is fundamentally different from CMDM and achieves an order of magnitude lower bit error rate compared to CMDM. We implement and extensively evaluate these two methods using a real VLC MIMO testbed. Our results show that PCDM outperformed CMDM in all scenarios.
