We consider environmental monitoring in a remote area with limited connectivity where motes can join and leave the network arbitrarily, the topology is dynamic, transmission is highly unreliable, power is restricted, data points are sampled in large intervals, the data volume is low, a delay of the reception of data points can be tolerated, and motes have large memory. We propose a new protocol with blind multicasting of data points, blind multicasting of acknowledgements, and caching of data points and acknowledgements. This paper presents the protocol by stepwise refinement with Event-B. The unreliability of transmissions is modelled by finitary fairness. Rodin is used to prove the correctness and an upper bound for the transmission delay. The protocol has been implemented using LoRa for the physical layer.

The rapid advances in generative AI technologies have sparked a debate among researchers on their role in the innovation process, particularly regarding their problem-solving and idea-generation capabilities. While researchers theorise the potential of generative AI in conjunction with TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving), evaluating its current state and understanding its practicality is equally critical. Hence, this paper provides evidence of generative AI's ability to offer solutions in real innovation projects. Our exploratory study compares the results of an actual innovation project in a professional consulting-like setting using traditionally applied modern TRIZ tools against generative AI-assisted results for the same customer-defined problem. The comparison focuses on the solutions' degree of similarity, depth, and breadth. Additionally, our research identifies the advantages, disadvantages, and feasibility of using generative AI in problem-solving and innovation projects. Our findings indicate that combining generative AI and TRIZ produces feasible, cross-domain preliminary conceptual directions with satisfactory scientific substantiation. Lastly, we recommend suitable use cases for innovation managers and TRIZ practitioners, highlighting how the TRIZ-GPT combination can save considerable time exploring preliminary concepts and idea generation during problem-solving.

The relentless pursuit of performance and perfection in manufactured parts drives us to adopt new manufacturing technologies. In the realm of composite parts, additive manufacturing offers highly attractive alternatives in terms of manufacturing costs and possibilities. In this study, we propose to explore this manufacturing process using a Markforged 3D printer, renowned for its expertise in 3D printing composite materials utilizing two extruders. The primary material investigated for the parts is Onyx, which will be reinforced with four types of fibers: carbon, glass, High-Strength High-Temperature (HSHT) glass, and Kevlar fibers. The overall objective is to propose a method for analyzing the results and experiments conducted through a multicriteria optimization approach. The proposed method aims to push the limits of optimization by applying inventive design methods, aiming to overcome the Pareto frontier defined by the experiments. The approach followed in the article is based on TRIZ. Solution concepts have been proposed to enhance the relevance of 3D printing.

The determination of document age is often of paramount importance when questioned documents are examined. In a physical setting, age determination may be based on static and/or dynamic principles. Static principles are based on the introduction dates of ink, paper and other writing materials. Since digital documents are based on artifacts that were often introduced on known dates, static methods to date documents have digital equivalents. Dynamic principles are based on the manner in which documents change over time. Such aging has no equivalent in the digital domain. This chapter introduces two principles that are used as a basis for determining document age. The principles are employed to determine a temporal creation window for a document, in a manner that makes it possible to convey the confidence within the window. When a creation window can be shown to predate or postdate a purported creation time or other critical event, it follows that the document cannot be authentic.

Enhancing robotic system efficiency through lean principles is essential in the dynamic landscape of industrial automation. This study introduces a comprehensive framework combining the "Visionary Pathway Design Tool" (VPDT), simulation-based analysis, and TRIZ methodologies to optimize lean concept integration in robotic systems across various production scenarios. The research addresses the complexities of designing intelligent industrial robotic systems under lean management, focusing on enhancing production process resilience and efficiency The approach integrates VPDT's AI-driven problem definition and Ideal Final Result (IFR) visioning capabilities with simulation models developed in tools like RoboDK. It leverages predictive modeling and scenario planning to envision ideal operational states and uses backcasting to map strategic pathways to achieve these goals. TRIZ principles are applied to resolve inherent contradictions in system design, ensuring innovative solutions aligned with lean management objectives. The simulation phase, using real-world industrial scenarios, and reinforcement learning assesses the impact of lean strategies on production process resilience.

This study introduces the Inventive Creation Score (SCI) Framework to address the gap in quantitatively evaluating the inventiveness of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The SCI Framework combines dimensional analysis and expert validation to quantify key components of creativity-novelty, originality, functionality, and relevance-into a comprehensive evaluation model. Preliminary results indicate the framework effectively differentiates levels of inventiveness in AI-generated outputs, providing insights into optimizing AI for inventive tasks. Future research will refine the SCI Framework through broader empirical testing and feedback from diverse creative fields. The framework aims to guide developers in enhancing AI's creative capabilities and assist practitioners in selecting appropriate AI tools. This research underscores AI's potential as a collaborative partner in creativity, shifting perceptions from AI as an "automaton" to a creative collaborator. The SCI Framework offers a standardized method for evaluating AI's inventiveness, supporting advancements in AI-driven innovation.

The integrity of democratic elections relies heavily on the security of electronic voting systems. Dominion Voting Systems' ImageCast X and Election Systems & Software's ExpressVote System are among the most widely used electronic voting systems in the United States. This chapter describes efforts to verify reported vulnerabilities and identify new vulnerabilities in the two electronic voting systems at the hardware and software levels. The goal is to increase the understanding of voting system security and identify areas for improvement in order to safeguard upcoming elections.

Industry 5.0 is not just a technological evolution;it's not just more intelligence in components, products or equipment. There's a whole philosophy behind it that's a real threat to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises integrating into this approach. It therefore becomes important to identify and analyze the risks attributable to the transition to I5.0. The aim of the paper is to conduct a literature review about the research base on risk management related to the digital transition of SMEs into I5.0 and try to find all the aspects of risk management implementation involved in it. Hence, this literature review aim to adopt innovative approaches and methods to boost the robustness and capability of the managerial systems, technologies, knowledge, etc. available to Small and Medium Enterprises, so that they are ready to counter the various obstacles that could impact the transition process. Through this study, we aim to help deciders to integrate digital transformation by identifying and analyzing the risks and contradictions involved in moving towards I5.0.

Topological models of critical infrastructures such as power distribution networks (grids) enable the determination and validation of properties ranging from feasibility to susceptibility to attacks contingent on the placement of adversaries. Future distribution networks will require large numbers of sensors and actuators to be positioned efficiently. While it is possible to employ the same structures for power networks as information and control networks, this excessive constraint can reduce the robustness of power networks to attacks. This chapter extends previous work by incorporating a separate information layer that allows the incorporation of multiple hierarchical layers. The information layer facilitates the discovery of topological structures in which information and control aspects may still be retained, at least partially, in the presence of partial compromise of a power network structure by exploiting the limited redundancy in the information overlay hierarchy. The extended model also expresses the propagation of the effects of adversarial influence.
