Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 requires unprecedented technological, economic, and sociological changes. With time as a scarce resource, it is crucial to base decisions on relevant facts and information to avoid misdirection. This study aims to help decision makers quickly find relevant information related to companies and organizations in the renewable energy sector. Over the course of this PhD program, we will propose several text-mining methods applied to the renewable energy sector in order to detect technological breakthroughs and new, innovative companies. These techniques include specialized Named Entity Recognition (NER) models, news summarization, and trend analysis of scientific articles. Further steps in this project will contain a TRIZ-based analysis of scientific articles in order to attribute a multi-factor score on the innovative potential of novel technologies.

Already since the 1950s TRIZ shows that patents and the technical contradictions they solve are an important source of inspiration for the development of innovative products. However, TRIZ is a heuristic based on a historic patent analysis and does not make use of the ever-increasing number of latest technological solutions in current patents. Because of the huge number of patents, their length, and, last but not least, their complexity there is a need for modern patent retrieval and patent analysis to go beyond keyword-oriented methods. Recent advances in patent retrieval and analysis mainly focus on dense vectors based on neural AI Transformer language models like Google BERT. They are, for example, used for dense retrieval, question answering or summarization and key concept extraction. A research focus within the methods for patent summarization and key concept extraction are generic inventive concepts respectively TRIZ concepts like problems, solutions, advantage of invention, parameters, and contradictions. Succeeding rule-based approaches, finetuned BERT-like language models for sentence-wise classification represent the state-of-the-art of inventive concept extraction. While they work comparatively well for basic concepts like problems or solutions, contradictions - as a more complex abstraction - remain a challenge for these models. Even PaTRIZ, the latest and complicated multi-stage approach to extract contradictions, delivers only mixed results. This paper goes one step further, as it presents a method to extract TRIZ contradictions from patent texts based on Prompt Engineering using a generative Large Language Model (LLM), namely OpenAI's GPT-4. The existing annotated patent dataset "PaGAN" is used to demonstrate the LLM-capabilities for extracting TRIZ contradictions from the section "State-of-the-Art" of USPTO patents. Cyber attacks on networked automated manufacturing systems can severely impact part quality. In fact, malicious modifications may be introduced at any point during the manufacturing lifecycle. Therefore, it is vital to verify and validate that manufactured parts conform to their designs. This chapter describes a formal, end-to-end framework that verifies and validates the design integrity of manufactured parts by considering all potential points of alteration during precision manufacturing processes. The framework prevents unauthorized changes to computer-aided designs, verifies the correctness of translations from CAD models to Gcode, maintains the integrity of G-code transferred to manufacturing machines, verifies the runtime execution of G-code and part geometry, and considers the contexts of manufacturing machine operations and how manufactured parts could be altered.

When public services are provided to organizations and citizens in the most efficient way possible, favorable conditions are created that lead to increased trust in government and the strengthening of e-government. Investing in and using the capacity to integrate the IT systems that underpin these services is key. In this article, we discuss the notion of shared processes in organizations through the prism of information technology and interoperability. The term 'process integration' refers to the process of redesigning a service by evaluating and optimizing the workflow, pre- and post-service, of each element of the service. In terms of information technology solutions, data is frequently modeled from a single perspective;it is therefore, not possible to exchange and reuse data across multiple applications and processes. Adopting an interoperability framework is necessary to achieve this. This framework will include both theoretical and practical proposals that address all levels of system interconnection, including legal, organizational, semantic, and technical systems. Interoperability refers to the ability of organizations to work together, to exchange information and knowledge, and to use information technologies in the context of the work processes they support when working together. Relevant models for achieving information exchange between information systems in the local and area service provision sector are examined, with a particular focus on the influence, coordination, and contribution of an organization managing local and area road infrastructure.

Currently, AI is mainly used in the TRIZ innovation process to find solutions to well-defined technical problems using TRIZ tools such as Inventive Principles, Standards and, occasionally, Functional Oriented Search (FOS). In practice, however, problem solving is usually the least time-consuming part of the innovation process, with most effort normally spent defining the overall goal of the innovation, identifying and analyzing the initial problem, selecting the best solution from the set of solutions found, and justifying its feasibility. Therefore, AI would be much more useful if it were introduced into these labor-intensive parts of the TRIZ innovation process as well, and undoubtedly AI developers will eventually try to automate the entire innovation process. The objectives of this paper are (1) to assess the current effectiveness of using AI in real TRIZ projects, (2) to predict the most likely sequence of future AI implementation in different parts of the TRIZ innovation process, and (3) to identify related challenges. The objectives are achieved by analyzing the composition and timing of various activities in a typical TRIZ project and applying the Trend of Decreasing Human Involvement to these activities, where a TRIZ project is considered a technological process that transforms an initial, poorly formulated problem into a viable solution/product. These results can be used by AI and TRIZ specialists to create a roadmap for integrating AI and TRIZ to produce a fully automated innovation process that is applicable to technical systems and, potentially, to business systems.

Android software development kits for cloud storage are commonly adopted by the app development community and countless apps from productivity tools to media-sharing platforms currently incorporate the kits. The popularity can be attributed to their ability to offer scalable and reliable cloud storage apps, reducing the need for on-device storage and ensuring data accessibility across devices. However, because the apps tend to store user information in the cloud, there are concerns about security risks and sensitive information leakage. This chapter presents the results of a forensic analysis of 11 major Android cloud software development kits and 120 real-world apps that leverage the kits for data storage. The analysis revealed that 103 apps store user account information, including name, email, date of birth and profile picture, 77 apps access and store user media files and user preferences and settings in the cloud, and 12 apps track the last used times of other installed apps. Android software development kits for cloud storage are of great value in mobile device forensics because they support the extraction of diverse and novel types of evidence, including via uniform resource locators.

Suffering earthquake (EQ) disasters, Japan has developed intensive networks of seismographs and achieved probabilistic long-/medium-term forecasting of big EQs. However, the great disaster EQs of 1995 and 2011 were never predicted. After these two EQs, Seismology Society of Japan and the government decided to avoid investigating the short-term prediction of EQs, considering it impossible. Earthquake Prediction Society of Japan has been challenging this issue since 2014 and has found a light very recently, especially by observing electromagnetic precursor phenomena. The present paper first clarifies the requirements for the observation of precursor phenomena to be useful for a future short-term prediction alert system. Using these criteria, various research presentations are reviewed and three new presentations are found promising. Especially, M. Tsutsui observed the variation of DC electric field deep underground every second with high S/N ratio. The electric field generated by piezoelectric effect is transmitted through the earth's crust without being disturbed by noise on the ground. In the case of EQ (on 2021/5/1, M6.8, 750 km away), the signal showed a drastic (+/-) variation for 46 min. 1.5 h before EQ, a sharp spike at the time of EQ, and a drastic variation for 68 min. 8.5 h after EQ. The data are excellent, showing the correlation with the EQ and containing much information about the EQ rupture process. This method is at the stage of single observation site, overcoming various practical difficulties. The present paper proposes to initiate a collaborative research project within EPSJ with several research groups and observation sites. The project will certainly step up to prove the correlation with EQs, find the method to predict EQs with 3 factors (where, when, and how large), and establish a system for short-term EQ prediction alert. Digital forensics and anti-forensics are essential to security because they provide vital information to institute preventive and reactive measures. Diverse and realistic datasets that reflect anti-forensic measures are needed to validate digital forensic tools and advance digital forensics education and research. However, datasets are increasingly created in a synthetic manner due to privacy and legal constraints. The work described in this chapter contributes to improving the digital forensic process by assessing anti-forensic measures at the filesystem level and providing a means for synthesizing datasets containing anti-forensic artifacts. Specifically, it provides an in-depth analysis of anti-forensic data hiding techniques in the evolving Linux-based B-tree filesystem (Btrfs). Also, it presents a methodology for generating anti-forensic traces at the filesystem level in a post mortem storage device dataset. The methodology links the ForTrace data synthesis framework and fishy anti-forensic data hiding framework. A data synthesis tool is developed for generating anti-forensic data hiding traces for three common filesystems, NTFS, ext4 and Btrfs, and providing essential data synthesis functionality to simulate the expected behavior of the operating system. Additionally, a validation model comprising three complexity levels is presented for assessing the implemented anti-forensic data hiding techniques. Overall, the research provides a powerful approach for generating datasets that reflect anti-forensic artifacts potentially used by attackers.

A typical TRIZ project aimed to develop or improve a system consists of the problem analysis, solution generation and solution substantiation phases. The last phase may vary in approach and scope, ranging from expert assessment to physical prototypes and digital twins. Prototyping activities are often iterative, and the results achieved with one prototype are typically used to develop another. The order of modifications may significantly affect the total cost, time, and effort of prototyping, so adequately managing this process seems to be a vital challenge. This paper proposes a systematic approach to prototyping navigation using TRIZ tools, such as Function Analysis and Value Analysis. If a new solution is to fail eventually during the substantiation, we would prefer it to fail fast and minimize the efforts required to obtain this result. Prototyping a successful solution, on the contrary, may benefit from a systematic approach by postponing the most significant investments to the latest stages when the design seems sufficiently reliable. The paper introduces the notions of prototyping attractiveness, uncertainty zone, and uncertainty time and provides simple guidelines for navigating the prototyping process, which are illustrated by a real-world example.

Privacy concerns have elevated the popularity of vault apps, especially those available in alternative gray market app stores. Designed to conceal media, vault apps often mimic familiar tools such as calculators, serving as decoys. However, while vault apps enhance user privacy, they present significant challenges to digital forensic practitioners. In particular, it is difficult to access encrypted and deleted data in sensitive and contraband documents encountered in digital forensic investigations. This chapter describes research on Aptoide, a significant gray market app store, that builds on previous work on mainstream stores such as the Google Play Store and Apple's iOS App Store. A methodology for gray market vault app identification, extraction and forensic analysis is described. The methodology leverages feature extraction from app descriptions along with machine learning algorithms. The research provides insights into the prevalence of vault apps in gray market app stores and sets the stage for in-depth studies of vault apps downloaded from Android app marketplaces.
