The first steps of artificial intelligence (AI) in Thailand can be traced back to Thai university course material from 1975. Around themid-1980s, the Thai government started to acknowledge the potential of AI technology to become a driver for economic development. Yet, despite the benefits of monitoring AI's domestic developments, such research remains scarce for Thailand. This paper seeks to fill this current literature gap through offering a centralised compilation of information about the unfolding of AI technology in Thailand from its beginnings to this day. Given the scarcity in written forms of publicly available knowledge, we enrich the available literature with three qualitative expert interviews, and we contextualise Thailand's case within the broader Southeast Asian and Asian context. Thailand is regularly overlooked or marginalised when we 'think AI'. However, we will understand that Thailand's role in AI's history is critical if willing to 'thicken' existing descriptions of AI. Reductivist understandings of AI might speak of a technology transfer of the 1970s from the Occident to Thailand and stop there. However, firstly, this obscures China's growing influence over Thailand's AI development since 2015. Secondly, this obscures Thailand's necessarily participative role in AI's development-both within Thailand and abroad-which thus contrasts with the understanding where Thailand would purely be subjected to 'foreign' influence in this technology transfer. Reviewing the history of AI in Thailand allows to add critically missing layers to our currently too partial understanding of the history of AI globally. We also hope to insufflate new air into this musty research avenue to further improve our understanding of Thailand's contemporary sociotechnical unfoldment.

There are many definitions of resilience. Their common core is that it is a response to unexpected or unforeseen changes and disturbances, and a capacity to adapt and respond to these changes. In the literature, many different concepts were identified to accompany resilience and help define or measure a system's resilience. These include flexibility, vulnerability, rapidity and robustness. However, these concepts are sometimes used interchangeably with resilience as there is a lack of clarification among them. In addition, the role of "lessons learnt" and "learning" after a disruption is somehow neglected in existing studies of resilience and system performance. This article aims to position resilience regarding these concepts, taking into account the system's experience after several disturbances. Schematic presentation of resilience-related concepts such as flexibility, rapidity, vulnerability and robustness are proposed. Additionally, an updated definition of resilience in a production system while considering the correlated concepts like vulnerability, robustness, flexibility, rapidity is proposed.

Improving the performance of quantum adder is an important technical challenge with major impact on the implementation of efficient, large-scale quantum computing. Continuing along this research direction, we propose a novel parallel-prefix quantum adder based on Ling expansion. We systematically explored classical structures for parallel-prefix adders assessing their suitability to be realized in quantum domain. Furthermore, Ling adder enforces Logical OR and large fan-out, which require innovative solutions. We addressed these challenges to realize the quantum Ling adder, which results in a T-depth of only O(log n/2). This represents a substantial improvement over the previous quantum adders based on parallel prefix structure, which require O(log n) T-depth. Based on the proposed adder, an efficient quantum modular adder is also demonstrated in this paper, further extending the applicability of our approach. We present extensive theoretical and simulation-based studies to establish our claims.

This study evaluated the material intensity (i.e., the raw material requirements) of growing wind turbines by analyzing the correlation between wind turbine capacity and head weight. The research is based on a compositional evaluation of wind turbines using available literature and publicly available data. To determine the material intensity in relation to capacity, three best fit approximations, namely the average, linear, and power methods were utilized. The results show that as the capacity of wind turbines increases, so does the material intensity. However, further analysis suggests that in the 2-4 MW capacity range, the material intensity remained unchanged and might even decrease, while at larger capacities (6+MW) the material intensity clearly increases. The study emphasizes the importance of defining system boundaries and the need for a larger dataset to both improve accuracy and conduct further classifications. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the material intensity of wind turbines and highlights the potential impact of capacity growth on resource utilization.

InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is one of the most promising decentralized off-chain storage mechanisms, particularly relevant for blockchains, aiming to store the content forever, thus it is crucial to understand its composition, deduce actor intent and investigate its operation and impact. Beyond the network functionality that IPFS offers, assessing the quality of nodes, i.e. analysing and categorising node software and data, is essential to mitigate possible risks and exploitation of IPFS. To this end, in this work we took three daily snapshots of IPFS nodes within a month and analysed each node (by IP address) individually, using threat intelligence feeds. The above enabled us to quantify the number of potentially malicious and/or abused nodes. The outcomes lead us to consider using a filter to isolate malicious nodes from the network, an approach we implemented as a prototype and used for assessment of effectiveness.

Fresh light has been shone on the problem of digital inequality (DI) in recent years due to its expanding complexity and impact on society. An issue with DI research is the need for more reliable instruments to measure and gauge the DI status quo, which is critical for appropriate remedial measures and solutions. DI has several dimensions beyond traditional concepts, such as uneven access to modern technologies, insufficient digital literacy, and limited internet use. Measures of DI often ignore some subtle and hidden elements, including socio-economic status, digital literacy, and skill, giving an imprecise image of the differences among people. This paper utilises existing literature, builds on a theoretical framework developed earlier, and subsequently explores possible survey instruments to measure DI. The paper also emphasises the need for constant improvement of survey tools due to their dynamic nature, influenced by rapid technological changes, to capture the complexities of digital inclusion. The proposed instruments are a starting point that will fill a void and allow researchers in the area to conduct more empirical studies to test and validate the suitability of the instruments to better understand the phenomena for valid comparisons and multiple applications.

The emerging Industry 5.0 paradigm is initiating changes in different aspects of manufacturing businesses as well as in their products and services. Industry 5.0 pillars - human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience - are guiding these changes with the intent to provide a smarter, greener, and digitalized society and market. The human-centric pillar aims to bring people back to the centre of attention by using the advances of Industry 4.0 technologies. Previous studies have shown a tendency for new services development based on Industry 5.0. This paper aims to show the development from product-related services influenced by digital technologies to human-centric product-related services. Data used for this study was obtained through a Digital Servitization Survey in 2023, and the dataset represents the current state of the Republic of Serbia's manufacturing sector. The main findings of this paper show a correlation between human-centricity and digital technologies, human-centricity and product-related services with the use of digital technologies, and their influence on firms' annual turnover.

This paper proposes a method for estimating flood levels using a state-space model in order to figure out the time-series changes at locations without observation devices. The proposed method integrates water level observations and flood analysis simulation results from physical models to estimate accurate flood level and its expansion process in channels. The method uses observation time-series data from observation devices as monitoring data for flood levels, and compensates for the accuracy of conventional methods by correcting a flood analysis simulation with a state-space model to provide a highly accurate estimate of flood levels for the entire urban area. We apply this method to several flood events in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, to investigate its performance.

Situational disabilities and barriers of situational awareness have been shown to be significant potential hinderances to achieving situational awareness, both in the strategical and operational level, affecting first responders as well as volunteers and the general public. In previous research, two educational and awareness-raising disaster-related scenarios highlighting the effects of situational disabilities were presented. However, although being crafted based on input from experts and practitioners, it is important to ensure that these scenarios are realistic in the behaviour of the personas, and in the effects of the situational disabilities described. In addition, to make sure that they are relevant and representative is important, to ensure that they can be used for training and awareness-raising. Therefore, a validation workshop with researchers in ICT for Emergency Management has been organised and performed during a major international Emergency Management conference. Eight researchers took part in the workshop and participated in group discussions to provide their input, and concluded that the scenarios are realistic and relevant, while also proposing suggestions for further improvement.

This paper addresses a job shop scheduling problem in which machines can operate at varying speeds and different energy efficient strategies known as speed scaling and switching on/off are incorporated as well. When a machine runs at high-speed, the amount of time to complete the job shortens but energy consumed by the machine increases. Selection of different speed modes of machines for different jobs (i.e. speed scaling) generates compromise solutions. To save energy further, one must decide whether to shut down the machine during idle periods of consecutive jobs. One option is to turn off the machine whenever the idle period occurs regardless of its duration, which may result in machine breakdown due to excessive opening and closing. Alternatively, a threshold or time limit can be determined below which the machine is kept in standby mode by consuming very little energy. We aim to minimize two conflicting objectives, energy consumption resulting from usage while the machine runs at a particular speed or in standby state and total tardiness emanating from late completions. To this end, we developed a MILP formulation for the problem and Augmented epsilon-Constraint (Augmecon) method is implemented to find pareto optimal solutions. The experimental result reveals that energy consumption and total tardiness objectives are conflicting. Based on payoff table, while the total energy consumed is 25000, total tardiness is 270. When energy consumption increases to 32186, total tardiness reduces to 36. Between the two, Augmented epsilon-Constraint (Augmecon) method provides non-dominated optimal solutions based on 11 grid points.
