A proof-of-concept system for large scale surveillance, detection and alerts information management (SDAIM) is presented in this paper. Various aspects of building the SDAIM software system for large scale critical infrastructure monitoring and decision support are described. The work is currently developped in the large collaborative ZONeSEC project (***). ZONeSEC specializes in the monitoring of so-called Wide-zones. These are large critical infrastructure which require 24/7 monitoring for safety and security. It involves integrated in situ and remote sensing together with large scale stationary sensor networks, that are supported by cross-border communication. In ZONeSEC, the specific deployed sensors around the critical infrastructure may include: Accelerometers that are mounted on perimeter fences;Underground acoustic sensors;Optical, thermal and hyperspectral video cameras or radar systems mounted on strategic areas or on airborne UAVs for mission exploration. The SDAIM system design supports the ingestion of the various types of sensors platform wide-zones' environmental observations and provide large scale distributed data fusion and reasoning with near-real-time messaging and alerts for critical decision-support. On a functional level, the system design is founded on the JDL/DFIG (Joint Directors of Laboratories/Data Fusion information Group) data and information fusion model. Further, it is technologically underpinned by proven Big Data technologies for distributed data storage and processing as well as on-demand access to intelligent data analytics modules. The SDAIM system development will be piloted and alidated at various selected ZONeSEC project wide-zones [1]. These include water, oil and transnational gas pipelines and motorway conveyed in six European countries.

This paper demonstrates an application case for the concept of Data Service design and composition techniques established by the Big-Data Data Service (BD-DS) modelling method realized using the ADOxx meta-modelling platform. In the domain of energy-efficiency assessments of buildings and their operations, the collection of energy related data does not pose a problem anymore as the necessary infrastructure is available in a non-intrusive way, at low installation and operation costs. An issue identified relates to the realization of value-adding services based on these continuous data streams in such distributed, heterogeneous environments. In the context of the ORBEET project, a dynamic, close-to-real-time data access/composition design and exploration framework has been realized. This framework builds upon the concept of Energy Data as a Service combining different sources for a dynamic and enhanced operational rating deployed in 4 different pilot sites in Europe.

This paper presents a case study comparing sea and road transport modes for a Norwegian producer of plastic pipes for the construction industry. The study is based on three cases in which CO(2)e emissions and transport costs were calculated and compared. The main research problem was to analyze whether sea transport is more environmentally friendly than road transport in terms of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and cost-effectiveness. The results from the three analyzed cases show that sea transport is not always the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective mode. We suggest that in order to evaluate the environmental impact and cost-effectiveness of sea transport as an alternative to road transport, such factors as transport distances, load weight/volume ratios, ship load factors, number of port calls, ship sizes, and ship fuel types for each specific case need to be analyzed.

Any successful CAPTCHA design must creatively balance the three competing criteria of usability, scalability, and robustness to achieve widespread deployment in public facing web services. We propose a novel CAPTCHA called EmojiTCHA which utilizes symbolic representations of human emotions in the form of emojis correlated to an image of real humans expressing the same emotion on their face. By leveraging the Project Oxford Emotion API from Microsoft's cognitive services platform, which provides automated detection of human emotion expressions on human faces, we generate a tagged dataset in an automated fashion. Through the use of image warping and distortion techniques, we can significantly increase the robustness of the CAPTCHA against automated attacks, without compromising on usability, as confirmed by our user study.

Currently, much attention is given to the technological opportunities and challenges that "Industry 4.0" entails. However, though the change towards Industry 4.0 is driven by technology, this industrial revolution is not strictly technological. The human aspect of Industry 4.0 is still an emerging field, and must be further researched if modern manufacturers are to reach their full potential. While manufacturers have a high focus on modernizing production processes, the accelerating automation and consequent increasing complexity of tasks is not accompanied by the necessary support for the operator. This results in inefficiency and non-optimal use of workers' capabilities and potential. We argue that operators need technical support systems for increased situation awareness, to be able to efficiently handle an increased pace and complexity of tasks. Our empirical evidence shows that this is not only valid for high-tech manufacturing, but can also be seen in "traditional" manufacturing. We use case studies from three Norwegian manufacturers to illustrate how digitization is yet to reach the operator.

The variety of Internet voting schemes proposed in the literature build their security upon a number of trust assumptions. The criticality of these assumptions depends on the target election setting, particularly the adversary expected within that setting. Given the potential complexity of the assumptions, identifying the most appropriate Internet voting schemes for a specific election setting poses a significant burden to election officials. We address this shortcoming by the construction of an election-dependent security evaluation framework for Internet voting schemes. On the basis of two specification languages, the core of the framework essentially evaluates election-independent security models with regard to expected adversaries and returns satisfaction degrees for security requirements. These satisfaction degrees serve election officials as basis for their decision-making. The framework is evaluated against requirements stemming from measure theory.

We aim to provide online access to unique data on cancer care and cancer epidemiology, including an interactive visualisation of various analytical reports in order to provide relevant information to the general public as well as to experts, such as health care managers, environmental experts and risk assessors. The data viewer has been developed and implemented as a web-based application, making a very time-consuming process of data analysis fully automatic. The presented data contain dozens of validated epidemiological trends in the form of tables, graphs and maps.
