The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a pilot project implementation of PLM solution based on blockchain technology in the ancient grains Italian Industry. After a literature review on previous experience of blockchain technology in the food Industry, a case study analysis has been done to identify the actors along the supply chain of durum wheat for pasta production, as well as to study the main regulations for wheat production. Moreover, possible weaknesses and strengths in the application of the blockchain for the ancient wheat supply chain have been highlighted. Finally, the main evidences of the pilot project are reported and a set of information systems able to manage the product lifecycle have been identified. The paper provides valuable insights to companies that are trying to implement such solution in the food Industry.

Only a few studies discuss the applications of industry 4.0 in the context of end-of-life aircraft treatment. This paper aims to discuss the implications of these technologies in end-of-life aircraft processes. The selected technologies including block-chain, the internet of things, digital twins, big data, artificial intelligence, augmented/virtual reality, collaborative robots are discussed. In addition, the criteria to evaluate the different technologies and a conceptual model for selecting the core technologies will be presented.

As part of its mission to reach out to and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds, the University of Pretoria established a programme called the Pre-University Academy (PUA) on its Mamelodi Campus. The PUA hosts courses to complement learners' school-based learning and further develop their skills so that they can prepare effectively for their tertiary studies. This paper describes how the learners of the PUA utilised the photovoice process, which involves photography, writing and group discussions, to identify the value the programme holds for them. The research used photovoice as a visual data collection method and analysed the qualitative data using reflective thematic analysis. This approach aims to identify patterns of meaning in a dataset and address questions related to peoples' experiences, views and perceptions. The learners articulated that the PUA held great value for them, both in the present and for their future prospects. They recognised the importance of being part of an academic environment, as the community college setting grants them benefits in terms of both academic and social development.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment is an emerging problem, particularly impacting low and middle income countries. The One Health (OH) approach currently being promoted by global and national agencies, while highlighting importance of studying the interconnections between humans, animals and environment, tend to downplay the environment. Further, this paper argues that the concrete methods and data required to design and develop digital environmental AMR monitoring systems within the context of governmental systems in LMICs are significantly under studied. This paper makes a small effort towards highlighting the problem of environmental AMR in LMIC contexts, and more particularly related to the design and development of a digital monitoring system. The paper argues IS and ICT4D research has an important role to play in this effort, particularly in bringing in principles of systems thinking to the design and development processes.

Integrating university, industry, and government can represent innovation development in a university environment based on the concepts of the Triple Helix. Thus, there needs to be more research that considers university innovation ecosystems, indicating an opportunity to improve their understanding and functioning. This article proposes a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to map the actions, actors, concepts and functioning of the innovation ecosystem that involves the university. The first step of the SLR was the search for articles from 2017 to 2022 containing the keywords: disruptive innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation, resulting in 27 selected articles. The research identified the roles and recommendations of each actor in the ecosystem and ways to develop it sustainably, focusing on actions to improve its current innovation strategy, contributing to the academic literature by providing initiatives in innovation ecosystems and synthesis of related concepts.

Knowledge management and intellectual capital are essential factors in a company's success. An intrinsic element of knowledge management is knowledge exchange. Obtaining knowledge outside of a firm's boundaries, also known as open innovation, is necessary. Although these topics are well described in the literature, they seem less developed in a manufacturing context. The current economic context is favourable to the firm's merger and acquisition. This paper aims to understand how knowledge exchange can be supported in a multi-division manufacturing SME. During three months, thanks to a prototype platform, part of the knowledge exchanges and collaboration were tracked and evaluated in a Quebec aerospace multi-division manufacturing firm. Through this period, knowledge exchanges' quantity, success and collaboration symmetry were monitored. Semi-structured interviews were conducted at the end of the experimentation with the members to gather the foundations and limitations of the prototype platform. This one proposes a supportive organizational structure and incentives which enhance knowledge exchanges among involved SMEs. This prototype platform approach should provide the foundations of more structured knowledge exchanges.

Mixed reality technologies and digital twins have been widely applied when the objective is to create immersive virtual environments, especially when it comes to the industrial context. Industries are increasingly looking for ways to update the new 4.0 reality and, with the use of scenario's virtualization technologies, it is possible, for example, to train employees or people responsible for the development and creation of new solutions to digitalization in production systems for stakeholders. In this context, the article presents a project for the application of mixed reality and digital twin to create an immersive virtual environment for training employees at a company focused on the electromechanical area, more specifically on the maintenance of machines and equipment for the electrical substations at the headquarters located in the city of Curitiba - Brazil. The application's environment, in the diary activities, cannot be accessed with a certain frequency due to risks and the impossibility of stopping the manufacturing process. Thus, the work proposed a method to create immersive training sceneries based on Microsoft Hololens technologies in order to prepare the employees to be able to act on maintenance after virtual training.

This publication aims to delve into the concept of human-centric manufacturing systems (or human-centered) and the essential skills needed for their successful implementation and promotion. Through a combination of expert focus group and stakeholders' workshop, this research strives to develop a comprehensive understanding of the key elements that define a human-centric manufacturing (HCM) system and the crucial role played by human factors. By analyzing the outcomes of these workshops, the authors intend to uncover valuable insights regarding the skills and knowledge required for designing, developing, and implementing HCM systems. Main concepts and skills have been discovered across three main pillars: Empowerment, Inclusivity and Safety. This exploration will also encompass a deep comprehension of the role of the various functional units within an organization, emphasizing the significance of collaboration and communication amongst all stakeholders involved within a HCM context. The findings from this study make valuable contributions to the formulation of strategies aimed at facilitating the transition from an Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 manufacturing system and the emerging Society 5.0.

The integration of smart home IoT devices into households promises to improve users' living experiences and increase convenience, but raises manifold privacy and security concerns. This study conducts 11 interviews with expert users in Germany, employing qualitative content analysis to unveil prevalent privacy and security concerns. The objective is to survey smart home usage behavior and user knowledge to identify the need for solutions that educate users on potential threats, and aid them in securing their smart home. The findings illuminate the evolving dynamics of user perspectives within the rapidly advancing smart home landscape of IoT devices and the need for open-source solutions that provide recommendations and data flow control in smart home devices. Although knowledgeable in general, it can be observed that even expert users lack awareness of information flows in smart homes, calling for more education and the creation of software and hardware-based solutions to mitigate threats in the future.
