In order to better facilitate the need for continuous business process improvement, the application of DevOps principles has been proposed. In particular, the AB-BPM methodology applies AB testing and reinforcement learning to increase the speed and quality of improvement efforts. In this paper, we provide an industry perspective on this approach, assessing requirements, risks, opportunities, and more aspects of the AB-BPM methodology and supporting tools. Our qualitative analysis combines grounded theory with a Delphi study, including semi-structured interviews and multiple follow-up surveys with a panel of ten business process management experts. The main findings indicate a need for human control during reinforcement learning-driven experiments, the importance of aligning the methodology culturally and organizationally with the respective setting, and the necessity of an integrated process execution platform.

The paper submits a proposition of a new data analysis tool (named PDCM - Probability Distribution generating and Clustering Maps) constructed in the form of an extended neural map and dedicated to a variety of tasks, such as specific clustering, visualization, prediction (together with its possible visual analysis and justification) and generation of approximated Bayesian a posteriori probability density distribution for dependent variable. Basic theoretical aspects concerning the structure and training process of the proposed model have been presented. Also, research involving application of the PDCM method for real estate market data (Boston dataset) has been shown together with promising research results and conclusions.

Data-driven algorithms are becoming more prevalent in our everyday lives, automating various decisions that can impact access to opportunities and resources. For this reason, much research concerns the ethical and social consequences of algorithms. Algorithmic digital marketing represents a key means by which people encounter and/or are affected by algorithms in daily life. While previous work has considered the perceptions of consumers in this realm, little work to date has considered those of marketing professionals. The current work presents an exploratory study of marketers, aiming to uncover their general views on the use of algorithmic marketing, as well as their own practices and if/how they address the ethical concerns surrounding algorithmic marketing. The findings underscore the need for ethical regulations and guidelines to be defined for fair practices in the context of algorithmic digital marketing.

Process mining techniques use event logs to discover process models, check conformance, and aid business analysts in improving business processes. A proper interplay between the complexity of discovered process models and the expertise of human interpreters, such as stakeholders, domain experts, and process analysts, is key for the success of process mining efforts. However, current practice often suffers from a misalignment between aligning the technical or business background of a human subject and the results obtained through process mining discovery techniques. This results in either overly complex or overly simplistic discovered process models for particular users. In this study, we propose and validate a methodology for aligning users of process models with different abstractions of discovered process models. We present two case studies to illustrate the usability of our six-phase methodology and demonstrate its potential. We hope that these findings will encourage systematic approaches for better alignment between users' willingness to employ process models and process model abstraction.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing technology that connects everyday objects to the internet, allowing them to send and receive data. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way that craftsmen work, by providing them with access to real-time information and automation capabilities. For instance, devices that are equipped with sensors can transmit data about their usage and performance, providing craftsmen with valuable insights into their work. Moreover, IoT can also enable craftsmen to remotely monitor and control their tools and machines, increasing efficiency and productivity. In addition, IoT can help craftspeople to better manage their inventory and supply chain. By attaching sensors to raw materials and finished products, craftspeople can track the movement and status of their goods in real-time, improving the accuracy of their forecasts and reducing the risk of stock-outs. Thus, adopting the IoT technology has the potential to greatly enhance the capabilities of the skilled crafts, allowing them to work more efficiently and effectively, and to better serve the needs of their customers. The aim of the IoT4H project is to make IoT technology usable for craftsmen. For that, we develop a platform that helps craft businesses in exploring and implementing IoT solutions. The platform will help craftsmen to identify suitable IoT use cases and business models for their trades, provide an overview of required components, and allow them to set up use cases without technical expertise. It will also collect and manage data and allow craft businesses to share new use cases with other platform users. So far, the project has already identified many different IoT use cases for the skilled crafts sector, which are presented in this paper. In addition, initial platform architecture considerations have also been made based on these use cases and are presented in this paper. Event logs capture information about executed activities. However, they do not capture information about activities that could have been performed, i.e., activities that were enabled during a process. Event logs containing information on enabled activities are called translucent event logs. Although it is possible to extract translucent event logs from a running information system, such logs are rarely stored. To increase the availability of translucent event logs, we propose two techniques. The first technique records the system's states as snapshots. These snapshots are stored and linked to events. A user labels patterns that describe parts of the system's state. By matching patterns with snapshots, we can add information about enabled activities. We apply our technique in a small setting to demonstrate its applicability. The second technique uses a process model to add information concerning enabled activities to an existing traditional event log. Data containing enabled activities are valuable for process discovery. Using the information on enabled activities, we can discover more correct models.

Digital innovation and digital initiatives are generally recognized and considered to be the driving forces behind firm survival and success in the market. This is not the case in the public sector, where digital initiatives have suffered not only from a lack of research trying to explain them but also from a major lack of recognition of their importance. The government's eagerness to introduce more digital initiatives for better e-government plays an important role in advancing the country. Digital initiatives in several governments are being overlooked, even though these days, private companies are competing to provide their customers with the best products and services. In this study, important attributes and sub-attributes of digital initiatives by governments are identified so that we can get a clearer picture of the government's digital initiatives (GDIs). The attributes and sub-attributes are extracted and combined with the new, proposed attributes to make our all-encompassing framework (with the passage of time, maybe more attributes and sub-attributes can be added to the list). The identified attributes are either directly or indirectly related to projects under the government's digital initiatives, which include open data for more transparent and accountable e-governance. The developed framework has been applied to Greece and Pakistan;the authors of the underlying study belong to Pakistan and Greece, and one more reason behind this is to measure the difference between the developing and developed countries' GDIs and to evaluate the governments' digital initiatives (GDIs) with respect to each attribute and sub-attribute. This research will help people understand the problems that governments face with GDIs and maybe provide recommendations for further development initiatives.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that deteriorates the central human nervous system, which can potentially cause significant brain, spinal cord and visual problems. Based on recent studies, MS has affected 3 million people with a prevalence rate of 3.9%. To this end, a wealth of information about MS has been produced, which makes MS the ideal candidate for applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for early diagnosis through a machine learning (ML) exploration framework. Accordingly, the current work studies to what extent the nervous system has been degenerated by analyzing data from a recently published dataset. Such data has been derived by motor evoked potential (MEP) measurements conducted in each patient hospital visit. Therefore, five machine learning models have been trained with cross-validation, in order to obtain the best one with good generalization properties. We compare the accuracy of all models utilizing various metrics (maximum obtained accuracy is similar to 96% with XGBoost model). Furthermore, we use sensitivity analysis in order to explain the dependence of the target variable on the input parameters statistically.

business Process Automation has been gaining increasing importance in the management of companies and organizations since it reduces the time needed to carry out routine tasks, freeing employees for other more creative and exciting things. The use of process automation seems to be a growing trend in the business's operational restructuring, combined with digital transformation. It can be applied in the most varied business areas. Organizations from any sector of activity can also adopt it. Given these benefits, the granted success in transforming business processes would be expected. However, 30 to 50% of automation initiatives with Robotic Process Automation technology fail. In this work, a set of guidelines will be proposed that will constitute, after validation, a framework capable of guiding organizations, with a focus on SMEs, in the procedure of automating their processes, thus obtaining the maximum return of this transformation.

Due the societal change of experiencing remote working, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many corporations are facing the need for an extensive new remote work policy. Thus, corporations and management need to position themselves towards new ways of working and therefore towards the new standard of remote working in order to develop their long-term remote work policy. For this purpose, this study identifies criteria and consequences, as well as advantages and challenges which need to be considered during the policy-making procedure to incorporate a remote working environment. By conducting eleven semi-structured interviews with managers following a maximum variation sampling approach, valuable insights are gained, which deepen the understanding for a management's perspective. Regardless of the industry, this study most notably identifies that managers benefit from similar advantages and are confronted by identical challenges trying to establish remote working policies. Illustrating the different policies and investigating remote working in respect to today's highly relevant impact on the employer's attractiveness, present the key contribution to existing literature. This research provides extensive considerations and recommendations for the management how to deal with remote working.
